After hearing Seneca, it's not surprising some people want to avoid getting married. It's all ridiculous anyway: Jill doesn't love him, is never going back to him, loves Frank and is living with him, so what's Seneca gaining except a form of revenge? Frank's far from perfect, but at least he treats Jill like a grown woman, not a wayward teenager who needs guidance and a firm hand. I hope John was nothing like Seneca in real life, otherwise poor Sandy!!
He was nothing like this character. They had along, devoted, happy marriage. There are numerous interviews with him & them as a couple on UA-cam where his personality comes through.
