when he started crying at the sight of his name tattoo'd on Julia Fox's ass... easily the most hilarious moment of any movie in 2019
Fun story: I watched the movie on Netflix right after I got my wisdom tooth removed, since I thought it would distract me from my headache and discomfort in my mouth. But the movie was so stressful that my headache actually got worse. Oh well, you live you learn.
This movie was very triggering for me. I have anxiety disorder and watched the whole thing in full panic mode and tachycardia...IT WAS MAGNIFICIENT. I will watch anything Safdie Brothers' hands touch at this point. And Adam Sandler deserved better this awards season, he was robbed.
Stop caring about those awards. PTA for example never won any... Could it be because he's not ĵëẁïšḧ?
Nelisez Pasce well Stanley Kubrick was Jewish and never won an Oscar
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Payton Ernest instablaster :)
@@bigsexygoat8Kubrick won Best Visual Effects for 2001, so he did win an Academy Award, but since it wasn’t for directing, producing or writing most have no clue he won an Oscar. Though, though the only reason he won was due to the fact the entire effects team couldn’t be nominated at that time and so only one person could get the nomination and while Kubrick himself wasn’t directly involved in making the Visual Effects outside of seeing how things were going, the team asked Kubrick and with his permission put his name as the nominee and then he won the award.
This movie should have a warning directed towards people with high blood pressure.
Everyone in my theater in Miami hated the ending and loudly complained about it. I saw it as inevitable. Glad it ended that way.
Film Buff 92 it was inevitable your right
I couldn't see it ending any other way .... Sooner or later that was going to be his outcome , I'm just glad I guess that it came while he was on a high like never before and he really didn't have any time to be scared or feel any pain
I've been watching video essays for a few years now, and I have to say, this is probably one of my favourite video essays I've seen ever. Its so great and my god its so well edited and written. Keep up the amazing work.
The editing for this is fantastic
High praise coming from this guy^
Woah its really him
I’m so glad I discovered this channel- I’ve been looking for a consistently compelling cinema film analysis channel!
Best cinema film analysis channel on UA-cam, no question about it.
One of the best films of 2019. Awesome video. Keep up the great work.
the editing (among other things) is absolutely great in this video! :)
Fucking amazing editing. Keep the videos coming, I'll watch them
Nice way to end the essay guys! You are great editors!
*Looking at title*
Me : I don't..
This movie needs a prequel Netflix series...
The world needs more Howard, he's larger than one movie.
Great video, you did a great job with the way went about your analysis here, in terms of which questions to ask about a character's, well, character lol
Awesome essay man :)
It was a great film and this video does it justice. Great job! 👍
Best Male Performance of the year!
You understand that Joker, Marriage Story and Parasite all came out the same year as this movie? Roman Griffin Davis was a better male performer in Jojo Rabbit (also 2019) than Sandler was in his lifetime of staring in movies, even with the 40 year age gap.
@@BigMoodGiraffe 2019 was easily one of the best years for cinema in recent history with auteurs putting out their masterpieces. Even after that Sandler stood out and blew everyone away as you must be aware rest of the actors had already given their best performances in other films but for Sandler this was his biggest one till date and he clearly overdid himself. You really need to watch this film first and then try to tell me the same thing!
I became a fan of this man when I watched big daddy. Awesome video. Truly an underrated actor
Great video
How do you personally analyze films? Curious on how others do it. Also how does that analysis turn into a video essay.
That’s gonna be a looong answer...lol
The reason for empathy is actually super-simple: for the most part, one needs to look closer what everyone else's big issue is... And every protagonist gets a tolerance or "whatever, let's go with it and see what happens" bonus, which has to be broken in less subtle ways than mostly here (where most others, besides, are worse, if not blanks...).
Earliest I’ve been to a vid in a minute.
Quality video
very early Scorsese like approach to filmmaking, mixing documentary style with fiction, and also underexposed cinematography with high contrast, which I loved.
11:37 which benecio del toro film is that ?
little in my face for a video essay
Really never felt an urge to investigate Adam Sandler in any way...
I agree.
Jackal Queenston - Rubberband like music.
Hello again.
pretty good video, but those dub snippets are really out of place.
my ears have been fucked.
Yep; I really enjoy this channel and loved the film, but I couldn't finish this video. That glitching choice with the volume turned up to MAX is like being aurally assaulted. I'm really at a loss why so many content creators use it in such unrelated areas. If one likes that genre music, great, go enjoy it, but for it to get inserted in something as cerebral as film analysis...huh? I saw it used the other day on a video about meditation/relaxation. WTF
This video is more stressful than the movie.
What’s with all the comments saying “I don’t”. What was the video called before?
0:31 holy crap what is this song
EDIT: 1:18 this song too LOL
The Safdies Bros are slowly becoming The Coen Bros of our generation.
Absolutely not....
Sandler is always way better than you expect in drama. Something about vulnerable authenticity. Must be a hard space to occupy.
I DON'T disagree!
Was I the only one to think this version of Adam Sandler looks like an Al Pacino parody? The ending was great, as it was one of the few moments that broke the unrelenting monotony of that unpleasant man yelling at the world. It was like watching a baby cry its head off non-stop, but you can't get away from it, because you're busy falling down an ascending escalator... for 2 hours. I found the film generally too unpleasant of an experience to be saved by the few moments of brilliance, one of which was the score.
cool analysis, but dear lord i wanted to switch it off every time that annoying music transition started.
What movie is heroin loving Harley from?
Also is that Sophie's music being used in the subject intermissions?
these new videos are missing something...
Just turn off the sound on the annoying cuts, it helps, guys.
my ears are bleeding
No
We shut it down after 45 minutes or so. Hated the character. Kudos for his portrayal, but at this point in my life, I'm able to walk away from things that don't connect with me. Maybe I'll try again in the future...probably not.
That music hurts my ears
Great video but those little EDM breaks are horribly seizure inducing.
maybe don't have dubstep playing the entire video
Loved the ending. Howard was a scumbag.
I'm must be the only one who didn't find a single likeable quality about Howard
Not the only one, had to turn the movie off half way through I was cringing so hard. Took me another week to put it back on and finish it. Truth be told, I now look back and realize it was a brilliant performance by Sandler, he was going for the cringe all along
nope not the only one.
Usually the best screen characters. So despicable....you can't take your eyes off them.
Dubstep makes this hard to focus on
like listening to fingernails on chalk
Have you seen Uncut Gems?? Super disorienting and intense. This music was a great choice for the video's subject
You should get paid to watch an Adam Sandler film because life is too short and time is money.
Oh god, please change the music for the intermissions. It's not that it's a bad track, but it's an awful fit and makes listening to this (let's face it, listening is a big part of youtube videos) super difficult
please fire whoever decided to edit this video
What were you trying to accomplish with those abrasive electro breaks and frenetic editing? This video is incredibly annoying, and I bailed after the third interlude.
it's so bad i am now deaf
gregvalou ok
You look like you build guitars
never hated a character more in a movie since percy in the green mile, i actually cheered at the end
Anton Chirugh in No Country for Old Men, Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave, Terrence Fletcher in Whiplash, Commodus in Gladiator?
We don't. I really found no sympathy for this character.
second that. most scum on this planet won't suffer for their poor choices, at least we can get that gratification in fiction.
"He has this ability to internalize the most absurd problems, and make the audience care"
And the audience only cares because they're a bunch of male 40 year olds with high school mentalities, since that's when they peaked and where they feel most happy about themselves.
Howard is an unlikeable character, this why you need an actor most people like (outside some of his shit movies) this is why adam was perfect for the role
Hadda thumbs down 4 the weird music lol but you’ll get my thumbs up next time if u leave dat shit out
Dude never had control over his habit. Nor did he care for anyone around him. Hes a awful person, shallow person.
This movie gave me a headache, and I was desperate for ANY of the characters to do something likable, or at least not continue hating one another. So I guess it made me care, in so much as I hoped it would stop being annoying. While it does a great job of portraying addiction and greed, I think it could have been better if everyone wasn't constantly an asshole.
if you keep that fucking awful dubstep, drum and base cutaway that makes your ears bleed im unsubscribing.
