Therefore, they could not teach their children how to swim and further generations could not teach their children how to swim!!! Now the swimming parable can be used metaphorically, symbolically or realistically, but the same way we couldn’t teach future generations how to swim is the same way that we didn’t have access to many other resources now you get it but you can look up the swim statistics to see if I’m correct on it but I know that’s a high number that cannot swim and this is because of Jim Crow laws and Jim Crow laws could be tied to poverty also

      Who is the "we" in your inaccurate statement on "billions of dollars on financial and economic equality since the 1964 Civil Rights Act". None of that money was ever EARMARKED FOR BLACK AMERICANS like it is for Native Americans through the Bureau of Indian Affairs. You are conversing with someone with a PhD in History. Come correct. In fact, are you familiar with Daniel Patrick Moynihan's 1970 White Paper Memorandum calling for a new approach to the American Negro: "Benign Neglect"? The argument was that Black Americans had gained enough through Civil Rights legislation in the 1960s that now the Government should direct its attention to Native Americans, Mexicans, and other minorities. Read it. I can post it for you. Black Americans not immigrants from the Diaspora are entitled to trillions of dollars earmarked solely for THEM. There was no 40 acres and a mule compensation and coming out of slavery Black Americans had no boots, let alone straps while white folks and now migrants are receiving benefits and immunity from prosecution with fanfare and little outcry. #cutthecheck You are standing on a false premise, and you should know better. Civil Rights has no economic platform to address the needs of Black Americans. After you have voted for no one of substance, and gone into white establishments, you are still poor and underpaid. @@rrkunath

    • @anthonyneall
      @anthonyneall 5 місяців тому +3

      It’s not that simple, Malcom X believed in black peoples right to defend themselves in light of the horrific violence we were constantly met with even when we choose the nonviolent route. He believed that we didn’t have to be docile slaves who allow our oppressors to brutalize us with no repercussions but instead that black life was worthy of being preserved and defended “by whatever means necessary”. It is much more complex than simply stating he believed in violence.

    • @AnnoyingAllie3
      @AnnoyingAllie3 5 місяців тому

      @@anthonyneall That's true, he was complicated, and his life story is the reason for his beliefs, but he was a smart man, and definitely was able to see past his beliefs of violent repressions for those who were violent to black people. If you cast out violence, that's all you'll be known for.
      That sounds like I'm fully against X, however it's really disappointing that's all he's known for. He did accomplish a lot, and I really look up to him, but he was very wrong on the topic of resistance to racism and violence. We can achieve his goals for all minorities, especially black people, with something else. Peace

      @@salj.5459 In that case you failed history class. The Civil Rights Movement was a revolution, successful because of the lack of violence. Not only that but the Czech Republic and Slovakia became what they are today because of a non-violent revolution, the Velvet Revolution. There's also the Carnation revolution in Portugal, the end of the Iron Curtain of Europe was also a peaceful revolution, and then there's many many more like revolution in 1980's Phillipines.
      To say that violence is the only way to accomplish change is to ignore the many changes that were made without violence, and it also seems like you believe it's human nature to be violent?
      I know it wound up becoming violent in the long run and afterward, but the Russian Revolution is often called the bloodless revolution because of the lack of death or really anything like that

    Right, because farming was a cakewalk over the last 200 years. I have an idea, instead of a cheque how about farm land, give anyone farmland with a 80 year no sale clause. No one wants to farm and its mechanized now, so good luck with that.
    Everyone benefited from the roads (the civil infrastructure) the water filtration, education, electricity, hospitals. That was built over the past 80 years.
    So the coal miners all got land did they. The lumber jacks cutting the big trees on the east coast all got farms. The irish landing in new york that got chewed up by factory work all got acres.
    It used used to be a job to stand in a pit of coal and shoval it into a giant furnace broiler that was so hot it cooked some layers of skin as you worked 14 hour days, then slept in a crawl space. Look up early steam engines work.
    The fantasy that anyone just got given cash or anything without death defining hard work and even that land was to a minor few of the european immigrants. The rests got to try and survive mining ect.
    So if there is going to be reparations it should be for everyone.

    Thanks for showing this video because this is the radical MLK most Americans had never seen. Many of these appropriation programs were done shortly after WWII to get America back on track financially and get the economy moving for a now growing population. There were no conditions that stated "Black Americans need not apply"...it was open to all, and primarily existing farmers applied since it made most sense. My parents and ancestors weren't aware of this opportunity either because they weren't farmers. Should they have been included ? You needed to qualify for this program as it was not just a land give-a-way for white people only. It was done to provide food for a growing population. Let's get real... putting a racial slant to this is nothing more than an exercise to stir racism. If the intention of this video is to justify reparations, there is not a white person alive today that had any part in this decision. There are plenty of things that weren't fair to white immigrants that came here from Europe after the war. However, their ancestors are not asking for U.S. reparations. You can't blame others' past deeds for questionable decisions, or frankly, take your issues out on their ancestors. I think we're more educated today to make right and fair decisions and let's just do so. Blaming dead people for bad decisions is one thing. Asking their predecessors to pay for them hundreds of years later is ridiculous.

    No shade, I do not see any native indigenous people saying this. They were the first ones that lived here and got violated to the 1st with having their land and people almost completly taken and wiped out.
    What have reparations done for people anyway? Has it really brought positivity ? The best way to heal from history is to not believe anyone owes anyone anything and to get it themselves. The progress was made why? The reason is because everyone got together of all races and agreed on something instead of being divided.
    That is why Mr. KING was murdered. He was the one who started that progress.

      You’re obviously a white so your opinion is irrelevant. But MANY indigenous people have been saying they want their land back. Just because you haven’t seen it Karen, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen Karen. Take your ritz self off this page. Your opinion and yourself are unwanted.

      LOL! This comment really isn't even worth a response. Because all shade, It's clear that you don't currently possess the knowledge to have an informed discussion on these subjects. In 1968, the same year MLK made this statement, the American Indian Movement was founded. Using the Civil Rights Movement as a blueprint, they demanded the U.S. Gov honor the treaties they signed, which included financial assets & the loss of land. What you see or don't see has no bearing on the litany of indigenous tribes who are still filing lawsuits over land & fighting for treaties to still be honored decades later. Exhibit A: The Land Back Movement. Lastly, I'm sure that the Reparations paid to Holocaust survivors in which studies have shown that it boosted their children’s academic attainments and income level, would qualify as something positive to them. I'm not even going to address the kumbaya fallacy that you tacked on to the end.

      @@jacegainer3841the japanese got 10,000, the indians got 1,000, and holocaust survivors got 400,000… or their surviving heirs got 100,000 (4 years ago). and these are the people who actually experienced the mistreatment first hand. you guys are demanding how much? 20 trillion i believe? for something that happened 160 years ago in which there’s no real way for most people to figure out who’s ancestors were affected and who’s weren’t. this is basically just a big cash grab and you guys don’t care in the least what it would do to this country.

    Massive misunderstanding. It has nothing to do with reparations. Don't muddle the truth and don't create s logical exceptions for your self, it will come back to bite you.
    Reparations is to do with moral justice. He is talking about legal justice. Use it to start a class action suit against the government.
    He does not use the word reparations, not hind to it, not even compensation. He is already in a big mess for integration. Big mess.
