This right here is pure poetry and has many truth in it. For those who do not understand, they will be quick to criticize so please don't. Leave this to those who do understand. God bless you mrs Jackie. We are blessed.

We have to understand, Jesus was a revolutionary. He came to save those who had no clue how to get there otherwise. THIS is still very much the Gospel. The church was/is supposed to be dealing with these issues but we have lost our power due to fear of making someone mad ,not praying and not being one body. Thank you Jackie Hill Perry for using your gifting to speak on these issues.

Gifted by God, gifted with grace to say the truth. This woman is an amazing sister in Jesus and I can't get over how her words and lyrics get right to the heart of things that need God's sovereign grace to restore. Let's listen to her because she gets it!

I knew from the title that this poem would generate controversy. Scrolling through the comments I've seen the mention that someone "used" to like this speaker (First of all at this moment she's a poet) to the person who felt that she should focus on more Christian issues than Social ones. There were some that felt the poem was racist. And ain't that funny?!!!
1st point at the mention of Donald Trump, stop focusing on the fact that she mentioned "your" president's name. She's conveying that despite voting, the presidency was already fixed. She's addressing Democracy.
2nd point is gluttony. Forget the fact that she used a buffet as a metaphor. She's stating that we always want and look for more without thinking about those who go without. That we've become wasteful in our use to extravagance.
3rd point is police brutality. This got some people all riled up in the comments below. First of all, this is nothing new. Black people have been talking about it for years. And honestly, this isn't a black specific issue. Mexicans and Latinos (there is a difference) deal with it was well. And so do white people. Just because she didn't specifically use ALL racial analogies doesn't mean she's racist. However, on the balance scale, i think the african american ethnicity rests on the table. (Hope you got that metaphor)
4th point is Education. This is pretty explanatory. Higher education is contradictory to its self. Everybody pushes higher education to better yourself meanwhile said education is difficult to attain. Not because of curriculum but the price tag that goes along with it.
5th point is also explanatory. Women and their objectification. We're moving into a generation where women want/or are becoming programmed to value their worthiness based on the sexual interest of a man. "Becoming another plot of land for Columbus to plant his flag".
6th point Black Communities. Black communities got ABC stores. White communities have Total Wine. Black Communities have Church's Chicken. White Communities have Boston Market. Black Communities have Food Lion, Save-A-Lot, and Walmart. White Communities have Whole Foods, Earthfare, Harris Teeter, and Publix. Black Communities have the YMCA. White communities have Lifetime Athletic. Need i say more?
7th and final point is War. We're always fighting about something. Nation against nation. Belief against belief. Meanwhile, the symbolism for which we go to war is reduced to nothing but fabric and design.
Now for the person that thinks Jackie should focus on the rewards of Heaven, first hallelujah in Jesus name that you believe that there is in fact a heaven. However, we are called to be disciples and a light upon the earth. We are not to be born, live, then die. How we choose to disciple looks different for everybody so long as it glorifies the kingdom. Honestly, in this poem i see the 7 deadly sins pointed out as we know it today. Gluttony, lust and fornication, greed, pride, sorrow/despair/despondency, wrath, vainglory, and sloth.
Jackie? Forget the haters. I👀 you.

I agree, except that those stories aren't just in black communities, they're in all poor communities. If you've ever driven through Appalachia, for instance, you know what I'm talking about. They're all white up there and they don't have any money. When I was younger (before a road came through my area, bringing more people) I had all the stores you listed as ones that are found in black communities. Except not Food Lion, because it was shut down for food safety violations.

I am curious, because I have been a part of a church who move into poor, urban neighborhoods, buy houses and flip them, sometimes reselling them and often living in them. The people there were meant to influence all areas of the city, help, outreach and love the city. This was all in an effort to help the neighborhood from the inside out. Now, if by flipping existing homes, making therefore more valuable and maybe driving demand up (which is what drives prices up by the way) and costs of living go up, does that mean we're hurting the community? How can we help by bringing businesses in that majority white communities have without being accused of gentrifying it?

I am really, really sorry she feels this way about America. I have known a few cops retired, all white, and I know that they tried to do what they thought was right. It is tragic that one specific race feels abused by another.

I thought this was from a Christian perspective? Oh my sister why do you complain about America, when this is not your home? You should have an eternal perspective. My "people" were trampled by Hitler. Fortunately my great grandfather got our family out before Hitler because he saw the writing on the wall. He didn't complain about Whole Foods, because he had no food. But again this earth is not my home. My citizenship is in heaven. And Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton neither will change that. Stop looking through earthly eyes and see the world as the Apostle Paul. As much as he loved his own people Jesus was what he argued on Mars Hill, not blue lights in rear view. Read of his sufferings and see yours and mine do not compare. And remember we are like the flowers here today and gone Tomorrow. Preach Christ justice, not social justice and your rewards will be eternal.

The pillars on which the most universal laws are written are the scriptures. We can't be too heavenly minded to be earthly useless.

You're right. This earth is not our eternal home. Thank God for that because that would suck. But stop using that as an excuse to stick your head in the sand when it comes to the sins and injustices that plague this world.
