I've pretty much read all the mortal instruments series, The Infernal devices series, and the Dark Artifices Series, as well as the Bane Chronicles and The Shadow Hunter Academy. I'm pretty much caught up now. I'm reading the chain of gold The last Hours Series. All series I give 100% recommend ❤
After reading TID I fell in love with Jem Carstairs. I have to emphasize the fact that I have never completely fallen for a fictional character the way I fell for Jem. And the peculiar thing is...others attracted me because of their description and their (be it in my imagination) appearance, but Jem got me with his whole attitude, his words, his gestures, his sweetness...at times I even forgot what he looked like, he was just a grey-haired silhouette dancing in my mind. Which is what first bugs me about this show: I really wanted him to have that grey hair and not just some white strands. But the tragic thing is how his dialogue in the show does him no justice. He seems cold and heartless, showing nothing of that amazing man whose emotions came to the surface whenever he met with old friends(which is what Magnus was to him). I am deeply disappointed and I demand justice for James Carstairs.
As much as I kinda agree with you on a few things (like how he acted in his scene with Magnus) it is said if I remember right that when he joined the silent brothers his hair became his natural colour again just like his eyes. Also he had been with the brotherhood for 180 if I did the math right and even if we know that he never was like a real silent brother he still was one and I don't think we ever saw him show emotions except maybe on really rare occasions like when Will died. I must admit that I was really sad that we didn't get him becoming a mundane but I understand that it's probably because they couldn't finish it like they really wanted to. Also I completely understand when you describe how you fell for Jem cause honestly same.
Sadly idk if that will ever happen because it seems like shows set in the 1800s and before then aren’t as popular as dystopians and shows set in present day. Which is soooo sad. Plus we all know no show could EVER meet our standards for TID. It’s too perfect and I don’t know if any filmmaker could do that series justice

I've never watched this show but I've just finished the infernal devices book trilogy and GOD seeing Jem personified (and invoking Will's name 😭😭) gets me SO EMOTIONAL. Magnus Bane's actor is also so very perfect - love how well he portrays their friendship!!

This is not meant to be hateful, but I am beyond disappointed with this series--and the portrayal of James Carstairs in this show. The show seems cheap and the dialogue tacky. Read the books if you did not, I promise it will present Jem in a spectacular way (especially in comparison with the show).

They did. In the finale jem only had one stripe of white in his hair as opposed to two in the rest of the show. So he must have gotten it somehow because that detail was the one mention in the clockwork Princess epilogue and it was a subtle enough change to sort of appease readers if they spotted it.
I didn’t recognized it when I read this post. I saw he’s had silver gray hair from yin Feng ( or something like that in him ). And I didnt see how streaks he’s has on his hair before this post when you’d mention it.
I've never read the TID series and don't remember much about his appearances in TMI or anything BUT when I heard Magnus mention him to Izzy I was like OMFG!!!!!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 And when it was announced that we would get to see him in 3a I was like OMFG, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! lol
As someone who read TID and absolutely loved it, it's cool to see such a crucial character in this. It feels a little off from how he's portrayed in the books, which is a little sad because people who have only seen the show won't know the real Jem, but it is what it is.

3:25 technically that’s wrong, in the books Magnus has Catarina take a memory away and he threats her to do it by saying that if she doesn’t do it he’ll try to do it him self Catarina caves and does it for him because she knows that pulling memories can be dangerous if preformed on ones self

I finished Clockwork Princess today (for the first time) and I feel like Jem should’ve been left dead. NOT THAT I DONT WANT JEM ALIVE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. But i I feel like it is disrespectful to my poor baby Jem to have to live forever as a Silent brother. {SPOILERS FOR CLOCKWORK PRINCESS RN} that scene when he was saying goodbye to Tessa and telling her that he would meet her on Blackfriar bridge every year made me cry like a baby. Jem should’ve respectfully passed and moved on to a better place, or a next life as he believes. And for the love of all things holy no one deserves to be reborn more than James Carstairs.

From what I've read in the books, especially Ghosts of the Shadow Market, he has almost always been described as asian with black hair that had white streak going through it. And that he was much younger and boyish in appearance than you'd expect any Silent Brother ever. He seems exactly like that in the show. What am I missing? I do know the only difference I can say is that in the books his eyes were also closed, but it's so minor

They did. In the finale jem only had one stripe of white in his hair as opposed to two in the rest of the show. So he must have gotten it somehow because that detail was the one mention in the clockwork Princess epilogue and it was a subtle enough change to sort of appease readers if they spotted it.
I didn’t recognized it when I read this post. I saw he’s had silver gray hair from yin Feng ( or something like that in him ). And I didnt see how streaks he’s has on his hair before this post when you’d mention it.
I've never read the TID series and don't remember much about his appearances in TMI or anything BUT when I heard Magnus mention him to Izzy I was like OMFG!!!!!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

As someone who read TID and absolutely loved it, it's cool to see such a crucial character in this. It feels a little off from how he's portrayed in the books, which is a little sad because people who have only seen the show won't know the real Jem, but it is what it is.

I have literally just finished The Infernal Devices (And the mortal instruments) and everything makes so much more sense. I watched the series before I read the books and I don’t think I can ever watch it the same.

I finished Clockwork Princess today (for the first time) and I feel like Jem should’ve been left dead. NOT THAT I DONT WANT JEM ALIVE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. But i I feel like it is disrespectful to my poor baby Jem to have to live forever as a Silent brother. {SPOILERS FOR CLOCKWORK PRINCESS RN} that scene when he was saying goodbye to Tessa and telling her that he would meet her on Blackfriar bridge every year made me cry like a baby. Jem should’ve respectfully passed and moved on to a better place, or a next life as he believes. And for the love of all things holy no one deserves to be reborn more than James Carstairs.

No ons know it but in the books Brother Zachariah was more than a friend for ( Magnus Bane) , he helped the silent brothers give him the name ( Magnus Bane) which means ( greatness ) 😭💖and raised him after he was orphaned as a child also ( Magnus Bane ) raised and protected (Raphael Santiago)after he was turned from a human teenager into a vampire by a violent vampire who was actually tried to murder him through drinking all of his blood then left him lost in the underworld when he didn't die of his painful blood loss 😭💖

From what I've read in the books, especially Ghosts of the Shadow Market, he has almost always been described as asian with black hair that had white streak going through it. And that he was much younger and boyish in appearance than you'd expect any Silent Brother ever. He seems exactly like that in the show. What am I missing? I do know the only difference I can say is that in the books his eyes were also closed, but it's so minor
