Axot-nurse maybe comes from the Germanic notion, for in German a nurse esp. one that works in an hospitals called Krankschwester, lit. illness-sister, so sister-axot also means nurse in hebrew. Beit xolim-Krankenhaus also follows this linguistic logic, in which reflects the Ashkenazi influence.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing that! I'm really into etymology and linguistic history, and through that I can say that it's probably the other way around. So much of the German language comes from Hebrew. You could definitely be right, though, there is so much shared history that it wouldn't be surpising either way. Hope you are well and having a joyful week! Shalom from Atlanta
