It's all about the process! I'm glad I found this video as I was running out of ideas on what to do with my damaged exit hatch. I think I'm going to borrow your idea for a new roof hatch.
That's some dedication working in the cold. I've been doing some side projects I can do inside on my bus, but for the most part she is in the barn and not being touched.
Yeah its chilly but my goal is to get it livable by spring! Good motivation to keep moving in this frigid air. Currently waiting for it to defrost so I can go work in it again lol. Good luck with your build! Small projects add up to big progress!
"If this leaks I am going to lose it..." Haha... great video like how you showed the process. Happens to me too. most things I do it seems like I have to redo so been researching the skylight and always asking people, "How's it doing? any leaks?" And most of the time no one replies. Cool you're building it yourself. Those boat hatches are such a rip off. I screwed my roof up and got some leaks. I got a step van with one of those translucent roofs and I wanted to beef it up since it was like being in a tent when it rained so I got this huge sheet of aluminum and riveted it to the existing roof and yeah I got some leaky rivets that I had to redo and some seams I had to redo and no leaks now but yeah knowing what i know now i would have done it differently.
I hope you plan on using some silicone around your hatch. Especially where you added the extra wood around the outside edges or where the pieces of wood come together will end up leaking. The paint might hold the leaking back for a short time but the pain will settle, crack and leak if you don't use Silicone. Other then the silicone it all looks good your doing a great job... Best Wishes
This is just what I was looking for! All the other DIY hatch builds look way too complicated for me to tackle solo, but yours is very straightforward. How well is it holding up to leaks?
Thanks!! I ended up taking off this tape, and using henry self leveling caulk. It worked great and finally no leaks! That tape held in moisture and never dried. I think I’ll do another coat of this caulk to be safe but one hefty coat did the trick :)
That is a scary situation. I’ve had a trailer come off going down a hill. Definitely puckered for a while. 350lbs isn’t going to make it or break it. May need to move the water tanks and generator to the back. Maybe over tightened the grade 8s? But to bend the entire receiver, yikes.
Good for you. Great tenacity girl 💖
Liz!!! I love this. Nice work :)

Glad to inspire!! I want to see the end result!!
@@Liz.Crookes Hopefully it won't take me a month! :)
@@Liz.Crookes How's the bus coming along for you?

At 8:40 she clearly stated she liberally caulked the perimeter of the new skylight, then applied sealant tape.
You're awesome! Great soundtrack btw! Chet Faker specially : P
