Sorry to hear about Alice. It's absolutely tragic and such a young age. My sister used to live in Mallorca. Sounds like you had a good time and read plenty. Thanks Olly for the upload at such a sad time.
Heartbroken over Alice as well. We were to buddy read 2 Ray Bradbury books, starting this month and then another for Victober. She was such a wonderful person and I really enjoyed our buddy reads. Thanks for the kind words about her.
I too really enjoy breaking up my reading schedule with a Goosebumps book. I was at the right age back in the day to enjoy them so nostalgia plays a part
I’m so sorry to hear about Alice, I didn’t know her on BookTube, but it’s so sad how young she was and it’s a sobering reminder of how precious life is every day that we have with our loved ones. Glad you enjoyed so many books while you were on vacation! Love the mix of books and the raccoon book looks fun 😂
Some great reading there! I love the Doc Savage books. I used to read those double paperbacks as a kid, you know, one book on this side, flip it over and upside down and there's another. Cool stuff. Very sad news about Alice. 😢
I am so sorry for your loss Ollie. I did not know her but tragic to lose someone so young. Raccoon sounds like a lot of fun. I need to read more Joe R Lansdale, I really loved The Drive In. I also read one Hap and Leonard book last year, so definitely need to look out for more in the series.
Sad and shocking news about Alice. Some Booktubers have revived her Hercule Poirot Tag to do in remembrance of her, I put Murder on the Orient Express on my July TBR in her memory. She will be sorely missed she was so fun and knowledgeable. Glad you had a relaxing holiday in Majorca.
Speaking of central planning, you may enjoy Red Plenty by Francis Spufford. Part novel and part essay, it’s about Soviet efforts in the 1960s to build a computer system that could monitor and coordinate their whole economic system, and why they were doomed to fail reasons they couldn’t even suspect. Spufford writes with a lot of sympathy for the goal of abolishing waste and want, and is really illuminating about the people involved, and what various individuals and groups each knew about what was going on. It reads much like science fiction about actual times and places.
I read loads of Doc Savage books as a teenager and after the first few, wondering why he always had propeller-driven aircraft, I looked at the printing history and saw that they were written in the 1930s. Some of them were really plodding but they all had terrific covers, usually by James Bama. In The Annihilist someone is tortured by having his fingers whittled down to the bone. The memory of it still makes me cringe over 40 odd years later even though I can remember nothing else about the rest of the book. Lester Dent wrote most of the Doc Savage stories and George Pal bought the rights to all 181 of them with a view to making them into movies. On the evidence of 1975's Doc Savage: Man of Bronze, it's probably just as well that he never made any more.
"I like to read airplane disaster books when I'm flying." 🤣 Sorry to hear about Alice. Ive lost someone I worked with this past week too and it's so hard and such a strange sort of grief.
@@CriminOllyBlog I actually do the same!! It started when I read Airframe by Michael Crichton on a flight to Texas. Loved the book and started reading airplane disaster books whenever I fly. Always looking for recommendations.
That's horrible news about Alice. I wasn't subscribed, but I'd seen several of her videos. She had a lovely energy. "The Crimson Horror" reminded me of Mark Gatiss' first Lucifer Box novel, "The Vesuvius Club" - a lovely pastiche of Victorian adventures, and totally mad. I was reading on a plane last year, when I noticed the person next to me glancing at the book and looking uncomfortable. It took me a while to realise I was reading David Sedaris's "When You Are Engulfed In Flames" 😂
Hi Olly… I just started a book and thought you might like it FantasticLand. You might have it. I’ve seen on some Booktube videos recently so forgive me if it’s a rerun. It’s good so far! Hope they make it into movie Sending condolences into the universe to friends and family of Alice. Too young :-(
So sorry to hear about Alice, dreaful news 😢 currently working my way through all the Matt Helms (along with the Parker novels), excellent series. I recommend The Ambushers too, features a machete duel with a former Nazi!
Thought the Cash Laramie book might be something I'd enjoy... but it must be out of print. The paperback is listed on Amazon for $1,260. Yes, that's twelve hundred dollars.
I recently read the Mysterious Affair at Styles... I'm now going through Christie chronologically, im somewhere in the 1940s, once ive finished my 87th Precinct binge ill get back to those haha... Sorry to hear anout your friend 😞
Are you planning to read all 181 Doc Savage books? As you pointed out, 'Kenneth Robeson' is an in-house name and three different writers wrote the series.
Probably not, but who knows! I have a digital omnibus of the first 10 that I’m working my way through, but if I can get hold of the rest cheaply I might well continue.
Very sad news about Alice. I can't help but have an image of you at the buffet, like a snout in the trough type image 🤭 I hope you behaved, you're representing England 👑
Loved that doctor who episode although I don’t think Matt Smith is the best doctor. But I loved Rachael Stirling and her mother Diana Rigg. I’m a huge admirer of both actresses.
Awe I love Matt Smith as the Dr. If you like Dianna Rigg as an actor she was great in her last performance which was psychological horror film Last night in Soho, . definitely a film worth checking out if you've not seen it.

Yeah Doc Savage is a lot of fun
So sorry to hear about Alice. Mysterious Affair at Styles is one of my favorite books.
I’m enjoying it so far

That does get a mention in the Walmart book, sounds fascinating
Thankyou for teaching me about Bath salts!! 😮 Siân
I didn't know Alice, but that is incredibly sad - so young!! What is this 3 that we've lost from the community now?? In a year?

It’s a habit I picked up from my dad

Devasted to hear about Alice. Several of my friends have died very young over the years, so I felt it. I wish her family well and hope they heal.
For June on the Range I read 1. The Hunger 2.The Sixth Shotgun 3. The Desert Crucible 4. Dragon Teeth. I really liked The Sixth Shotgun!

That does sounds like a good one!
Fun Fact: ‘The Mysterious Affair At Styles’ was based on a murder that took place in British India

I love Robert Parker’s books and Spenser is one of my favourite characters
I love the little interludes where he cooks a yummy meal
I can’t believe that you read a Doctor Who book 😮!! I love it
I only just found Alice's book channel. Very sad news 😔
It’s really tragic

I hadn’t realize you’d started the Matt Helm series. I need to get back to them, I got derailed by The Executioner.
They’re definitely a decent read, although I do find the representation of women a bit hard to take at times
@@CriminOllyBlog yes I agree. In general 1960s spy fiction is crappy to women.
Very sad news about Alice. I can't help but have an image of you at the buffet, like a snout in the trough type image 🤭 I hope you behaved, you're representing England 👑
Have you read Seishi Yokomizo? I just received a copy of Death on Gokumon Island. I have a few books ahead of it.
Yes I’ve read the first book in that series which I liked a lot and the 3rd which was decent but not quite as good
A British person holiday in Mallorca? That’s a first
😂😂

I didn't like Matt Smith's portrayal of Dr. Who either. He is a much better actor in other genres. 🙃
@@Greencava11 Oh I haven't seen that one yet. I'll have to check that one out. Thanks.
@@ObscureBookAdventuresI really enjoyed it . There is also an interview with the director somewhere about working with Dianna which was a good read
Alice will be missed so much 💔
She really will
💚🖤
Walmart?!? How about Amazon?
They're in it too!
☹️
🤗
♥️
Sorry I suggested a bad one for Patreon reads!
Well they can’t all be great! And your buddy read choice was excellent 😊
Imo TJ Newman is not a good writer. I didn't like Falling at all.
What is Alice’s channel called?
It’s Alice and the Giant Bookshelf
