    Yess Kevin. This is some great content. I feel like a lot of men are worried about Finasteride and not taking the leap because of these points, especially men experiencing hair loss in their early 20s. People really underestimate the other side of the argument, i.e. what are the consequences of going bald on fertility??
    Once you go bald, your effective fertility drops by 80-90% as you become massively undesirable to the opposite sex. What are you going to do with your unaltered testosterone when no woman will come close to you in the first place?? Life is all about tradeoffs.
    I went on a date with an 8/10 because I still have my hair and self-confidence, thanks to Finasteride. That wouldn't happen if I was bald, even if my testosterone levels were through the roof.

      i still dont understand why are people thinking that AGA is some silly condition. I see these comments often. People please understand that AGA is very aggresive and very complicated condition that is why we only have 2 meds that work for it. Many have tried to develop something and they have failed because this is very hard condition to solve. I dont want to compare it with Cancer but in aggresivness they are up there. Ofc you wont die from it witch is good, but you might end with psychological problems.

    It lowers fertility by 30%, but hopefully when you stop taking it, fertility recovers to your base levels. I also noticed that my voice lost it’s weight and is higher. I was a low baritone before, but now a high baritone. The voice overall sounds younger. Like I’m a teenager. The recent adverse effect is that I started to come faster after 2.5 years of taking it. Would probably start investigating during the next year. This last symptom is the most alarming to me.

    The worst way to evaluate finasteride is thinking that taking it means being impotent and not taking it mean accepting being bald, like no aim for balance, doesn't have to be 1mg, but 0.25 to 0.5mg to 1mg, 3 to 5 times a week.

    I love the content as always man !! I just wanted to hear your perspective on how finasteride increases total testosterone, but actually lowers free testosterone and how this could be associated with the side effects of finasteride in a small percentage of users (not the trash hormone DHT).

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  3 роки тому +7

      Thanks bruh. The majority of studies I have seen show that finasteride increases serum testosterone, including both bound and unbound free testosterone, the latter of which only makes up 1 to 2 percent of total testosterone in the body anyways.
      I don't think that is a casual factor in finasteride's side effects, especially since side effects are already so rare to begin with.
      The mechanism isn't known but I think the most plausible theory is the increase in total testosterone may cause aromatization into estrogen for some people.

    Hey Kevin! I would like to know, is it (IYO) possible to quit Minoxidil at all? Some hair transplant doctors recommend using it post-surger for 1yr. They do state that your hair gets addicted, however, they also mention with careful measures you can gradually discontinue use all together. A few people claim they've done it, I'm aware you have said you still feel it's necessary to use it yourself. I had the idea that maybe if you switched from 5℅ to 2.5℅ and then slowly tried to wean yourself off, gradually using it infrequently, could it work or am being too ambitious? Unfortunately, I'm in the club of people who used minoxidil before finasteride and although my hair loss has completely stopped, I still have to use minoxdil and hate it. If I suddenly stop outright, I lose gains 😤
    Much obliged for your time, Thanks!

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  3 роки тому +2

      If you got really good results with minoxidil then I wouldn't quit it. I know people have claimed to have dropped it successfully with minimal loss but I have seen too many cases of people trying to drop minoxidil only to lose all of their progress on it.
      Minoxidil's mechanism is different from other conventional hair loss treatments so while your hair doesn't get "addicted" to it strictly speaking any gains you make on it are contingent on it for continued use.
      Personally I have found it is wholly viable to reduce your dosage and frequency. I use it just once per day for instance but I cannot drop it. Even using as many as 5 other treatments in its place I still lose ground dropping minoxidil.

I hoped they checked her as well in the study, and Kevin probably skipped that part. If they didn’t then that would be pretty damned biased. In fact some women at 37 wouldn’t even be able to have any children.
