Hi everyone! Was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, so I didn't get a video out, but I'm back today! :) I'm curious if anyone else knew you could do this and I'm just behind - thanks!
I've been using SketchUp since v3 (so... 15 years or so?) and this was one of the features that had made me fall in love with the program back when I first started using it. The @Last (the original developers) user forums were very active and helpful in teaching this kind of small tips. Love your videos. Hope you're well now.
TheSketchUpEssentials i was thinking about copy and aray u came here with diffrent solution thanx 👍
Feeling a bit better - thanks for the comment! :)
Absolutely love this move! Had no idea before this video; I'm modeling a tambour door and it's the perfect way to do it. Thank you.
I just LOVE this guy and all his life saving videos. Thank you SO much for this wonderful help.
I did NOT know this. This has transformed how I copy components. Thank you!
Great. I'm planing a loft bed at home and I needed to brush up on arrays. I am a decades long Adobe Ilustrator user so when ever I find comparable functions it's a eureka moment. I love how you can work like AI in top-view and Parallel Projection and later start thinking 3D.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
ur a life and time saver thank you!
Holy Jesus! Been a Sketch-up user for over a decade, but never realized there was a division (/) function using move tool. Used the multiplication (X) often but never division. My mind wi blown, and I have learned something new today. Thank you.
Lol - I responded the same way when I first found out it was a thing :)
🤯
Thanks so much for sharing!!
It was very helpful .Thank you very much.
always great videos. Thank you very much!
Thank you, this helped a lot
Thanks for your useful tips
Thank you , this is so nice
Thanks for your much valuable sketchup lessons!
👍
Hi Justin, Great tips with every video. I have some experience with SketchUp, tried a few tricks, however it is easier to learn from the best, thank you. I have a question for you. I have a problem where I try to create a linear array, copying an object at a particular spacing, however I need to make every subsequent copy larger or smaller by a certain factor relative to the original. The factor is applied just to one of the dimensions, typically the height. Ideally I would like the bottom of the elements to follow one curve in elevation, while the top of the elements to follow another curve. Not sure if something like this is feasible, it would greatly speed up the process. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
You deserve a lot of likes again and again, thanks for sharing your knowledge
👍
Very cool and powerful. I will be using this tip often.
Thanks - glad you found it helpful!
simplycity of explanation is 100% pure.. sir .... i feels easy when u start explaining everytime about sketchup things ... thanx from india keep posting sir 💐💐💐💐💐💐👍👍👍
Awesome - glad it helped!
Hi, thanks didn know about sertting the distance with out premeasureing the distance before copy multiply or divide...
Is it possible to rotate and elevate objects in one go, like the tread of a spiral stair?
thank you so much! this was super helpful
Glad it was helpful!
I was thinking last time whether it is possible to make a copy in a number of parts at a certain angle, and yes it is possible thanks to you with this tutorial.
Awesome - glad it helped!
Thank you , that was amazing so helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, Sir
Thank you
New info .... much appreciated!
Thanks! :)
Thank you.
you are amazing!!
Great tip!
Glad it was helpful!
Gracias
thanks for share
thank you so much for teaching . very useful
Anyway to change rotation and height so you can copy objects into a spiral?
very informative, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
just perfect to create symetrical holes on a circle
So good.
Hi Justin - - great video.
Is there a way (tool?) to create concentric circles "push-pulled" into concentric cylinders?
Like a wedding cake... (so the cylinders get smaller as they are stacked on top)?
You may want to try FredoScale - it contains some tools that may be helpful in this application - ua-cam.com/video/HN_7D0NTv-E/v-deo.html
Nice realy nice thank you
Did this once by accident. Thought it was a glitch. Nice vid
Lol - I did too at first :)
Did not know, didn't know you can copy from rotate. THANKS
Awesome - now you know :)
thanks so much!
You're welcome!
Where did you type the spacing value?
great, thank you so much :))))))
Great video, I'm using sketchup pro 2021 and I'm not able to get the multi function to work. I can make single copies of components or groups but not multiple.
When I try to type *5 it says invalid entry. If I keep CTRL key pressed it won't allow me to type anything. What Key sequence do you use to make this work.
I discovered what I was doing wrong.
select Move tool(M) click on component and release, hit Ctrl key and release, move a short distance with the mouse in the direction you want to make the copies then type in the distance and hit enter, then without touching anything else type *5 and hit enter.
thank you
Full informative video! Thanks! Why you are choosing blue sketchup colour demonstration? Is that because you like the blue color, and because of your eyes?
I guess because I like blue?
@@Thesketchupessentials Never mind, just a complimet and joke!
It's a pity that you can't go back to the array you created and then making further changes... Nothing works. Is still the same situation with the last version of the program or there is a specific plugin to do that?
I dont have an bank account that support patreon but ill make sure not to skips all your ads, thank you
U r the best💜
Thanks!
I don see where you are inputting the numbers for copy, boltcircle
don't understand how you move the rotate tool anchor point
Does anyone know if there is an "intelligent" array plugin, that remember the array, an let you right click on one of the objects, and then enter new values?
By the way - some nice info - have been using Sketchup for about twenty years and only new of the 5x feature
Hi, Thank you for the great tips
actually, those tips didn't work in SketchUp 2020 especially when modifying the distance and/or the number of copies after I made my copy, in SketchUp 2020 it makes extra copies, and if I changed the number of copies retaining the same exact distance it makes instant copies over the previous action. I tried everything knew .. it seems it's a bug in sketchup.
2020 is acting weird on this - for some reason it wasn't working for me with groups. It works with ungrouped geometry and components, but not with groups for some reason
Hi, I am trying to do it , type "x5" or "*5" but I can not do multiple copies... Do you know why?? I use free SketchUp 2017.
I also use Sketchup free (web) Just hold cntrl key, while typing
option key for those using a Mac
How to make copies along a defined path? Example, copying trees along a pathway OR columns along an elliptical floor plate periphery.
Try this - ua-cam.com/video/5utTtEFi_NQ/v-deo.html
Hey I have question, what if the array function doesn't work? It's strange that I can't use the / and x function for array..
My assumption is that you're doing something out of order, or clicking and dragging, or doing something else that's interrupting the array function
nice .
Thanks!
Something else which needs to be on a prompt.
If there an Extension to create Parametric Arrays which stay as Arrays?
Some kind of parametric arrays extension would be nice - it is a bit frustrating completely losing the array functionality as soon as you select another tool...
@@Thesketchupessentials Trimble needs to put this kind of system into Groups at the application level. Relying so much on Third Parties can make developers lazy.
why if i type *10 it says invalid lenght enter?
hold cntrl while typing. I battled with it also...
Awesome! ;- )
👍
💙
I cant get it to work! I try typing it in pressing enter nothing shows up! I have it selected. I have measurement pre set and nothing.. I have tried it so many times and I cant figure it out!
It sounds like you're not able to make any copies at all?
@@Thesketchupessentials I know how to make copies just one at a time. Ctrl button. But would like to make multiple at a time. I just dont know what I'm doing wrong. I swear I'm doing everything you say. I'm just missing something.
@@kirstenreeve3979 same situtation it keep saying invalid length
Please make a tutorial on how to model a wobbler this is such a bait.))) Thanks and like.
I don't know what this is...
I'm having trouble copying because every time I type * a value...it says correct value.
I don't understand what this means
👍
😎
why cant you make the shetchup window bigger so people can read what you are doing in the measurement box ?
Well the SketchUp window doesn't get bigger - it's maximized on my screen when I record. That said, for tutorials like this in the future that are heavy on measurement box, I can probably have that zoomed in the corner of the screen. However, this is why I narrate tutorials in addition to demonstrating, so I can describe what I'm doing in case it's hard to follow...
@@Thesketchupessentials or make your window a lot smaller for sketchup
you don't describe in the videos how to use some of the tools you are using. You just say you will in a link
Which tool(s)?
I do not see any typing in your video...
i didnt get it :C i need a dumb it down explanation
the best part of the video is always the first second.....
Lol
this is just telling me invalid distance. :(
Dude, you never explain how to move an object a certain distance, and then duplicate it. I need to have a certain spacing between my objects.
dont work :(
Yes it does
Just a tip, don't smoke a phat one before watching this.
Thank you
You're welcome!
