They're human. Women, alone in a foreign land, usually in their youth where others their age born under more fortunate conditions are going around town with their friends. Their phones are a small source of comfort for them.
I'm not at all against dishing out disciplinary actions when they misbehave, but try to remember that you're dealing with a fellow human being.

I agree to a certain extent, but at the end of the day they are employed here, not here to be exposing employers privacy and wasting time that they are getting paid for. I see it a little like how students are not allowed to use phones/use phones with restrictions in our schools. Thats just not the purpose you're at that place for.

@[thecrystalwitch] for real?! If they are a parents they should know that taking care of their children is an obligation. Yes I know parents have to work.. we all do. Still though the bottom line is you want kids make time for them. If you can't make time for your own flesh and blood then they shouldn't have kids yet. Parents should never use work as an excuse as the reason why they have no time to take care of their children. This is just opinion btw.

The only difference is that they have a different profession.
To domestic workers who is reading this comment. Thank you so much for your sacrifices, patience in hardships, accepting a low pay, enduring abusive employer(s) and many other things that S'poreans, PR and expats can never endure even for a day.

The tone and perspective they’re pushing towards domestic helpers is deadass gross and rude. They’re human, let them live. They’re on land away from their own home. Yea it could be seen as a distraction, but it’s a human right in society of the developed world. Restricting this upon many other rules just shows how domestic workers are modern-day slaves.

The irony is that the very concept of domestic helpers as is currently being practised in Singapore is akin to modern day slavery. Domestic helpers are some of the least protected segments of the community, which explains our appalling rates of employee abuse. Yet, instead of applying widespread reform, we only choose to pay heed as and when.

Everyone can definitely use their phone. Domestic helpers are humans too, they need some entertainment as well. But there is a difference between educating your child and educating your domestic helper that you hired. Parents can easily educate and discipline their child if they have leaked any personal info or did something wrong. And they are kids, they are young and naive. On the other hand, it is not easy to educate or discipline a domestic helper. Number 1, they are adults they should have known better. Number 2, its a relationship between an employer and an employee. And usually what does an employer do when the employee does something wrong? Scold right? Like your boss scolding you for not submitting something in on time. But they are just maids and they live in our houses. We don't want to scold them. Cause the relationship will be ruined, they might get mad or beh song or they dont do their work. This happened to my aunt, she did not scold her domestic helper just kinda told her off (not in a angry way tho) then the maid went to abuse her 6yo son for a month and she decided to fired her

I like how you refer to them as ‘Maids’. You brought this issue up to make the rest of the rich employers aware that these lowly maids should be held down to lower standards. I like how you brought their ‘employers’ together to find out what they would do to ‘manage’ these domestic workers. Yes, find out how to make life more miserable for them, for the buck well spent! You seem to think that these maids have no right to be happy in their jobs.
Security implications caused by maids! What about other singaporeans? Really? Did somebody die because a maid posted a fun clip on TikTok? How did you know that they were never shot on their own time? You are slave drivers with underpaid maids who you expect to work 24/7. Racists.

Having traveled all over Asia, this is of the reasons why Singapore is at the bottom of my favorite places. Targeting specifically the foreign domestic helpers for more government restrictions instead of just leaving it to the employers who might or might not care. Most people in Singapore do post on social media including employers which exposes info just as much as everyone else. Let the employers decide if they want cell phone usage at work or not. This segment pretty much showed how ignorant and biased some Singaporeans are including the producers/host of this segment.

@@ducc5526 I've replied to someone else's comment regarding to kids already. So i'll just copy and paste here.
This happened to my aunt, she did not scold her domestic helper just kinda told her off (not in a angry way tho) then the maid went to abuse her 6yo son for a month and she decided to fire her

I feel that employers should be more understanding to their homesickness and maybe allow them a 1 hour session at an earlier timing like 5-7pm to call their families. It can be a major concern when your child’s videos are shared online but banning the only connection the FDW has to their families seems cruel to me

Would you allow an employee to do such things at a school or an office? Yes they should be able to use their phone to contact their family and friends or to look up something online or to send an e-mail and do a banking transaction, but not to take videos or pictures inside the employers home and post them on social media. I think not providing wifi is a good start. They did not mention it, but putting secret cameras and microphones would help to supervise what they are doing.

Even without understanding that, let's say you work here in Singapore - does your boss regulate your phone. It is common sense for example not to use your phone during work or meetings, same for them, to use it with judgment. If you dont want the helper to take photos of the house, the kids, just say so, and trust the helper to comply. if you dont even trust the helper, then please fire her.

These are domestic helpers not house elves like dobby for crying out loud. Set boundaries regarding publishing you and your kids' images. But for heavens sake dont treat them like slaves. Let them have sundays off, compensate them well, communicate your expectations, and you'll find they'll do their tik toking elsewhere.
News reporting like this is BS and paints domestic helpers in a negative light. As if they dont have enough to deal w on their own this lady acts like helpers are uneducated morons that need to be policed like children.

Not every maid is the same ... alot of the maids chat on the phone non stop while doing house work. Chat in the evening when they are supposed to rest. They go for long walks when buying grocery, they steal small money from employers to buy phone cards... and i am not lying... truth story ..5 out of 5 of our maid does that. Not in the beginning but they will gradually pick up all the back habits. They think they r the only ones who works overseas? alot of people works overseas .. u have to be professional during work hours isn't it. That's what u are paid to do. There are alot of tricks up their sleeves than u think. But to be fair, we are not saying allllll maid are like this you guys... but alot .. i mean alot are like this. My friend's maid even tried to seduce her husband lmao.

Then you better treat her right. Because you may need her testimony and approval on Judgement Day if God sees her more superior (in deeds) than you and will only let you "through" by your helper's approval. :)

I don't see a problem if work is getting done. They are humans not robots. You are paying them pittance for all that hardwork and you still complain? If it bothers you so much, why don't you do your own work ?
