The defendant's honour and integrity were cruelly ridiculed by this woman. Moreover, the prevailing ethos of the past 40 years has given undue leniency to aggressive, disrespectful females to humiliate men mercilessly and to have the gall to make homophobic and transphobic comments without censure. Regardless of prospect of success, the DPP must, in the public interest appeal the leniency of the sentence. Like you, I am a father to daughters and unconscionable that there would be no punishment here and the fact he is in the army should count against him even moreso, not act as mitigation. It also highlights the inconsistency of sentencing across a range of crimes, something needs to change and it is up to the nation to express its outrage, which in this case, it seems to be doing. My utmost respect to Natasha for not staying quiet after the sentence. Well done Terry, not the first time that you have called out how badly women are treated.

He tried to blame the young girl and if the guards did not have the evidence I believe he would have continued to lie. I don't understand how any judge could have so much concern for his job when the girl lost her job. I don't understand how anyone in the army could come to court and speak for him. He should have lost his job. Any other man in any other job would have lost their job. There is no justice in Ireland. Hopefully the DPP will appeal this sentence. Because he could have still pled not guilty, just to be a dick and force his victim to take the stand to testify against him. So, in that context, it makes sense that he gets some credit for it. However, the Judge gave it far too much weight and acted like he had pled guilty right from the start. Also the fact he initially tried to blame the victim should more than evaporate away any of that credit. It was shitty judgement and it needs to be appealed.

The beating stopped for a few moments after my water bottle rolled out of my hand when I was going unconscious on the ground and they asked me to hold the water bottle again so they could continue to beat me in the face.
They didn’t know me and I didn’t know them. They did permanent damage to my eye socket. I now have a plastic sheet replacing orbital flow bone. I Suffered from double vision for a long time. I still suffer double vision when lying down.
Went to court and I was treated like the criminal. I had to do all the talking. It was humiliating and awful experience. They didn’t have to say a word or have any interrogation.
After everything they got a fully suspended 3 year sentence. I lived with the physical and mental affects and they were walking around the same village as me with zero consequences for what they did.
