    Hola! Eso se llama empanadas de yuca en Puerto Rico...cuando se hacen en el horno o en el fogón. Si se hierven son pasteles de yuca. Deliciosos ❤

    Can you bake them with parchment paper and aluminum on top I've never made them before but I will try them

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  3 роки тому +3

      I haven't tried baking them with parchment paper, so I'm not sure. In my experience, parchment paper doesn't do as well at high heat as aluminum foil, so I definitely wouldn't back them any higher than 350.

I definitely can get all the rest of the items needed so this will be a fist but at least I will have pasteles for Christmas!. Thank you so much for this.

    I had asked a question but never mind I found out the hard way way. No you cannot use parchment paper is archment paper my yuka ayuka was stuck to the paper for, they were delicious but stuck to the paper but here's another question what can I do to make the Masa more mois more moist or what I mean is what can I put in it to make it more softer after cooking minds were a little bit summer it's bit solid not completely but they were a little bit too firm

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  2 роки тому

      Hi there! We have used parchment paper for baking them so I’m sorry that yours got stuck. You can add some more shortening and liquid to make them softer.

    First let me say that I have tried several recipes for pasteles from other sites. They were edible but none came close to our grandma's pasteles. Your recipes are perfect ! I make them for my 87-year-old mother and she loves them. I boiled my yuca pasteles prior to freezing them. How long do I have to bake them from frozen state?

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  Рік тому

      This really warms my heart! This is the whole point of putting this channel out there. If you boiled them and then freezes them then you just have to bake them until they are warm all the way through. I would suggest a low temperature like 300 or 325 and then try for about 30 min and give one a try.

    And is the aluminum dangerous to use without leaf?

    • @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen
      @JeffandJosPuertoRicanKitchen  2 роки тому +1

      Probably not dangerous for the oven but the leaf gives pasteles a very unique taste so it would not taste the same.

      Yes, very similar! I think the big difference is that these are filled, whereas I think Kwanga (at least the ones I've seen) is generally just the yuca/cassava. Although I'm sure lots of people do them different ways.

      A lot of Hispanic grocery stores will carry them in the frozen section. At least the frozen ones (which are way easier to use). If you want fresh ones, then yes, you'll have to ask around and see if anyone has some, because I've never seen those sold in stores. If you do use fresh leaves, however, you are going to want to sear them over an open flame before using them for pasteles. This softens up the leaf and makes it a lot easier to fold. Good luck!

Plant based is just that… I don’t know how many of this or that is needed for the bananas and so on but I will learn, what I won’t say this is plant based when it’s not, nor veggie pastels when it’s not.
