Dan, it looks like you're driving a MK2 Focus, they suffer from dodgy instrument clusters, the immobiliser runs through it and cause the car not to start, trying giving the top of the dash a gentle whack and it should come back to life.

Plus if you need a uk adapter then major train stations or airports might be the best place to look.
