Just picked this game up on sale. Huge LotR fan and I love minis, so it was a win. I appreciated the heads up on gameplay. I might rework it if I play it with friends.
Sometimes GW makes a board game, sometimes they release miniatures in a box with some rules tossed in that people will buy for the miniatures, this feels like the later. ;) But hey, Boromir is in Journeys in Middle-Earth now with the latest expansion and that game is really really awesome. :)
As far as GW Board Games go (with actual boards and no measurement, not too long as well) I would say Blitz Bowl, Underworlds, and Aeronautica Imperialis are all great games that they produce. The LOTR SBG is also a great system but there is a lot to get into with it. Blood Bowl is also the greatest game that they produce.
im deciding to buy this for the minis. i was going to buy the fellowship just to paint for a project, this game is only £9 more with the goblins and cave troll and its another boxed game to the collection :) ive also watch a few playthroughs and i think ive only seen the fellowship win once! definitely favours the goblin player
That's a shame, would of loved a quick 2 player tactical war of the ring. I like rolling dice and seeing how that goes but man that's a miss. Makes me wish my brother would publish his game.
Even though this was a very meh game, still really appreciate your reviews Roy. Well done my friend!

Even their other boardgames are usually kind of crappy on the rules and mechanics.
This was obviously a fun way of getting the Fellowship, some Moria goblins, and a Cave Troll for the MESBG.

I heard a rumor that Alex Radcliffe from gameboard co, would like to challenge to a game of War of the Rings. lol, I would love to see that.
great review

Sounds like a typical GW non-wargame: good minis, little-to-no actual game.
