Godzilla: Save the Earth was suppose to be a much bigger game. Atari pushed Pipeworks to rush the game so that it would be released in late 2004 to commemorate Godzilla's 50th anniversary. If Save the Earth was released in 2005 instead, it would've been a better game with more content.
I do remember seeing a lot of concept art for different levels that were cut in the game like this, as well as the arctic level and possibly the level with Rodan flying through a canyon that was probably an on rails shooter mini game like with Godzilla and Moguera.
From what I heard, originally, you were supposed to fight all the monsters as you climb up Mount Fuji to fight Space Godzilla. *Godzilla STE had more potential than Sonic 06 confirmed*
I like to imagine that in the open world intention for it, this stage was connected to the Tokyo one, seeing as how massive the out of borders areas are.
It's a real shame that Save The Earth had so much content cut from it. Granted, I did genuinley enjoy playing it back in the day, but if Pipeworks weren't forced to rush the game and all the cut conent remained, it could have been one of the best games on the PS2 and Xbox.
The stage is so big but then again I do remember strange saying that for the final segment of the cut story mode you would’ve had to of faced all the monsters here before going to space Godzilla.
Well, They where being forced by atari to force the game out to coincide with Godzilla final wars. It would have been one of the greatest fighting games of all time and almost definitely the greatest Godzilla game of all time.
Save the Earth was supposed to have a much grander story & its a shame the game never got it, a good game needs a good story. So, this video has inspired me the idea to write the story, a fan-work (Like an actual book) of the story, with all the original ideas intact coupled with a few of my own to fill in the gaps - It'd start on Monster Island & end on Mt. Fuji fighting SpaceGodzilla as it does here. Perhaps after we can look at Save the Earth differently, seeing how much a masterpiece it was supposed to be. *Disclaimer:* I'm not an expert writer; I got a good grade in English Literature & that's all(😂) & if I do complete it, I won't publish it as if to make money off it (That's illegal!). I'll post it on online forums that is free to read (If I do complete it, I'll come back here & let you know which ones :D).
Now that true ending cutscene after the fight against SpaceGodzilla in story mode hard mode using Godzilla 2000 would've made more sense if this Mount Fuji stage wasn't cut in the first place.
Hmm, no wonder the ending had SpaceGodizlla being sucked in a black hole in a canyon although they didn't actually fight in the canyon. So maybe this is where they fought but was cut.
I think this level and it’s premise is inspired by Final Wars‘Godzilla vs Angirus, Rodan, and King Ceaser’ scene, which I believe was also at Mt. Fuji.
The fact that godzilla 1990s was so strong that he single handedly beat king ghedorah. Godzilla 1990s, rodan 1990s and mothra 1990s would just utterly destroy king ghedorah.
Nothing for that stage seems to exist on the kit. I guess it was just concept art (it does look like an in-game screenshot, but I feel like those were GDAMM models similar to the Fuji image that uses them and that looks nothing like the actual stage itself...) or all evidence of its existence was wiped off the kit due to the subsequent developers who used it. Or it's labeled with some weird name that makes it unrecognizable. It's a real shame though as I really wanted to play on that stage (as well as the Carnival stage, but that one actually does exist on the kit, so maybe it's just a matter of time until we see that one).
"Lava does not hurt you on this stage." Or Godzilla is just naturally, highly-resistant to extremely intense heat. Since, y'know, he DID jumped into a volcano and reemerged from it just fine.
It makes sense canonically, but at least in GDAMM and GU, lava is capable of damaging Godzilla. I don't recall if this holds true in GSTE's version of Monster Island though.
I'm not DylanRocket, but I can answer this somewhat. Unfortunately, we don't have much to go off of, aside from a few pieces we attained from interviews, in-game files, and the game itself. The game's campaign intro has the Vortaak mention their plan to aquire G-Cells (Godzilla's DNA) in order to create "the ultimate monster". Seeing as SpaceGodzilla was intended to be the final boss, it's a bit obvious to connect the dots We also have traces of a potential protagonist named "Suki". In the game's files, we here audio of an unknown character mention this character by name when referring to some sort of "orbit distruption device." We also see the name Suki in dialogue boxes in Moguera's asteroid field challenge in the final game. An interview with Simon Strange also told us the final stage would have been you marching up Mt Fuji, fighting each monster, until you finally reach SpaceGodzilla. This stage seems pretty evident to be the location he was talking about.
Here's a comment I posted earlier with some information I found on the debug kit: "I was looking through the files, and I'm not sure how many of them are actually challenges rather than story missions (there's little to distinguish between the two), but I know for sure that there was a mission called "Escape" in which you'd escape Monster Island by destroying shield generators and fighting off UFOs. They kind of reused this concept for Godzilla: Unleashed. Mission 10 had you fight both Mecha-Ghidorah and Destoroyah. The mission would also warn you to "Hurry! Defuse all Vorillium Accelerators by exposing them to saltwater", but I only have a partial script, so I don't know what the purpose of these Vorillium Accelerators was. The final mission would take place on Mt. Fuji. SpaceGodzilla would be at the top, and Godzilla would have to fight his way to him. Along the way, there would be rock barriers that would either have to be broken or would break as part of a story sequence. He'd fight Mecha-Ghidorah and his replicator from the challenge mission as well as Rodan and Baragon (and probably more characters too, but these are the ones specifically named). There would be two short-cuts. The first one had the bonus of reducing Rodan and Baragon's health. The second one would destroy some rock wall (possibly the aforementioned rock barrier). The rest of the missions I'll have to look through and see if I can determine for sure whether they're story missions or challenges. There's files for missions 1 and 2, but both were overwritten unfortunately. Maybe with some luck, the data may still exist on the kit and was merely fragmented."
@@bumuman Unfortunately, I did not. Simon Strange had this to say about it: "We did originally plan for one, but it was cut before we ever even did preliminary work on it."
I believe that concept art was photoshopped by the developers using either a photo of Mount Fuji and some models from GDAMM. They did a similar thing with the Las Vegas concept art and the one where Godzilla is about to throw a ship at Gigan in what looks like Osaka from GDAMM. The Carnival/Jet Jaguar statue concept art is an actual in-game render though.
If I had to piece together from the crapped content from this game & unleashed I think I get a general idea what was to happen for both games: like you said before godzilla would have to fight wave after wave of the roster in game making his way to space Godzilla but upon reaching the gates to the space g boss fight you would have to fight crystal towers that vanguard the entrance to make your way in, upon defeating them you would go further into the stage where you would enter the center of the mountains map caged in by space with space himself flying in monster x style into the ring where you would then have to defeat him in a brawl, upon defeating him he would then fly up & start launching either crystals or boulders at you with you either needing to destroy them with your beam or use the boulders to to stop him from launching his projectiles in a attempt to knock him back down which would then repeat the battle ring style fight where upon defeating him once again he would retreat to a different area (the canyon we see in the cutscene at the end of the game) where Godzilla & space would have one final showdown & finally being the official defeat upon then would the cutscene play out if you win all those battles
Hmm. I guess the only thing else I can ask is that if this game did get an official remaster, does Atari or pipeworks still have the files? Or even the source code? I guess it doesn't matter, since STEM is doing Godilla's work, and there will probably never be an official remaster from Toho or atari
I think Pipeworks probably still has the source code/assets (although, it's possible they don't have the assets for the intro and ending cutscenes since those were outsourced to another studio - apparently called Attitude Studios?). But yeah, it seems like an official remaster is never happening
@@DylanRocket I would imagine they still have some assets from the opening cutscene since there were some renders in the credits. They might have just kept them?
It wouldn't load without a skybox due to the way the game engine works. The bundle containing Mt. Fuji's skybox was overwritten on the devkit, but you can just barely see what it looked like in the upper right corner of this screenshot: ua-cam.com/users/postUgy-AE4caXBus-8ecgR4AaABCQ The other maps I've done videos on also use Monster Island's skybox, but the actual skybox for those maps does exist and was ported from one of the DAMM stages IIRC. A minor, albeit obvious, correction: You would fight 2-3 characters at a time, not 4. I accidentally counted Godzilla with the other three.

Thats why the cut scene is spacegodzilla in a pit and why he is in the end cut scene cool
So it’s similar to survival mode where you have to face every single monster.
