  • The Babylonian Exile was a dark time for the Israelites. Jeff Cavins chose the color for this time period in the Bible Timeline because of the "blues" that the Jews were experiencing in exile, distant from God's presence in the Holy Temple. In this episode, Fr. Joseph Taphorn joins Jeff Cavins to explore the various ways in which modern Catholics may find themselves or their loved ones in a state of spiritual exile. Whether grappling with addiction, seeking deliverance and healing, or confronting the challenges of children straying from the Faith, Fr. Taphorn and Jeff Cavins offer timeless insights and practical guidance to help us navigate these trials and reclaim our role as ambassadors of Christ.
Fr. Joseph Taphorn was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1997. After serving as a parish priest, he went on to study canon law at the Gregorian University in Rome and served in various leadership roles in the curia of the Archdiocese of Omaha for 15 years. Fr. Taphorn founded the St. John Paul II Newman Center in Omaha and served there for several years before accepting the invitation to serve as rector of The Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN in 2019.

Jeff Cavins is amazing in his evangelization. He along with many others are delivering the message of Christ in a whole new way that didn’t exist in the Catholic Church for decades…I’ve felt over the last 5 years that I’m learning about a different type of Christianity than what I grew up with…and I grew up Catholic. Maybe it was partly due to my lack of desire, understanding, etc…but this message of Christ is awesome. It’s beautiful.

My "Come to Jesus" moment was during my first Bible in a Year journey with Fr. Mike Schmitz and Jeff Cavins. In the introduction of the first messianic checkpoint, Jeff Cavins said God is still God even after i've messed things up and this freedom that Jesus offers is not just a concept but something that i can experience for myself. I was at my lowest point and from exile, it was Jeff's voice, carrying God's Word that brought me home. I will ALWAYS praise God for that. may your ministry win more souls back. ❤❤❤

Praise the Lord that new priests are being trained in the power of the Holy Spirit so are open to the Spirit's power of healing, wisdom, everything! I am 72 years old and have only rarely encountered a parish priest open to praying over someone outside of the elderly and the Sacrament of the Sick. The new priests will be more open to the power of the Holy Spirit in all the Sacraments and practices of Catholicism! Such a wonderful gift and so very needed at this time in our Church and world. Thank you for your ministry!

How nice it would be if Catholics were willing to share Christ with others, in obedience to the Great Commission Jesus gave to all disciples (including us)! Most Catholics are unwilling to even talk about religion with me when I bring up the subject, and they react like I'm a two-headed monster for being so bold; they seem to feel that religion is a taboo subject one does not discuss. But then there are a few Catholics who are happy to share their faith, but all they want to talk about is how one needs to be Catholic; they share Catholicism instead of sharing Jesus Christ! The priests need to foster a new mindset by teaching in their homilies that it's all about Jesus and His propitiation on the cross for the restoration of peace between God and man. The Church didn't die for our sins, and neither did any pope. We need to share the message of the message of God's incredibly deep love for us, so deep that He came to earth as a man, suffered horribly and gave His mortal life to pay our debt of sin, and then rose from the dead to prove that we also may rise to new life in Him.

I like " you need to meet Jesus, He's the answer ". Pray with the person right away. Let the Holy Spirit into the situation to bring the person to Jesus.
Im inspired to do this. Catholics generally are not good with spontaneous praying. We need to improve on this.
    Thankyou for this session.

Forgot to mention that the only place I've encountered priests willing to pray over parishoners/individuals has been at Charismatic prayer groups, retreats and Cursillo encounter meetings, retreats. I am so very grateful that the Holy Spirit led me to the Charismatic Renewal prayer groups. That was the first time I ever heard about the Holy Spirit still working in our lives! Very grateful for the years in prayer groups. Again I'm grateful for your ministry.

I sometimes think that some people MUST go into exile and taste life without sacraments or Christ himself, so they experience how empty life is and appreciate “a second chance.” A most powerful testimony is Peter denying Christ 3 times, and still being forgiven. What could have been a greater betrayal or example of human cowardice? We should never give up on anyone. Ultimately, what really matters is what happens at the moment of death; a lesson from Brideshead Revisited.

All of this is so true. I just dont have the words to introduce people to Christ. I wouldn't know what to say. It sounds stupid, but Jesus introduced himself to me. No one introduced me to him. So please do a video to help people like me do that. What did you say to those catholics that you led away from the faith. You started to tell us, but then you stopped

I've found the best way is by example. Live a beautiful, joyful life in the Lord. Don't speak negative, complain, gossip, etc. And in times of suffering, be a light to the world. People notice. It's a gradual thing. They might ask a question or two.
If they do something well, compliment their virtues, quote scripture, etc.

"dont worry about what you will say. The holy Spirit will tell you what to say". (Jesus says that)
Just ask Jesus for what to say.
You would have received if you had just asked. U don't receieve because u don't ask (look those words up, they're from Paul)

Theres a cave in because we've lost touch with the neighborhood that our grandparents were involved with. We don't live their faith, practice or oath. However, this is a community outside if church, too. And since the church is root to court, we have to find our right social network fit this way. First as a family, second as individuals because that's the way this machine's parts work.
When we're seated in the right fit, we won't be treated to upsets over the illusion of owing our disobedience.
This is the ground level & front gate of the www, but, you have other churches nearby.
It's necer been a good place for building wealth down here. If you can change that, I'm sure you'll pull in alot of fans. If not They'll ~ the darker underlords ~ will send me to visit you.
If you fontbibey my unckes neices, your disobedience will shun the fans up there, and you can pay off all these things hanging around.
    We're mostly preseniors.

Well, I was raised Roman Catholic attended Catholic schools went to mass every Sunday was baptized first communion and confirmation.
When I got into my early 20s, I started having doubts about the faith, many unanswered questions that I was told not to ask do not question the word of God .
Going to church was very regimental. You learned the responses off by heart and you were to say them out loud whether you believed in them or not.
I left the Catholic faith when I was 28 years old and news of priests, abusing young children starting to pour in along with the millions of dollars that was paid out to families and the cover-up to the highest level.
I'm 60 years old now and have been free of religion for the past 35 years . sadly, I still read about the continued abuse by Catholic priests I find it sickening it is an organization. Very disturbing.

U need to read Peter kreeft asap. "Handbook christian apologetics," "Jesus shock," "prayer for beginners," "socratic logic," "Phil of Jesus."
Hes the greatest teacher I've ever had. Made the faith reasonable, almost commonsensical.
I'm sorry about the way my sins have hurt you, but u need to come back to church. Jesus will always send solid priests ur way if u just ask

This is a broken world. You will find abuse in all organizations. The Catholic Church is a target because it is so big. Statistically though, abuse by secular teachers and of the Protestant denominations are much higher than the Catholic Church. I'm not excusing the abuse. I came into the church in the midst of the scandals. If you are always focusing on the negative, your life will never appreciate the gift of Christ in the Church.
