THE SPIRIT LIFT is a cute spooky card game blending deckbuilding rogue-likes with story-driven indie horror. As teenagers from the '90s, players explore an ever-changing retro 3D hotel with the help of a magic elevator. Be Kind, Rewind, and Seek the Truth Lost Behind...
The Let's Try series is a way to preview / review games in order to get my first impressions through the first moments of gameplay.

It reminds me a little of Cobalt Core, with how you pick three members and they combined make your deck.
The interaction with the thorny vine was because you had the correct character type
I adore the art style for the characters. Cool looking cast. Would want to see more of this
2:28 jumpscare warning
That almost gave me a heart attack! Thanks for the warning. /s
😂
definitely keeping in eye out for this and would love to see more (maybe a small series, check out how much random gen plays a part/how run variety looks like?)
Would love to see a series of this on release whenever that is.
It feels like night of the full moon game that I love to play.
Damn this game is great! I hope there will be a series once it's out
Big same!
I suspect tripod is bad because the other 2 cards are insanely good plus the extra draw. Its like a pseudo downside.
My guess was that Tripod would be one of those "upgrade me and I'll shine". Neat game with a great style so far.
Boss music was stellar! looks a bti shallow for my tastes, but hope it does well.
Some interesting ideas with the 3d map and horror theming. The enemy art does feel very out of place though. It's in a completely different style from the character art and the general look of the game.
Well dressed wolf-man?! Well, don't mind if I do~
This was fun. I hope you revisit it later.
Real neat game, but enemy art is not really up to par. I mean, it would be ok if characters were, like, 10 year olds, and they fought some catooney enemies, but they are not. I assume it's just placeholders.
Music is just great.
UI style also is pretty stellar (except energy indicator, it looks like it's mana, not energy)
Yup! It's very jarring seeing the art from the characters against their enemies
Cool game I hope I see more of it
Tripod is a great anti dodge tech
It looks pretty interesting
Love this
Were there any roguelike deckbuilders before Spire, and they just weren’t very good or popular? StS is what got me into the genre so I don’t know what the it looked like before Spire.
Or is it actually the case that the first entry into the genre happened to be virtually flawless and directly influenced so many others? Seems highly unlikely, so I’m curious!
Not really. Guild of dungeoneering sort of. Not unless you count the 1997 microprose Magic: the Gathering.
Dream Quest came out before StS - there were a variety of classes, with different abilities. Most of the cards were shared, but some classes had unique cards to obtain/purchase. Still play it every once in a while!
Interesting...
You should do the owls voice you do when reading the poems. I cant remember the name of the game but how many owls could you have voiced?
ring of pain?
@@innerdarkness1988 Thats the one!
Hey reto, demo for wizard of legend 2 is out, just in case it’s on your radar :)
nice
The bottle seemed pretty useful with being 0 cost for 3 damage?
Yeah, but it takes up a draw slot to not do very much and didn't explain what card it gets replaced by on use, I'd rather get back to the cards that have more impact faster.
@@Retromation The game needs to give the player more information. For example, is Broken Bottle a Smash weapon? If it is, then the card would be affected by Grip Strengthener. You get a free 3 damage attack (Bottle), and I *assume* that it goes back into your hand as a 1 energy, 10 damage attack (Broken Bottle)--which would make it super-great. Is the card then exhausted afterwards because is like a consumable, or does it remain in your discard pile as Broken Bottle?
Game seems are alright, needs balancing and just in general a bit more time in the oven to add some extra flair. The gameplay seems like something I would get bored of rather quick, for its lack of depth from what we've seen so far.
I like it, but there's nothing 90s Horror about it. This is more like a current day interpretation of early 2000s Horror.
Yep, just relaying what the devs labeled it
The music is really catchy!
