That road as hardly changed in my seventy years apart from a few bends straitened out There was talk about using the Woodhead train tunnel for part of the road But they can’t do much as it’s a National Park
I have driven over the snake pass many, many times some steep climbs and lots fast downs with full loaded trailers.I drove a Scania141 and a Volvo F88 apart from changing down gears on down hills to slow speed i was glad the tractor units both had exhauster valves.Apart from my favourite trucks American the best, the Swedes make great trucks.Do the modern trucks have exhauster valves ?. In case subscribers don't know exhauster valves work by a flap inside exhaust downpipe that slows flow of exhaust gasses so makes for engine brake same as a jake brake on American trucks.
Oh i love the 141 Scania. Yes most of the modern trucks have the so caled intarder whitch is the exhaust break. In addition to that they also have the retarder witch is the electromagnetic drive shaft brake
