  • Another Central Line vid from 1994 showing the 62 Stock at West Ruislip and Newbury Park in their twilight years. There's a view of the cab controls (a friend driver allowed me to film!) and a close up of the guards panel & car interior on 1552. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Before I moved to Bristol in September 1991, I was born in Ealing in 1986. While living the first 5 years in London, I remember travelling on the 1962 Stock on the Central Line from Hanger Lane and Ealing Broadway and they were a true classic train legend to travel on until when coming to London by train from Bristol in the later years between 1992 and 1994 and then 1995 when the 1992 Stock was running on the Central Line, it was a complete transition in the end. I've moved back to London back in September 2002 22 years ago and my life is finally back to the full potential as it is today.

My old central line 1962 stock. The first time I sat on these babies in 1984 to 1994, born in Walthamstow and moved to Leyton, I could not remember sitting on the Victoria line, plus she was automatic, but I got used to these babies (1962 stock) when I was small, I miss them

Fairlop was my local station and I used the 62 stock to go to school in Wanstead and then to Camden Town (Northern Line via Bank) when I started my first job as an apprentice electrician with the LEB in 1971.

Seeing the 1992 Stock alongside the 1962 Stock, you can tell just how different the eras of the different trains' production periods were.

Yes, the 62's were well built, the 92's of somewhat of poorer quality. LUL are even saying that they will be replaced before the 72 MkII's on the Bakerloo as they are in such poor shape!

Thank you for (a) having the foresight and equipment to capture these as well as you did some 25 years ago, and (b) uploading the footage now. I like the toot from your new friend as they returned from Hainault at 9:05 ! The sound of these trains is just wonderful. As one who has driven the A60/62 stock, I can imagine that these were more fun than the modern stuff, but perhaps not very comfortable in high summer! Also nice to see Newbury Park before its siding was altered, and the old signalling complete with illuminated 'A'.

Thanks for your comments, i was very desperate in the 80s & 90s to capture all the trains & buses i grew up with before they were withdrawn. I have worked the 62's briefly along with 59s. They were a tube version of the A60s (see my upload here ua-cam.com/video/zztpn-9a8sM/v-deo.html, of A60's & 59's running side by side at Finchley Road/Willesden Green) and good, solid trains to drive & work as guard on. Unlike the 72MkII's which were c**p!

Honestly wish I was around then to ride these beautiful trains. But that's why I appreciate these types of videos, so thank you as well for posting them all! Also Richard, I don't suppose you were the driver from Geoff Marshall's A stock documentary? I was just watching it before and noticed the same name. Apologies if it seems like a bit of a random thing to say.

Brilliant video, Soi! There's some great shots in here! I never managed to bag a ride on that unit! Most of the ones I got a ride on were ones on the Northern Line, from my notes, I seem to have had 1751 crop up quite a bit for me (which I believe was built as a 3 car unit)
That's a fantastic shot at 9:35 of the two units side by side! The 1992TS sounds somewhat different to me now than what it did in the mid to late 1990s. Also notice on the latter, the non "bullet-proof glass" windows (I think it's right, it is on the D78 stock), I think these were changed upon refurbishment due to leaking.

Thank you. The driver saw me filming at West Ruislip and let me video in the cab. When it was time to go he let me in for a ride all the way to Newbury Park (it helped i was BR footplate staff!) so this is one unit i've had for haulage!!! And yes i believe LUL had a lot of trouble with the 92s in general and hear they may be replaced before the 72s on the Bakerloo, especially as the 72s have/are being refurbished...yet again!!!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus They are having some sort of motor change in the 2020s I believe, not long before they are withdrawn! It's pretty much guaranteed that the 1992TS is to be replaced ahead of the 1972TS. What this is essentially saying is either the 1992TS is an awful plasticky wreck that hardly works and is a poor design, or the 1972TS is a legendary train, that is unrivalled in it's long life. (the 1972TS was great, but the refurbishments have ruined them, unrefurbished MkI's were great!)

The 92's are shite that's for sure. But 72MkII's rebuilt or not are are damn site worse! I worked the rancid, freezing cold piles of shite as guard & driver for years on 2 lines and hate them with a passion! Poorly built and badly (if ever) maintained they were the worse train i have ever worked on-either Underground stock or mainline BR stock!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus It's quite interesting really, the difference in quality between the Northern Line's MkI's and the Jubilee (later Bakerloo's) MkII's. Some how, the MkI's seemed to be in generally better condition, plus I seem to prefer the front styling of the MkI, plus it had a much more subtle interior than the deep blue MkII one. Though really it is all down to the refurbishments, the MkII has recieved loads over time. The MkI's only recieved one small overhaul, getting a new moquette and some other equipment that escapes me.
I have always disliked the 1992 stock, and I will despise of them even after their withdrawal. The MkII 72TS atleast reminds me of the good old days with the MkI's on the Northern, so i'll half like them still.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus

I worked them as a guard and then driver. They were, and indeed still are poorly built and maintained piles of sh*te!They pretty much all carry full time minor faults that Stonebridge never seem to be able to fix and the faults & failure proceedures that crews are taught in training go out the window once on the line as the instruction is to push out in event of a failure rather than go fault finding as the equipment is shot to hell! Rancid, horrible trains to work on!!!!

When i first rode to Ongar as a child it was all 62's, before the Cravens unit took over. Although if it failed then a 62 was used. Hello. I like your videos. Can you tell we why those old trains make that noise when they are stationary, please ? I was scared because of that noise when I was little. Sorry if my english is not perfect in spite of my family name. Best wishes.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  19 днів тому

I'm not sure what noise you mean?.... The electrical whining noise is the Motor Generator, which converts the 630V DC power to lower power AC for lights and other electrical circuits. If you mean a loud banging noise from some cars, that's the compressors running, keeping the air reservoirs full. These work automatically, if the air pressure drops, the compressors kick in and restore the air levels to a pre set level then stop again......

The reason why in this video-clip the 1962 TS trains look worse for wear is mostly because when any given stock's end is in sight, maintenance work ceases on the trains nearing their end of life.
Viewers of this video will have noticed by the sound of the 1962 TS trains in motion that they were a lot heavier than digital Underground trains introduced during the 90's which are lighter than the 1962 TS
