But they kept cutting their interest rates until I was making less than $10 a year in interest on accounts that had well over $100k. Then they cut out all the perks that came with having that much money with them. Then they put holds on deposits & when I tried to withdraw money to get a new car they said “No”. Claimed they couldn’t authorize withdrawals more than $15k. I said find & tried to make several smaller withdrawals & they said I couldn’t make more than 2 withdrawals in a 24 hour period on business days. In other words, they refused to give me MY money. Chase is DESPERATE to get out of consumer banking; they've SOLD OFF all the furniture (that customers used to sit on) in the branch banks, and if you need to talk to a MORTGAGE person, you'll have to travel to the branch they're AT THAT DAY, or schedule an appointment so you can talk to them. Calling Chaser on the phone is an absolute impossibility.
3 on your side, thank you for helping this very bright and hard working young lady. This is ridiculous! Chase should be ashamed of themselves! Chase should have paid interest on the money that they held hostage. I hope they closed the Chase account and moved it to a different credit union or a place that actually cares about their account holders.
If it's money on your bank account, it actually belongs to the bank! This is international. True for every bank on the planet. This is why common people can't ask for interest on withheld money. It's not actually yours until you hold it in your own two hands! The bank account is just a contract between you and the bank holding the bank "accountable" to paying you an agreed upon sum. But since the money is theirs, they won't pay interest to themselves. THEY can actually charge YOU for holding up THEIR money! All the money is theirs until they pay it out to you in cash!
I would sue them for more than that. She could have reinvested that money into her business and at least tripled it. Chase also robbed her of compounding profit she could have made.
Way to go Kinley!!! You got this girl! Onward and upward! Mom and Dad, thanks for fighting for her and supporting her! You have one heck of a daughter there! ❤
This is what news channels use to do back in the day. The news regulated big powerful corps that took advantage of powerless individuals by investigating and making their practices public. People today don't understand what journalism got started out for. Glad to see it still alive somewhere.👍🏼
What? I don't know if this is how things are done in the US. No mention was made of any process failings, or how they would be repaired. Chase just paid it out because of bad press. So when this happens over and over again it won't get fixed because nothing has changed. Terrible journalism avoids the core problem.
Ikr? Like, write her two checks so the amount is under $2k so that the phone # doesn't need to be confirmed. Or change the # and write another check, or just open a new account and transfer the funds, then write another check. Or just close the account, open a new account at another bank, then write the check. But they shouldn't be given that runaround at all.
Because the amount was already taken out of the guy's account. Chase will start the transfer process before verifying, but will keep the money if they later deem it to be suspicious. The news story should have emphasized that. All Chase had to do was call the bank on the check's routing number to verify who was on the account.
Chase is doing what the government does with asset forfeiture. That’s the new way to steal people’s money. Since banks are no longer regulated and barely answer to any authority, they can get away with this behavior and the government probably gets its cut of the action.
People love to slam the media but it's all we have now if we continue to dissolve unions. Do you think corporations treat employees well because they are nice? No its the PR.

Time to boycott Chase Bank!
Been doing that for years. It's really easy to not do business with people who hate you.
They care. They really do.

AWESOME how the girl raises chickens. And I admire the family's persistence in helping her get her money!!
How are 6 chickens worth $2100 ?
Edit : I understand inflation is crazy right now but I can buy a whole chicken at Costco for like $7 fully cooked
Because they produce eggs and more chickens when they are alive vs cooked LOL
Lmao
I don't really know what farm chickens cost, but I think it was more of a fundraising event than a real farmers market. 350 per chicken just sounds absurd for a farm chicken
@@la6136 Lmao all the guy had to do was actually try to rub some braincells together and he would have arrived at this answer.
@@01gtbdaily30 a chicken is good for more than just eating man lmao
Dear Kinley, your chickens look great, and that is a darn good business, so keep it up. Please don't forget to bill the bank for accrued interest on your $2100; I am very serious. Write the head guy for banking (probably in Washington), and ask that he direct Chase to pay the accrued interest. Don't let them get away with stealing your interest. (cheers from Alberta, Canada).
@@kmilton1593 how much interest is that? probably only pennies.
.01% yeah maybe 3$

If SHE owed Chase, they would charge her interest plus prime! Banking with Chase is like playing poker with the Devil and letting him deal.
I'm going to borrow that expression, tho not specifically about chase bank. Thank you! 👍😊
A friend of mine had a savings account he hadn't touched, the bank (forget which one) started charging an "inactive account" fee without telling him, and drained his account dry. But they did notify him when his account was overdrawn because of the fees. They very generously agreed to raise his balance to zero and close the account.
@MarkStockman-b4j The same thing happened to me a few years ago at TD / Toronto Dominion bank in canada.
They don't have to tell you when they change their rules, policies, terms.
They stole $60 from me (account inactive for 5 months and 1 week at $10 charge per month or portion of a month). No recourse. They investigated themselves and found themselves faultless and blameless. 😬
What great parenting. A ten year old entrepreneur being taught how to take care of herself and future family !❤❤❤
Sure, big banks should go after hard working 10-YO girls. Excellent PR move. What kind of bank manager sees this and does not put the whole place on high alert until it is solved. Really, this is on par with a fire in the vault.
Banks should be criminally charged when they do things like this.
Yep, at some point it becomes conversion, becomes theft.
Absolutely.
Courts (if your not subject to arbitration clause in the account agreement) or get regulators like the OCC seeing they are a national bank (depending on the form of the bank - which they can change - the banks have the choice on bank side of four regulators).
It's called predatory and Trump will be putting his cronies in positions that will allow rollbacks of regulations that would protect people from something like this sadly we're going to be seeing a lot of predatory behavior from corporations and banks
That little girl is adorable. I'm glad she finally got the money that she worked so hard for.
Where is the interest that Chase earned over that year on her money?
Exactly!
And/or inflation.
Inflation got it at 3.5 percent.
That would give her 73.05 extra.
@@NextNate03 That would further hurt her by taking away from her money by reducing her buying power, but that does not get added on to the judgement like interest does.
@@NextNate03that was her cash so they should pay at the cash advance rate of 30%.
That money never left the other bank, Chase rejected the check
Best journalism ever!!
What a great story. You are exactly what the media should be about. You inform and bring the truth to light; Chase needed to own up to their mistake, and you all helped them to see that.
My grandmother had a great distrust for banks. I thought she was crazy. Here, it is apparent the bank processed the check because they didn’t give her the original back, they gave her money back in a different check-they had her money! Grandma was right!
Yep, and they were steadily making money using her money....for a year. They wouldn't have ever given back that money if the story hadn't gone to the news.
sounds like they took money from the guy that wrote the check then called the check fake and took the money for themselves
The regulatory board should do an audit of that check to see when Chase got their money. If they got their money earlier, someone needs to be charged.
He is a credit to journalism. Thank you.
Credit or debit? 🤣

Chase, fantastic advertisement for your bank, and it didn't cost you a dime! Good job.
Chase Bank. A big fat Nope!
Such an amazing kid! Glad she learned early to speak up! I wish her much luck.
Come on Chase you have a really bad reputation as it is. This really makes you look stupid. You owe her the interest!
They only did it because they don't want the bad publicity
they don't, look I get it, it was wrong, but they didn't hold onto the money, she couldn''t deposit it
@@redakdal
If you enquired with the writers of the cheque I'd bet that the $2103.00 left THEIR account and went into Chase bank's account.
Then Chase bank said "We have the money but you're not getting it until the dead person answers the phone".
So yes Chase had the money.
Chase just refused to deposit it in the girls' bank account...which they then promptly closed.
So now no account and no money...until they got bad publicity and their slimy rock got turned over.
They should have added interest as well.....
@mikef8211
too late now, they have it
They're too big to care.
I love the story. Sorry about the stupidity of the bank, but I'm super happy about her motivation and good cause. That kid is going places!! Good job parents!
What a scummy bank, they couldn't even give her a little extra for all the year that they gave her the run around.
What a shame: A bank stealing the money of a ten year old child.
What a fantastic kid.Keep up the great work girl. You show the best side of America....
So happy she finally got her money back, she’s deserves to get it back plus interest.
Thanks for helping that sweet little girl!
Thank those involved at ‘On Your Side’ for representing Kinley ! 👍 Definitely would not do business with Chase any longer, the credit unions are a much better option in my opinion. Love the business energy Kinley has, with the support of great parents ! 👍💝💝💝
Definitely CREDIT UNIONS
Moral of the story.... don't bank with Chase, close you accounts/credit cards with them, boycott their bank and watch them having to sell or close. I've heard tons of similar stories with this crap bank and want to see the owners/shareholders lose as much as humanly possible.
Well Fargo is at the top of the corrupted banks.
Bank of America is no different. They welcome illegals to open a account!
I have that bank n o problems and not taking your asinine advice
@@carolaguilera6911 It's a free country and you're aloowed to do business with whomever you want to. I had a Chase account for years. After they made too many mistakes in their own favor, I closed it. I now bank through a credit union (NFCU) and a more local bank. You do what works for you, but it won't work for everyone.
@carolaguilera6911 Nice. Defending corporate greed that steals money from children because it benefits you. No thought to the child that had her money illegally held for a year & most likely wouldn’t have gotten it back at all if the news station hadn’t gotten involved. The heII with her, right? As long as you get yours that little girl can kick rocks.
I banked at Chase. Had quite a bit of money with them for over 15 years. Money I earned by sacrificing my time & labor. I said I was contacting a lawyer & going on social media & letting everyone know Chase Bank wouldn’t let people access their own money. A week later, after numerous phone calls with the lawyer & several upset customers who I told my story they cut me a cashiers check for the full amount of my accounts because I closed them & switched banks.
So stay with them if you want but just know they’ll get around to scamming you eventually. If they have no qualms about stealing money from a child or withholding money from a long term customer they won’t think twice about screwing you over when your time comes.
Go to credit unions don't do banks!! Especially chase, Wells Fargo or US bank!
Thank you so much for helping this family! ❤

why isn't the simple solution to cancel the check and write a new one? the question i have is who spends $2,000 on 6 chickens? that isn't teaching any life lessons other than setting up future failures of wow growing chickens is super profitable until you aren't a cute 10yo.
Sad that Chase Bank needed to be put on blast to do the right thing.
Poor form, Chase. Poor form.
What a wonderful young enterprising girl, and super supportive family. Thank you On Your Side for helping resolve this issue.
Why did it take Embarrassing Chase bank for the girl to get her money. Chase has a history of doing things like this & is loosing customers
The bank held onto $2100 for a year; I'd be demanding the year's interest on that amount.
I would hold the Bank at a whooping interest it would be in the infinity percentile range
Thank You for helping this family. 🎉
This is what news channels use to do back in the day. The news regulated big powerful corps that took advantage of powerless individuals by investigating and making their practices public. People today don't understand what journalism got started out for. Glad to see it still alive somewhere.👍🏼
Thank you. Good for that family and thanks for helping them.
Eggcellent! That guy from KPHO didn't cluck around and got her money back toot sweet. 😀

Process the check and see if it clears.... takes only a few days. What the heck?
Chase Bank: What a surprise. NOT!!
To bad
Exactly. Not a surprise at all. Chase is just evil
This is what journalism is. Good job to all those involved in this story.
What? I don't know if this is how things are done in the US. No mention was made of any process failings, or how they would be repaired. Chase just paid it out because of bad press. So when this happens over and over again it won't get fixed because nothing has changed.
Terrible journalism avoids the core problem.
Kudos to Kinley for her dedication and devotion. You raised an incredible daughter! Great job Mom and Gad!
As many have said, interest is definitely owed. After all, for that year the bank held the money, they made interest on it. It shouldn't be let go.
Thank goodness for the power of the news!! Thank you to On Your Side!!!!
Why didnt the guy just send a different check? I would also move banks. Management needs to be looked in to.
Yeah, he should have just cancled the check and gave the girl the money
@@radolfkalis4041it was already taken from his account. Chase had the money

Thanks to the news for showing this.
Similar experience here. Run when you see a Chase sign, just run away.
100%
Chase: the check we cashed for you is suspicious so we're keeping the funds.
Chase is doing what the government does with asset forfeiture. That’s the new way to steal people’s money. Since banks are no longer regulated and barely answer to any authority, they can get away with this behavior and the government probably gets its cut of the action.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Right-!? I’d like to see if the guy had been charged that 2,100.
