Yeah I plan on doing this, right now I just have a 24x36 Royal Oak grill box. I do a lot of indirect cooking, so making a basket seems like a good idea to keep coal from moving. I do plan on moving to a off set smoker. Thanks for the idea.
Just completed mine! Only cost was the metal at $21.34. I got the same size 3/4 x 24 x 24, 18 gauge metal . Finished basket size is 12 x 10 x 6. Only thing I did different is after folding the metal, I tied it with some wire. Thanks for the tips, saved myself $37! I'm ready to smoke!
Awesome man! Hope this helped you through the process! I've been wanting to make another vid with step by step instructions but just haven't had the time...happy smokin'
Paul C.........You are the one that's sucking on my comment tool. Get a life and keep out of other people's affairs. I was not commenting to you. You are a meddler. STFU idiot.
+A REDTAIL If you actually compare the size of the Weber Charcoal basket to even this homemade one, you'll notice the Weber ones are considerably smaller. The Weber dimensions are 16"x5.2"x4.8". Using two, you'd have 16"x5.2"x9.6", for a volume of just under 800 cu. in *assuming* they were rectangular, which they're not. They're trapazoidal so that they fit in the Weber Kettle, making their volume approximately 525 cu in. From a 24"x24" piece of expanded steel, you can make a 12"x12"x6" charcoal basket, giving you a volume of 864 cu in. MUCH more volume for charcoal for an extra $5 and 10 minutes of work. From this video, his charcoal basket was 12"x8"x6", giving him 576 cu in, still more than 2 Weber baskets could give him. EDIT: Correction, the site I got the measurements from is wrong. Actual pictures of the baskets show them to be 14"x5"x3", yielding a total volume of about 270 cu in, not 525 cu. in. I think the previous dimensions were for *BOTH*, not just one. So yeah, the Weber Charcoal baskets are just too damn small.

EXCELLENT Bro! I'm making my today.
Nice
Good video..
I could have bought an entire sheet of that same 3/4 expanded metal 4' x 8' for $36.00 + tax. and made 5 or 6 of them and sold the rest of them.
Nice, I didn't have access to a supply house at the time so I worked with what I had
