How to Play the Synth Parts of Jump by Van Halen

  • A reconstruction of the synth brass and the synth strings of the song. The synths were extracted from the original audio, analyzed, and then played back. The original synths are inaudible in this rendition.

    One of the best synth masterpieces of all times ...this is the pop version of Per Elisa/Fur Elise/For Elise of Beethoven because it seems easy with the main motive but then enter two bridges and then the arpeggios that change the piece in a VERY difficult way!

    Spectacular performance-By far the most accurate and complete on UA-cam. Nothing sounds quite like a real Oberheim though!

      jacobbrashears Eddie doesn't sound like Eddie since he bagged his brown sound, so, par for the course. ;)

    Outstanding Job! I played this in a cover band in the 80's while this was in the top 40 and you've nailed it. I put a ton of work into getting the solo correct and your the only person I've heard get it right. Well done.

    Man, I believe you played that synth solo EXACTLY right, according to my own analysis! I worked on it for a long time and got it very close but you even nailed the places where I think Eddie made a mistake or three in the 16th note triplet part! (On second viewing, I noticed you mentioned this yourself.) And the end or that section of the solo where it goes from a 16th note triplet to a series of six straight 16th notes followed by six 8th note triplets is as I hear it too, but found that many of the UA-cam teaching videos got it wrong. I was looking for someone whom I thought got it right (at least according to my analysis.) You did. Nice work!

      Thanks! With the Guitar Hero Van Halen tracks, I was able to pretty much separate the solo from the rest of the instruments, and then I just slowed it down a lot. BTW, to me, the key point for learning the fast arpeggio is to notice the breaks in it, and then learn each sub-phrase separately.

    • @hectorlozoya8602
      @hectorlozoya8602 7 років тому +1

      Pretty much how you would do it for a complex fast guitar solo. I guess it's a showcase of Eddie's guitar player mentality, I'm sure Eddie was probably imagining himself tapping his guitar for this solo lol

  • @DJFLDJFL

    I must've watched this solo 100 times now. Slowing it down to 50% then 75% really helps. Thanks for making the vid how you did, with your fingering so clear!

    Really impressive. I need to learn this for the cover band I play in. There's lots of "how-to" for this song on UA-cam. Yours is the best, so I'll be studying it for awhile (I usually play bass, so this will be a challenge). All that said, without a second player to handle the string part on the bridge, what is your recommendation on what to leave in and what to leave out?

    I've been working on getting back into keyboards and I used to play around with this song alot,, I never played the whole thing just enjoyed the main riff, But after watching this and my good ol' ear that hasn't lost its touch I can tell you that as far as I'm concerned, If you enjoy the voicing structure you utilized in the parts that were hard to pick out then thats all that matters.. I noticed that when you walk down on the main rift you used 2 versions of F then went to I believe a Csus2 I didn't play it that way but your way is the correct way,,, I will be studying this video for my own reference as I would like to play it more correctly but could never focus on the song because I was too busy enjoying the damn thing LOL hopefully I can disiplin myself enough to not get lost in the songs I enjoy and can work on playing them LOL ---- you might want to try and add a little chorus ( slow rotating not fast for that matter I also try and add a pinch of detune when I'm on the right keyboard ) to the synth sound to give it more depth, no rev just chorus let me know what you think----

    This song is so much fun to play on Synth I love the cord progression! I’m actually a drummer not a synth player just teach myself a bunch of different instruments but drums is my main!
    I can’t get used to taping the keys with my left hand cuz I tap the hi hats with my right it’s soooo backwards LOL!
