Hi, Helen. Very helpful tutorial on a number of fronts: creating new shapes, using the pathfinder, shading, gradients, patterns. Phew! So much goes into all this!
Amazed I forgot about all the patterns that come with Illustrator. I've just been focusing on creating my own patters but love to take advantage of what ships with Illustrator too. One request I'd have for Adobe that would make my work a little quicker would be to give us the ability to click on the first item in a list of items we want to group and to shift click the last item and have everything selected instead of forcing us to shift click each item on the list as you had to do at one point in this video.

Thank you so much for your tutorials, they are really great and I enjoy them a lot. It is well and clearly explained, although I'm not a native English speaker. I Am learning so much as a graphic design student.
I hope it's not rude from me to ask you for a waffle/cone illustrator drew with shades tutorial or tips how to provide more dimension to it, so it looks more professional...(I need it for one of my projects for my studies to draw an ice cream).
