  • Manchester City in colour, Urban Photography workshop - Street Art - Graffiti Lines - Shapes
I had a work workshop in Manchester City and my client wanted to photograph street art, we took Steff to some of the best street graffitti street art Manchester had to offer, the bright colours angles lines and painting was amazing, we all had a great time down the back streets of the city and found some really good art on the walls of Manchester streets.

It is always refreshing to change your photography habits a little. I hope the heatwaves arent too harsh in your area. It looks terryfying on the forecasts.

I just don't like graffiti...the mindless scrawls, but I LOVE street art!! Some of that stuff in Manchester is amazing work - and very nicely captureed too.

Thanks Paul, I always look for street art in the cities I visit, adds a new dimension to the environment and some of the stuff is amazing. Just a train ride away for me too, I will be sure to check it out.

Definitely some amazing creativity in some of those. Huge difference between street art and graffiti. There are those that just tag things with a bit of writing (graffiti), which is what I see mainly where I live, and then there are those that truly have the artistic flair to make it a thing of beauty. The art should be encouraged, the other discouraged.

Nice change to see some street photography, the edgy soundtrack was perfect 👍. Re the art work at about 17.58, not Boy George, but Frida Kahlo, a very famous Mexican artist.

We are heading back in to Manchester tomorrow. Leaving the video camera at home and just taking the cameras. It is about time we used them more. Love the art on the walls in the city. Just found you and subscribed. Thanks

What a great day out! One of the best street art examples and all done in a day. Lots of hidden gems and superb examples of graffiti art.

Being a Mancunian, I loved it. I mostly spend time photographing around the Castlefield area. Sadly as each year goes by, more and more apartments are being erected which impacts the aesthetics of the area. IMHO, Manchester looks its chracter best under gray, rainy skies. Here I shoot it with ASA 1600 film, or I simulate a film profile in post if I really had to shoot digital. The gritty film suits the gritty city.

That was very interesting and something a bit different. Not really my thing, however I was impressed with the street art, some of which was awesome. I enjoyed the shapes and lines section too. Well done mate 📷👏

Boy George .... 😊😊😁😁🤣🤣 I'm sure I'm not the only one to point this out but its Frida Kahlo, one of the most famous artists of the C20. Seriously check out her work, its really interesting and her life story is amazing. A feminist icon before feminism had even been invented.
Some great shots in the vlog, where high tech meets grunge meets post industrialism. Too many shots I like to list them.
Glasgow also has some great street art, some commissioned, some freelance. Also a fantastic sculpture trail in the Central Belt of the work of Andy Scott, who did The Kelpies (biggest horse statues in the world, although the mounted statue of Genghis Khan in Mongolia might be larger).

When photographing street art do you have to have foreground in the shot

I was just thinking to myself when walking the dog this morning that I should get back out with the camera in built up areas and this was in my to watch list! How spooky is that? You got some cracking images there Paul, never been to Manchester myself but it's on my list when I get off my backside :-)

Paul, the 2nd bit of Street Art by the canal, under the bridge is not the safest area, Cottagers Corner or something one UA-camr calls it, basically where Gay Men meet for “lewd acts” to be polite, there’s even police notices up saying it’s against the law. That and the fact the place stinks.
( nice to have met you in Castlefield, that day it looks like too ).
Where the large Blue Tit piece is there’s one across the car park from there and another around the on the next Street and more just up the road, they are from around 2018/19 for a Charity Street Art Festival like the blindfolded kid one. I hate it when you get jealous idiots tagging over them, just because that’s the limit of what they can do, great video from my home city though I live 20 miles out now in Horwich near Rivington.

@@paulcomptonpdphotography Where you were on the high white bridge in Castlefield, follow the canal you see to your right and you’ll find more there too, more graffiti mostly rather than Street Art

It is surprising that the council who are so keen on promoting Manchester as a safe tourism area, allow such filth to exist so close to the city center. Last summer, I was walikng up from Castlefield towards what I think is called Rochdale Canal, and under a bridge, where ottherwise would have been most picturesque, there was this body on the wooden bench, covered with whatever it was, and around it were helf dozen empty bottles, of Gin, Vodka, wine, Cider, and puke and human excrement. As for the Canal Steet and the sourounding areas, lets just say that I do not agree with the politics of the Manchester City Council. Sexual politics and agendas, should have no place in the places of decision making. Lets hope that I don't come across as a biggot, but I worked in the service industry in the city for 26 years as a manager, and lets say that I have witnessed some stomach churnning scenes.

arent you worried about copyright infringements when you post someone else's artwork?
