If you are concerned about any compatibility, go with the Surface Pro 9. It uses Intel and will literally run every single program that you can think of. For the new Surface Pro 11, you will have to wait a couple months before existing programs are compiled and optimized to run on ARM and some firmware updates to have everything up to par. Remember, at the end of the day if you want to run everything from all games to hardcore work nothing will beat Intel or AMD.
I like how your review is more grounded in everyday applications, rather than just analyzing benchmarks and making presumptuous proclamations based off various tables. Most of us care more about how the device performs for each of our own intended uses for it, and you did a great job over-viewing how it can accomplish that on a real-world basis. If it can handle intensive painting apps with only mild heating, I'm sure it can handle by ancient scribbles for a 2-hr chemistry lecture. I'm using a base model surface 7, and simply leaving OneNote open with sheet music displayed is enough to drain the battery by an alarming amount. I by no means (as a struggling student in debt) can afford the new surface, but I would absolutely upgrade to it thanks to the info from your review. Subbed.

Yes…finally looks like a good option to replace the iPad Pro M1 + Magic Keyboard + Apple Pencil that I sold months ago that was just so tedious to get anything done on (office/productivity-wise). But now to decide between the OLED version or LCD. Leaning more toward the cheaper LCD with X Plus chip after seeing comparison videos where people are not overwhelmingly preferring the OLED? Added to that is that the X Plus chip isn’t noticeably slower than the X Elite (from what people and benchmarks are saying). And that will also save me hundreds that I can put into keyboard and pen. Which btw, agree on the somewhat cheaper feel of the Surface pen compared to Apple Pencil…but the Surface pen is just so much easier to use. Never liked the tapping to switch tools on Apple Pencil and never seemed to work as it should, but pressing a physical button or flipping around to erase just works.
My previous Surface 9 was LCD and it was still a very impressive device when it comes to the picture quality. I’m still trying to get my hands on the Flex keyboard which honestly shouldn’t be so expensive

Thanks for this video, exactly what I was looking for as I am torn between buying an iPad Pro M4 or the Surface Pro 11. I read on some Reddit forums and reviews that the OLED display on the Surface Pro 11 has some fringing/raster effect where the text doesn't look sharp especially on white backgrounds. Did you see such an effect on your Surface Pro 11? And how would you rate the colour accuracy on the Surface Pro 11 compared to the iPad Pro M4? And one last question on top 😀 Does the Surface Pro 11 have a 10-bit display panel?
The text is very clear to me, but the white and light grey backgrounds at higher brightness levels definitely look dithered. Rather than a GPU issue, I understand this as the screen door effect from the pen/touch sensors being somewhat visible. It isn’t in a square pattern, however. But it’s very noticeable if reading black text on a light background in a brighter environment. The oled screen is otherwise great for media consumption. I couldn’t notice this on the iPad oled screen.
@@Kinetic79 Thanks a lot for this. I know that this colour fringing/rastering effect will definitely bother me. And thanks for also sharing that the iPad Pro OLED screen doesn't have that issue. Appreciate it.
@@rramnel I feel like your use case is more important to consider than screen quality…but then again, if the Surface Pro or iPad is a secondary device to a proper PC or Mac then maybe it doesn’t matter as much. If you are a content creator or some other artfully inclined person, maybe iPad makes sense. But if you need to be able to easily manage files (drag and drop between apps and windows) and other office type tasks, the Surface, I think, is the better choice. I had both a Surface Pro X and an iPad Pro M1 and sold them both - neither were the experience I was looking for. But now that these new Snapdragon chips have arrived, I’ll be buying a Surface Pro again and skipping iPad until iPad OS improves immensely.
Enjoyable as always. Thank you. I picked up the base model with the X Plus and very happy (like you I had the pro 9 before) and I also have left the charger in the box topping up the battery passively through monitors / docks. Reusing an old surface pro keyboard also saved money 👍🏾
@@ThisIsE it’s really good (performance - thank you). Hi, appreciate the video, and I do have a question if you don’t mind. How did you connect your gaming mouse to the surface pro? Did you use an adapter from USB-A to USB-C? Also, could you do the same with an external gaming keyboard? I am looking to buy a surface pro, and I’m just wondering if the keyboard and mouse that I already have will connect to it when I am at home (I do also have a monitor to connect too, which may be an issue due to the amount of ports). My plan is to use the Xbox Series S that I have for any gaming that I would like to do, and the surface pro for college work at home, both being hooked up to my monitor and using the same keyboard and mouse, if possible. Any advice would be great, thanks!

I am developing a linux distro with desktop and touch mode. As linux mobile already support major linux desktop apps. Combining them will result in an amazing os better than ipad os and windows for touch.
for anyone want to buy the new surface pro : 1. the oled model have grainy screen (when reading text like pdf with white background, but it isn't noticable in dark mode. the base model also has it, but it's way less noticeable like u will barely notice it. 2. same igpu 3. performance wise, is unnoticable, unless you do a benchmark test.
I keep seeing that windows pro 11 cannot have google drive on it... is there a work around. I need a new surface pro for nursing school but all my documents are through google drive.
Keep an eye on ebay.. I just got the oled model new at half the retail price, I think people aren't buying them and the prices are crashing, at least it seems like that.
I have a MBP with M1 plus Ipad Pro M2 + Iphone and AW Ultra , I love the Apple's ecosystem but for work , my kind of work ( cybersecurity) , I'm looking for a real OS Desktop in the same format of Ipad , so I'm looking for a surface pro . It's convenient to buy a 11th gen or maybe try with a Surface 10, 9 or 8 to save money ? I willl use it as full pc desktop without limitations of MacOs , like the impossibility to create live usb with windows os or linux distro , or to emulate kali linux in Virtual Box instead of UTM on Macbook .... I'll wait for some suggestions :) Thanks
Thanks very much....subscribed to all :). Maybe it is important to mention that the new flex keayboard of the surface tab can be run wireless. In comparison to tie iPad I have to say that the Surface is the way better working tool.
Love your videos man, such quality! I am finally sold on the new version of the surface with these new snapdragon processors. I will wait until version two or three to make sure all the apps I want to use are fully support natively not in emulations. I will hang on to my M1 iPad Air as my travel computer until then but excited for what the future holds for the surface.
Are these winds of change? I can't understand why there is no 15" alternative; When the keyboard is disconnected from the Tablet it should always work; The Keyboard looks horrible and the prices are primitive; There should be a Dual Screen Option, with the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i. Your video is fantastic. Thanks
You are noticing the winds very accurately. Although I am a hard core Mac user, I find the Surface a very pleasurable device to use for everything else aside from video editing.
Top video as always! I was curious to see what you think about it since I returned mine. The combo MacBook Pro 14 and iPad Pro 11 as a secondary display for me is priceless. Since you’re using the S24 ultra you should try the combo Galaxy book edge 4 with snap elite, new earbuds etc etc ( I have one too and I’m curious to try it out too).
I'm still using a surface pro 9 because I need an intel processor for Archicad and Autocad (architecture programs), not sure if they work with this arm processor!
Think I read that autocad works but not looking for for autodesk 3ds max, hopefully autodesk will release arm updates but they're a pretty greedy company and I doubt the market share is enough for them to bother
I love mine because it goldilocks... If i need/want to draw I can... If I want to use touch to browse around or navigate a program, I can... So while not everything is touch optimised, I don't mind because I do like using it with keyboard...and Microsoft typecover are my favourite for most satisfying key travel and typing experience...however, Microsoft is still Microsoft and very bifurcated in their finery. The 'new outlook' has no touch swipe like the Mail which in my opinion is more cleaner and perfect UI yet being replaced this year. Next the new keyboard flex battery and charge has major issues. I was going to sell of my previous typecover for Surface pro 9, but I had to snap it on for use because flex just dropped charge even while connected the whole time. It seems like firmware issue than hardware one and perhaps some firmware update might fix it. But who knows when (or if) that happens despite the eye-watering price that these companies (both apple and Microsoft) charge for keyboards. Ipad pro definitely does better at whatever it does... but it does so little (mostly media consumption, some browsing, emailing and drawing or editing) that surface pro 11 is sensible and useful choice anytime any day. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Just found this video and have subscribed to your channel. I like your dry humour and your presenting style! I think you've had a similar experience with previous Surfaces as me; the previous ARM version just wasn't ready, nor powerful. This time round I'm really happy with my experience on the Pro 11 with the Elite chip (and OLED screen) and I'm going to keep it long term. It's a full PC in tablet form, great for my use-case (everything the iPad, with MacOS, should be). I even get to play GTA5 on it. The (expensive) Bluetooth 'Flex' keyboard with Pen is excellent also. Very happy with the battery life and has been a pretty seamless experience so far. Just missing a couple of apps for me: Apple TV and Apple Music - the irony being they're already on ARM chips on the Apple ecosystem!
This is a miss if you have a non-native app. My CAD program was a big failure running on their imulated software, and there is no motivation for them to make a native app since Intel and AMD still have the desktop PC market cornered. Apple's success came because their entire platform shifted, I don't see that happening on Windows.
When it comes to battery, you only mentioned the capacity but not which one is better? It might be close regarding capacity, but everybody knows M series processor are more efficient and last longer. This seems like a biased review towards the Surface Pro. Not saying the Surface is a bad product. What would make it better is a lower TPD and to be fanless. Maybe next year...
I have the SP11 LCD 16gb RAM/512 GB storage in blue. When I watch UA-cam, whether I use Chrome or Edge, the videos in full-screen start fine then they start moving downwards. I've never had that issue on an Intel SP. I watch a ton of UA-cam. I'm thinking about returning the SP11.
It seems that the return rate for devices with Snapdragon X Elite is unusually high. Some people blame the GPU, although it may be able to be fixed by software. The worst case scenario is that the chip is defective. Personally, I'd wait to see how they compare to upcoming chips from Intel and AMD before purchasing.
I returned mine. If you use them for a while these negatives begin to make you regret moving from a more established platform. I watched ArtisRight and he fully tested the base X Plus and concluded they are not recommended for photography or videography due to performance degradation. That may be the case with your YT problem as well.
Honestly I saw your surface pro 9 review last year and still bought it, now im selling it used to buy this new 11 😅, the battery life and the way it heats over just watching normal media is just unbearable
Actually the pro 9 was the best of them until now. Because it has full-fledged windows while windows on arm is just a bad joke. It can‘t even run acrobat reader for god‘s sake.
Hi pal, Vahid from Hamburg is here! Regarding the year of starting your UA-cam channel, 2016, and the quality of your videos, you should have more than one million subscribers by now. But you don’t, and that’s strange. Why? It seems something is missing in your channel, which are: 1. Several videos about the same topic each year (like tech setups, accessories, etc.). One video per year will be more reliable and followable. 2. Too much focus on Apple, which makes your reviews about other brands seem untrustworthy or unreliable. 3. ... Anyway, your channel is awesome for me and your style of video making is unique. Good luck 🌺🌺😉
Hi. Is it worth buying pro 9 still ? Or elite is better? And 16 or 32 gb ram? Is it enough 16 and have no lags on chrome and powerpoint or 32 will be needed?
What does the Surface Pro 11 have? Touch screen, pen, it's a laptop and table at the same time, it has Windows 11, it has Copilot. What does the Macbook have? Just a drawn apple. lol Surface is the future!!!
How does the chip compare to a Macbook Pro in terms of capabilities/efficiency? To me it seems more like this would be a MBA/iPad Pro combo competitor but I'm curious if you think it competes with the MBP too

I see the dithering effect from time to time, but if it wasn't for all the online drama, I wouldn't think twice about it. (personal take of course)
Enjoyable as always. Thank you.
I picked up the base model with the X Plus and very happy (like you I had the pro 9 before) and I also have left the charger in the box topping up the battery passively through monitors / docks.
Reusing an old surface pro keyboard also saved money 👍🏾
How's the performance on the Plus?
@@ThisIsE it’s really good (performance - thank you).
Whilst I’m sure my workload is not as demanding as yours - it chews up through my hundreds of thousands of data rows in excel like a champ and handles all my data software well (Power BI). That’s pretty much the limit of my powers. But it does it faster than what I’ve used before and battery is great. I have seen some computers still slowdown over near million row spreadsheets / it can happen 😄.
No regrets at all. Will upgrade the hard drive myself.
please what is the artist or musical group that you play in the video at around 8 minutes. the name and title of the music
Does it come with pre installed free MS Office ?
One of the best rewiews i've seen so far.
Thank you 😊
Can I download capcut desktop on this ?
Amazing high quality video. Subscribed !
Much appreciated!
It's really a well-explained video, I enjoyed. ❤❤
It is a pity though that most reviewers get the Oled version, I'd like the base version in review
I got one .. oh boy !
This is best device ever for me right now
Better than my iPad Pro M2
Simply running UE5.4.2 in 60 fps (viewport optimization)
Any (almost) prototype game i already can create
I have nothing to say about it )
It's magestic ❤
Congratulations 🥳
bro what, this device runs UE5😲? I thought theres no way Epic support windows arm on windows, did you compile your engine on your own? if you did how much time did you spent to compile this moster? I'm now very intriged
Can I use surface pro as a second screen to run discord or other apps
I seem to remember trying to do this on an older surface to use it as a drawing pad connected to a bigger pc and couldn't get it working
Is that Adobe Photoshop were you using 12:26
How much space does wondows takes ?
Good question. I need to check
That track🔥💯
😊
Is that scan not available on surface pro 9? I have the 6 looking to but the 9 for $700 today would you recommend the 11 for 1k vs new 9 for $700
Ps I can 10 times a day min
Thanks for the video
My pleasure 😊
I am developing a linux distro with desktop and touch mode. As linux mobile already support major linux desktop apps. Combining them will result in an amazing os better than ipad os and windows for touch.
That's sounds very interesting! Good luck with the development.
for anyone want to buy the new surface pro :
1. the oled model have grainy screen (when reading text like pdf with white background, but it isn't noticable in dark mode. the base model also has it, but it's way less noticeable like u will barely notice it.
2. same igpu
3. performance wise, is unnoticable, unless you do a benchmark test.
Performance wise compared to?
I keep seeing that windows pro 11 cannot have google drive on it... is there a work around. I need a new surface pro for nursing school but all my documents are through google drive.
Why not use it through google chrome?
Do you guys think I should get the Pro 11? Right now I have the surface pro 7.
You’ll definitely notice a difference
Does anyone know if I can use Power Bi smoothly with surf pro11?
interesting because back when i had a surface pro 3 it did not have those issues that the surface pro 9 has
Different times, demands, and OSs
The fact that there's a tablet that i can use for work, art and gaming is ridiculous, sad im broke asf and can't afford it 😔
Keep an eye on ebay.. I just got the oled model new at half the retail price, I think people aren't buying them and the prices are crashing, at least it seems like that.
Nice review. Can you share the link for your cool desk clock?
Thanks! Check out my desk accessories episode.
I loved your review, so honest yet precise!
Thanks so much!
Thanks very much....subscribed to all :). Maybe it is important to mention that the new flex keayboard of the surface tab can be run wireless.
In comparison to tie iPad I have to say that the Surface is the way better working tool.
With your choice of music, you could be a great Beninese. 🤟💜
Thanks man. Exciting times - definitely
Thanks Prof. Xavier.
Although I am a hard core Mac user, I find the Surface a very pleasurable device to use for everything else aside from video editing.
brilliant review thank you
i love the way this video presentation. its like a miniseries..!!! interesting...!
Glad you liked it!
Can we run autocad, solidworks in surface pro 11.
No native support yet. Not sure if emulation works.
Thanks for the video, I do really appreciate your reviews 👍🏻
Much appreciated!
It probably will not work, but I am curious if the Apple pencil will work on the new surface. Then will the surface stylus work on the ipad.
It does not 😂 nor does the Logitech Pencil
@@ThisIsE sadface, but thanks for checking
Top video as always! I was curious to see what you think about it since I returned mine. The combo MacBook Pro 14 and iPad Pro 11 as a secondary display for me is priceless. Since you’re using the S24 ultra you should try the combo Galaxy book edge 4 with snap elite, new earbuds etc etc ( I have one too and I’m curious to try it out too).
I am now Surface with Z Fold 6 - twice the 2-in-1 form factors 😂
@@ThisIsE ok now that’s interesting!!! 😂
Thanks for the review. I am excited for the future and i expect better graphic performances in the future
My pleasure
Is this a good video editing tool?
Something like Capcut for casual editing is OK
Great video! Could you please take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge?
I am considering it
does anybody know if i can play games only using the screen?
Snapdragon X Elite 🔋🔋🔋💪
🔋🔋
@@ThisIsE yepp. I’m a 2 🔋 camp voter, rather than 3.
Great review! thx!
Thank you
Thank you
My pleasure
Thank you! I still can't fathom why Apple Music and Apple TV is not available on all platforms
9:26 "actual computer" lol suttle burn, love it. These arm chipped things look proper, waiting for Microsoft to properly support it
I hope they continue to ride the wave and expand their support initiatives.
How I dream of having a Surface pro Y^Y It would really help with studying
Great
Thanks 😊
I wouldn't rush as I'm sure stability will improve over time
It seems that the return rate for devices with Snapdragon X Elite is unusually high.
You didn't mention the battery life at all...
I am yet to report on that in the long term. First impressions - superb 👌🏻 Easily an all-day device if used for casual tasks.
Actually the pro 9 was the best of them until now. Because it has full-fledged windows while windows on arm is just a bad joke. It can‘t even run acrobat reader for god‘s sake.
But they can’t install adobe apps 😢
Some Adobe apps only
i like this laptop but dont have money to buy 😅
Please compare it to the iPad!
I will 👍
Hi pal, Vahid from Hamburg is here! Regarding the year of starting your UA-cam channel, 2016, and the quality of your videos, you should have more than one million subscribers by now. But you don’t, and that’s strange. Why? It seems something is missing in your channel, which are:
@ThisisE 1:42 Well, I've subscribed because... why not? 😄
Fantastic!
You started with a negative tone but everything you said about laptop was good 😂
It started negative last year, but this year it's great
Hi.
Is it worth buying pro 9 still ?
Or elite is better?
And 16 or 32 gb ram? Is it enough 16 and have no lags on chrome and powerpoint or 32 will be needed?
I wouldn’t buy the 9
What does the Surface Pro 11 have?
Touch screen, pen, it's a laptop and table at the same time, it has Windows 11, it has Copilot.
What does the Macbook have?
Just a drawn apple. lol
Surface is the future!!!
awesome concept but still too expensive….
