  • This video was originally uploaded in late 2016, but making it public from unlisted has made changed the publish date.
    This is a concept of orchestrating drones to create light paintings using VR painting tools for a 1:1 mapping to micro drones.
    This was filmed using only my iPhone in my living room, so the it is certainly a rough cut. There is still much work to be done to streamline the exporting and flying process.

    This demo combines the following:
    HTC Vive and Google's Tilt Brush
    Optitrack motion capture system
    Blender for mild mesh processing (removing vertex doubles)
    USC ACT Lab's crazyswarm
    PABLO iOS app for light painting

    Also, do you think a system like Optitrack can be replaced by the SteamVR basestations if the drones carry a SteamVR tracker on them?

    Why do you need such an expensive Optitrack tracking system, when the lighthouse and some 0.01 cent IR photosensors will give sub mm accuracy?
