Mark is very well known in the gospel music community. He has MS and that's why he's having to sit down during this performance. He's a very talented musician as well as a comedian. Kate Lott is the soprano with the very high notes.
I heard Mark say on one of his You Tube episodes “Just Whenever” that he was tested once for MS but did not have it. He still travels a lot doing concerts.
Mark being the 1 who wrote the song. Sang it in context of how he wrote it. Simply having a conversation with Mary (if he could). Most who cover this song Sing as an exclamation. Not Mark He sang it asking questions and thats what makes his versions different.
Mark has been a pastor, a comedian, a poet, a lyricist, and a singer. With Voctave providing the backing vocals and the lyrics as should always be, it makes this so ethereal, angelic and heavenly. I was fortunate enough to go to their concert (1 night only) in January 2 yrs ago. Their voices are incredible and their concert was varied, sometimes really funny, often lovely and if I had a wish, everyone would be able to go and hear what I heard.
Mark wrote this as a sermon he was giving at a church, where he was the guest speaker. The question to all was, "If you had a cup of coffee with Mary, what would you want to know?" Many years later, on the Gaither tour bus, he had Buddy Green write the music.
Loved your reaction. Mark Lowry is definitely a treasure. He has been a member of a group known as the Gaither Vocal Band for many many years. Bill Gaither and his wife Gloria are living Legendary song writers in the Southern Gosple genre. I say this without hesitation. Mark is used to singing with incredible vocalists all the time. Voctave is in my opinion levels above most of tge mainstream, and this version is in my Top 3. All 3 involve Mark as lead but number one will never be seen on any video. I saw the Gaither Vocal Band in Charlotte NC. Mark, David Phelps, and Guy Penrod sang the song and when they hit that praises of tge lamb, a snow shower of dust shook from the rafters and showered down on the audience. Number 3 is also Mark David and Guy on the video Gaither Hawaiian Homecoming. It was done outside at night around a bonfire. That would be a good one for you to see but if you are tired of Mary Did You Know, try Mark David, Guy, and Michael English singing House of Gold. Gaither's Harmony in the Heartland. Cheers
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I love how Mark explained this song to someone. He said something like: If I could have a cup of coffee and a chat with Mary, this is what I would ask her. 😊
Awesome song and awesome reaction!!!!! LOVE to see it when it touches your SOUL - which clearly this song did! Thank you for allowing us to see that! What a blessing!!!! It touches my soul EVERY TIME I LISTEN to it!!!!!! 🙌🏼
This is the one and only version of this song that should ever be played. All others fail to live up to this version. That being said, I'd love see Kate join Voiceplay for a collaboration. Imagine Kate up there on an E6 while Geoff is in the basement doing a G1. Geoff's Carol of the Bells was incredible.
There are many very commendable covers of this song and it's nice to hear different interpretations but this one has always been the one against which all others are measured.
Tiffany is the tall blonde on the far left in black that's hitting the crazy high notes. She was an understudy/back up vocal to the incomparable Sandi Patty!!!!!
Great reaction, DJ! IMHO this is the BEST version hands down, and arranged to perfection with Mark’s heavenly interpretation, as only the author of the lyrics could do. #Voctave are not just singing a moving Christmas song, they are worshipping the Son of God with awe and reverence and for me that is the difference maker. I really like the other versions but this is as close to perfection that we’re going to get this side of Heaven. The layering and dynamics are vocal mastery and send chills every time!
Incredible performance. To hear Mark sing his own song is a treat. Nice reaction. Grazie Buon Natale 🎄 Mark being interviewed about his song ua-cam.com/video/smt3kkHHNO0/v-deo.html

No one sings this song like Mark. And THAT note by Mark: 25 beats... seated and with MS. Incredible breath control! Tears. Every time.
AND his breath supporting that note was taken even before. “The praises of the (lamb)….”
@Pilot545 ... Yes! I included those beats in my counts.
@@par500dragon7 I got curious and timed it. From the point where he starts the phrase to the end of the note, 20 seconds. 🤯

The covers, as wonderful as most of them are, are performances. This is a testimony.

I can't not cry when I listen to this version of this song. Mark and Voctave are phenomenal! Thank you for your reaction!
And don’t forget, Mark’s breath for that note started well before that note. It started with “…The praises of the (lamb)….” Incredible!
Kate. Kate, Kate, Kate. KATE! Kate. Swallow the damned moon, Kate. That's where her voice is orbiting.
The best version by far ❤
Yes🙌
For me this is the best version. Glad that you checked it out!!
I fully agree 🎉
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I love how Mark explained this song to someone. He said something like: If I could have a cup of coffee and a chat with Mary, this is what I would ask her. 😊
And his comedic side said he had more questions but they didn’t rhyme 😂

Her name is Kate Lott, the high soprano. And she has such a perfect control
Still so dang pretty...love Voctave so so much!
Thank you for releasing this one DJ! It's so much work that you put in and it is appreciated!

I agree, stunning, breathtaking, perfection! 💜💜💜
Mark is also an ordained minister, I believe, and is pretty well known as a comedian. He tells really funny stories on stage!
Tiffany is the tall blonde on the far left in black that's hitting the crazy high notes. She was an understudy/back up vocal to the incomparable Sandi Patty!!!!!
Wonderful - all of them, and especially Mark almost embodies this song. 🎶
