i feel a touch of anger in this video, and i like it.
It's like with everything, there was a reason why you started, and it's usually an emotional one. You feel drawn to something. And then at some point everything becomes unnecessarily complicated and takes away the fun.
Thanks for remembering. The mental attitude is the essential thing for me.

@@michaldante9797 hello Michael, thank you for your nice words. You're welcome. And I have to confess that I always have been jealous about the name "Dante". To me it's sounds magical, arestocratical and kind of esoteric (in the original meaning of esoteric).

    • @michaldante9797
      @michaldante9797 2 роки тому

Ah ! What a pleasure to read such kind words openly spoken by a “stranger” for me ! Thank you and you’re welcome too ! My english is not very good pardon if something isn’t “good”. To be honest, my real name is Michal but I like the form “Michael” closer to the origin more :-D and Dante isn’t mine in reality. I totaly agree with your taste in that name. I like it for many reasons but the most close to my heart is because of Dante Alighieri. I was very touched as a teenager at highschool when I first learned about his life, love and his work Divine Comedy. Hard to explain but I believe you can sense by heart what I mean. Funny enough I never read more then 1/10 of that book ! Someday I want. But my issue when it comes to books is to understand deeply what author wrote (meaning), not just read without the understanding. Maybe I’m trying to hard at this and I’ll give it a shot without some “scholar works” made for this book. For example I’m reading Don Quijote by Miguel y Saavedra but I have special edition with notes not just for many historical facts (because it´s very rich book on knowledge) but this special edition also has a scholar introduction about author and his work and it´s terrific altogether ! Because it´s hard to be open minded and not forget that there is some meaning in such a books and it´s not just for entertainment. Sometimes it´s the only “weapon” of literally talented people to fight against the ruler/s of the country, or a tool for people to help them etc. What a stretch and offtopic by me ! But I tried be spontaneous.

Tremendous topic. It does not matter the way as long as it is to be something good. Since we are talking about archery, all this applies to life itself. When we do something like a job or serve others, the way doesn't matter, just do it with respect and without criticizing others. They are nice to share this discipline with others for everyone to learn and make good friends. Thanks for this video. Armin. 👊🥰🙏☕

I'm watched 2/3 if the length of the video and I already have to leave a comment... Because at the "why" question, I remembered the feeling of being 11 years old, and building bows and arrows from bamboo, and shooting at trees even if cars could pass over inside our condominium... after 20 years of an erratic career as a musician and now stable IT developer, now I can finally have the money to buy aliexpress bows and shoot with wood arrows with synthetic feathers, and I can say the amazing feeling and excitment of shooting is absolutely the same... and so I know for sure WHY am I shooting. Thanks again, Armin, for your amazing videos!

I'm now in my 40th year of shooting Archery. What I love about archery is the fact that we live in a world today in which someone like yourself who is also in love with the same sport as I , is able to share and teach me things that I never knew. I am grateful being able to learn styles I never considered. Never once did I think I would shoot a bow with my thumb and the arrow on the "wrong" side. Archery is as diverse as all of our cultures. Learning how people shoot all over the world and through history is boundless. I love shooting! It doesn't matter what stick and string you choose. If it has wheels, mechanical release, ILF limbs or simply a piece of Ray skin-it's all still Archery! Thanks for all you do!! -From the cold Rocky Mountains USA!!

Love this. For me the why is growth. As I approach "middle age" it is important to keep stretching my mind and body to keep them sharp. Archery allows for both. Learning to shoot ambidextrously stretches my mind by forcing it to grow and adapt out of the comfort zone of the "dominant eye" by learning to focus on the other eye and switch dominant eye. It reminds me to keep my muscles balanced. Learning to shoot many styles of draw further stretches my mind and forces me to focus on every aspect of the shot and thus not focus on anything else in my life and the world, forces me to be absolutely present in the moment. All of this has helped awaken my creativity and reminded me how I like to make things with my hands as I try to make and adapt my gear to allow me to shoot in all these styles without spending a fortune on gloves, rings, tabs, etc. Perhaps one day I will even try my hand at making my own twin bow. Then there is the potential to hunt again that drew me in the first place.
There are layers to my love of archery which is another thing I love about archery. That such a simple thing as a stick and a string can offer so much is amazing.

I was about 5 or 6 years old, I had bamboo canes, I tied some string at each end, with no brace height to speak of, made an out of the other cane, with no fetching, and proceeded to shoot that stick all over the field at the back of my home, Why? At first because it was fun pretending to be an American Indian, followed by the satisfaction of hitting the things I was aiming with greater and greater consistency, now I do it because it keeps me sane, and gives me a sense satisfaction and purpose, the what and the how don't matter, Why does, it may be different for every single one of us, but that's the one that counts🙏

Ryugu is correct. This is a life lesson! It transcends to our work and the stresses that come from it. When work stress drives you down, you must reflect on the Why you are doing that work. The what and the how can accelerate the stress, but it is the why that will re-centre your passion for the work you do (or the sport you once enjoyed etc). It took me a lifetime to work this out... but I now work in my chosen field because I enjoy it, not because I have to. Armin, you have trumped in a single short lesson what thousands of authors have tried to capture in decades of complicated books and lectures! Salute!

Archery for me has been less about improving my aim and my skills, and more about meditation and connecting with nature while understanding my self. From managing my anxiety and learning that it's ok to let go. To understanding the value of a little bit of discipline. I dont practice half as often as I would like. but every time I do I feel like I learn something new and it's made it into a very spiritual experience for me.

I absolutely agree, i used to own an old bow when I was younger, eventually it broke and instead of getting a new one I kind of gave it up. 10 years later I wanted to shoot again and started shopping for a new bow and as a wood worker I figured I could make one cheaper. Now ive made all sorts of bows for all sorts of different styles of shooting and I enjoy them all, I also just bought my first bow, a manchu bow (out of my bow making skills) and have decided that my interest are in traditional war archery. It's all about having fun and learning. And you can do this with a stick you find in the woods or a cheap $100 bow.

Technique was instinctive Mediterranean draw with bow held at 45deg. I spent an hour on a bus each way twice a week to go to the only indoor shooting venue available in the middle of winter in Canada. The equipment was terrible, the arrows were lobbed into the target, but I still hit targets! Amazing!!! Now I have a collection of very nice bows including take down traditional style Turkish and Assyrian bows and I almost never shoot anymore, even when I had a range in my own backyard! Sad state of affairs. Now I have moved to a condominium and I have no place to shoot. So, I may end up driving an hour or more to another city to be able to shoot indoors.

As long as you have fun with it you always win . ...I've heard Lars say many times..." it's not the bow or the method, but the archer " .

I always thought of archery like a sort of meditiation. There are a few steps you have to perform, calm yourself, concentrate on each one and if everything is done right you perform the "right shot". Doesn't really matter to me if it's a center shot or not, as long as it's repetable. It's desired of course, but the shot itself is more important than where it hits the target.
Often overlooked by my colleagues on a shooting range with all the olympic/hunter/compound bows. I shoot Segye Korean with wooden arrows (thanks for the review btw). This is also very healthy to distinguish what drives you. For them it's the performance and scores, absolutely different approach from mine. It's only natural to be different, just respect each others ;)

True, is very easy to fall in technicalities trap and forget that is a hobby, supposed to be fun... is ok to work a little but never forget why you started doing it.

Absolutely true but it is so easy for archery to become a trial rather than a pleasure. When you stop enjoying shooting then stop shooting, as what is wrong is invariably what's going on in your head. Come back when you are feeling relaxed and looking forward to the challenge and it will be a pleasure again.

Almost a follow-up to your sage explanation of stick and string, but not quite there.... Why, I remember playing as a child.. cowboys and Indians... Cap guns and the bow with arrow that had sucker's... I loved it then as time passed the real crunch WHY am I missing.... The start of the slide and the process of growing up....kids have the why in the bag, we as adults over complicate the why......
I look forward to your sage follow-up to your earlier video....?

Idk, the *what* does matter to me to some degree. Let me explain: i don't remember what the first bow was that i shot. It might have been some selfmade stick or some kid's bow that only was a straight piece of non-tillered bendy material with a plastic handle. Something like that. Might have been fun for a few minutes but not enough to capture me. But i do remember the first "real" bow i shot, i believe i was about 14 years old and my father bought me a used 45lbs english longbow made from hickory and lemonwood. I instantly fell in love with that bow and with archery and now 20 years later i still have tremendous fun shooting that very same bow. I might not ever have gotten into archery if all i had was that crap i mentioned in the beginning :)

I like the why. For me I do love archery just like I love the Lord and I to won’t to share them both with everyone.
    👍🏼🏹🇺🇸. God Bless.
