Huey is usually the voice of reason in this show. This series has not aged one bit and it still very relevant today.

Just for context, the general public has completely turned on R Kelly and he did go to prison, but this was all very recently. Before that, there were decades of R Kelly doing inappropriate things with underage girls going all the way back to the 90's. This includes secretly marrying another singer (Aaliayah) when she was only 15 and he was 27. The incident discussed in this episode was mostly real. In the early 2000's, there was a leaked tape of him having sex with and peeing on an underage girl, and he went to trial over it. And just like in the episode, I believe he was found not guilty (I can't quite remember). Some people soured on him for a bit, a lot of people made jokes, but that was the worst of it. After awhile, it got swept back under the rug like every other incident.
It wasn't until the 2020 documentary "Surviving R Kelly" detailed the scope and frequency of his sexual relationships with minors that the public finally took his behavior with the seriousness it deserves. And in 2023, he was actually sentenced to prison. But that's, again, after decades of him escaping punishment and taking advantage of young girls with impunity.

funnily enough I actually saw that video of him referenced in this episode when I was in like middle school lol my older brothers girlfriend showed it to me lol everyone legit blamed the girl irl too... so yeah this episode was very inline with reality at the time.

@@jbriggs06 First and foremost, RIP JDF. Second, yeeeah. I first heard about it from Chappelle's Show. I was in elementary school, so the idea of anyone getting pee'd on was just funny to me. I didn't actually see the tape until I was a teenager. And weirdly enough, it was just easily accessible on the regular internet. Like, on mainstream porn websites. And apparently it was getting sold in barbershops and talked about everywhere. A piece of literal CP was apart the zeitgeist for a few years and no one felt weird about it. That's crazy to think about.
@MergatroidS Yeah, that's why it's kinda hard to respect the older generations. They just let that slide and didn't take it seriously at all. As a society, they failed so many.

i grew up watching the Boondocks as a white kid in upstate NY and i'm pretty sure i learned most of what i know about black culture from this show.
Thats fucked up!! Go get some friends… this is not the best way to get to know people.

When this show was made people still supporter R kelly. This episode exaggerated it but there was a real video of him doing that to a girl and yet he was found not guilty.

This show definitely does start off slow but after the first three episodes, you’ll be addicted, I promise.

It gets better as it goes!!! This wad a crazy one, but yes R Kelly haf been in trial a few times and somehow didnt get any substantial prison time or anything until more recently. That being said...his music...was pretty good...I cant lie. Hes not a good guy, but he did have some good songs

you are young R Kelly was big in the 90s to 2000s so you might not have heard some of his music? some of the references might be a little dated but the message is still relevant. Robert and ruckus are begrudgingly friendly because they are like 3 of the only black men in Woodcrest and some might think ruckus has a good heart?

Yes, R.Kelly got off on this charge in real life. Because the victim refused to admit that it was her in the video. Allegedly R.Kelly paid the family off. He was finally arrested because of the "Surviving R.Kelly" stuff later on. Also, there is no single main character. Riley and Huey are often looked at as main characters. But the main character is based more on the episode. Mainly, the Freeman family are often the main characters. Riley, Huey and Grandpa.
Also, yes, a lot of people still defend R.Kelly, until this day. I'll admit it, I grew up on R.Kelly. And he has a lot of great music. I still listen to some of his music. But I'll never defend his actions. He deserves to be in jail.
I hope that you keep up with The Boondocks reactions. Yes, you will probably miss a lot of the jokes and cultural references. But that's fine. I don't expect you to catch everything. Either way, you got a subscribe from me.
R. Kelly was convicted in 2022. He was sentenced to 30 years. This episode was in 2005. He got away with what he was doing for a long time. Even though people knew what he was doing since the 1990's. And it wasn't just rumors, he would make recordings of himself and underage girls. But people were willing to overlook his disgusting behavior, because they enjoyed his music.

If I was there I would have said objection on the Ancient Greece part as a very misled statement..one in general it was not okay to have sexual acts with a little girl especially out of wedlock..two it was between a man and a boy and it was not purely a sexual thing its was seen as a form of dominance or power in society and a mentorship if you will for the erastes and eromenos respectively
