This is soooooo cool! Never knew these existed! I still remember seeing BX’s (not AWD though) everywhere, and now you never see them anymore. It will make a great service “Van” for Seaside garage!
I owned this ;-) I just got an email from the guy who gave it to you. He bought it from me in 2014 here in northern Denmark. At that time it was still running. I didn't have time to fix it for MOT. He wanted to use it for parts. I made a couple of steel plates for the rubber mounts under the rear end ( dunno what their called ) ;-) As you say they are impossible to find, so I made my own with some industrial rubber shock absorbers. Obviously they're not up for the task 🤣 Fantastic winter vehicle...miss it ! I have some documentation on the 4wd ...write me if you want it. Cheers
How cool is that! Så er du jo nok dansk! :) Jeg vil meget gerne have lidt mere historie på bilen, så hvis du har lyst til at skrive en mail med hvad du ved om den til Seppowashuus@gmail.com ville det være fedt!
Also, that number on the A-pillar - 4938 - is the RP (replacement parts) code. It's basically the build date (17 May 1990) so if there are any changeovers in parts, they're normally listed by RP number, or the date of it.
Great to see this one being taken care of! 👍 I'm gonna start the restoration of mine after my DS is done. We might start almost simultaneously with our BX restos 😅
What a great car. Some of those switches and controls look just like the ones in a Peugeot 305. We had a couple of those back in the 80s. I learned to drive in one of them, the GTX.
Even cooler is the fact that Gandini designed it to be a Volvo! It was called the Volvo Tundra, and basically he just replaced the pop up headlights for fixed ones and the offset Volvo grille by the Citröen chevrons. Design recycling at it's best! 😅
That's a cool find especially being the Break/ Estate as well!! hopefully you can get the rear subframe/ axle back on for now and get the BX running again 🙂
great find never knew they did one!! We had 4 x 4 bx 5 dr hatches over here in the UK in the 80's/90's but not estates. Similar to my Skoda Octavia Scout now in many ways! Hope you can get it going will look forward to the next video
Love the car and I really like your channel - it’s my favourite channel for modern classics. Good luck with the project. As long as there’s not too much corrosion In important areas, it will be fine. It might just take a while sourcing parts, but that can be quite fun in itself!
There was a single 4x4-one for sale here in Germany (I think even a red one, too), which was listed for AGES. And then it suddenly sold. I really REALLY hope it didn't get bought as a parts donor.
12:30 If you find a talented upholstery-shop they may be able to "plug" that (if not replace that piece of fabric) and make it look all good without replacing everything.
Fantastic! i wouldn't write that off ,I have put back together worse! Just give it a clean and have a good look what's missing and what you have in the spares. Before you even look at doing anything more with it. The car i put back together, i had to scavenge many scrap cars, for the daft odds and sods, and even had to take notes on how things went back together! Off topic, i know a peugeot 405 4x4 exists but i never knew they did a BX version let a lone a an AX 4x4! I will be watching how you get on with this, as i do like this, and i do own a peugeot 306!
Brave man! I look forward to following the progress on it though. Should be an interesting revival. Best of luck. I notice a page in the newspaper in the footwell that said something like Bog People, made me laugh.
The BX 4WD estate is a great car amd project, looking forward to more on this and the other cars. Would be great to see you and Mr Kitch (of UpnDown) doing one or two cross-over videos. Nice one fella :)
The 4x4 was rare! I didn't even know they did an Estate version. Although at the same time the Estate is basically a hatch floorpan with another section of hatch floorpan welded on at the end! 🤣 Shame really never offered with the 16v engine, although IIRC it was a bit fragile even with the lower powered engine.
'Patroens' is spelled 'Patreons'. 🙈 A BX 4x4. Wow! Great barn find that is. Nice project ahead. Better do a nice job on it. Not just to make it road worthy. Otherwise it may end up on the scrapyard sooner than you think. So clean and treat all the rust, conserve it on in- and outside. Afterwards repaint the parts. And you are good to go.
Well this is the second one of these i've ever seen, the other one was parked outside Matalan at Lakeside retail park, I almost, nearly hung about waiting for the owner to try and buy it off them. however SWMBO prevailed... ;-)
In terms of how far gone it is rustwise, it makes me more sad knowing my BX wasn't quite this far (though the front door hinges were hanging on by luck, the amount of rust (and air-gaps!) around the hinge plates was pretty bad!), but overall was in pretty solid-ish condition, bar the broken tailgate lock & window and a few other points, like, say, the timing belt! I wish I could go back in time and rescue the thing from myself... :(
Def worth saving, - there can't be that many 4wd left, - must have been a rare bird even from new ! Due to the drilled inserted rubber caps, - this car must have had some rust protection in the past, - so it may not be that bad to rescue !
@@SeasideGarage Whatever you do that car is a keeper, it may take a lot of work but the end of it will be worth it. Most of that rust is surface anyway, apart from the big hole but you are more than capable of sorting that out. Looking forward to seeing this going again.
Now that is a cool car! 😍Here in Finland I've never seen one that wasn't "a tax evasion van" with a huge extension on the roof to fool the government. 😂
Yeah they added a plastic box on the roof as soon as the car was shipped here and that somehow made the car classify as a van. I'm not sure if there was even any storage space in that box. 😂
Hopefully all the parts in the back aren't the old ones from the other car that were replaced by parts from this one! Are the rear subframe mounts the same as on the FWD cars? I suspect not as the frame would have mounts for the diff and drive shaft uprights.
I love it. But yes, you are mad. 😃 As others have said, I did not know there was such a thing. It must be extremely rare. So……with your skills and knowledge it has a chance.
Those rear subframe bushings look like old landrover engine mounts, aka the cheapest possible rubber mounts. I would be useful to learn more about the nature of the 4x4 system, is it Citroen's own engineering or a conversation by an outside company like dangel?, in much the same way as heuliez making the rear bodywork for the estates.
