I tried playing Darwin's Journey on BGA but couldn't make much sense of it, even after the tutorial, but your enthusiasm for it has be curious to try again.
Foxpaw’s controversies were more than using AI, it was the artificial boosting in popularity to get on the hotness bgg track, the lying regarding artists and team members, and overall dishonesty all around. Things like fake accounts and names, deleted statements, etc. as well as the AI stuff is what created all this fuzz and hate. Plenty on BGG forums that goes over it.
@@bcantui ah good to know! The other stuff is surprising to me, I kind of believe their explanation for those things in their description. I think among cultists is bad, but it feels like the company is decently genuine. One of their main marketing tactics is to give away other popular games on their Facebook page so that people stay around and stay updated, so it seems like a pretty strong pivot from an already established community. I do know that on bgg hotness clicks breed more clicks so it's not surprising it went up high.
Thanks for the video! I think you've talked me into waiting for Darwin's Journey Oceania until it hits retail. Very tough decision, that game was my first 'all in' and I do really love it, so the completionist urge is very strong, however, I realize I already have more content than I'm likely to play anytime soon... right now the rational side of my brain is winning and just has to fend off the emotional decision for less than a day! That shipping cost is a big factor supporting my rational decision though! 🤯
@@ekconley6429 definitely always helps with that rational decision! My rational brain is telling me I don't have enough space for more massive darkness haha
@RoomandBoardReviews haha, space is a whole other thing. Though I think I'm running out if nooks and crannies... have to clear the keep ir cull shelf, but it probably auto fills with another round of culls, like a board game sump pump!
@@eliinameow8658 haha I think it does look neat. Although I think my own enjoyment of mindbug was less than my enthusiasm for it, I still think it does what it sets out to do, and I think this will scratch that similar itch. You'll have to let me know if you pull the trigger
Sadly, _Postcards_ is using launch booom. I was keen to back it, until noticing the 'booom'. I directly messaged the creator, & courteously explained my position.
Darwin's Journey is my first crowdfunding purchase this year. I'm getting the deluxe because I absolutely love the base game and it's worth it for me. But if I'd gotten the core in retail too, I'd probably wait for retail here as well. 😅
Malediction sounded cool but then when I looked at the minis I was disappointed they were just fantasy minis and not the cool geometric shapes you were describing. :(

I was very curious about Lost Lumina.. hmm since you picked it, I'm even more so considering backing it. Thanks Chris! :)

yeah but if I get DJ Oceania at retail I won't feel the smug superiorityness of having spent more than others 😏

Just because they’re using launch boom doesn’t necessarily mean they’re using the one dollar pre-pledge, right?
Technically true, but if you go to the Garden Gnome expansion section of the project, you'll see this campaign did use the pre-pledge.
@@th1ngo dannng that's disappointing. I guess I need to be more diligent.

@@sideswipe2615 those would have been MUCH cooler you're right!
Once or twice? 😅
Backed Malediction. A majority of my friends are primarily Magic players, and I can see this as a game to get them into boardgames.
It’s tempting me too. lol.
Downvoted for calling JK Rowling a "T-RF", how pathetic
