Wow, these must be new stores! But then again, growing up in the NoHo area in the 90s I wasn't familiar with indep record stores outside of the SFV (except for a few ones like Record Surplus in West LA and Rockaway in Silverlake). Sometimes after taking the records home, I'd find a whole press kit inside the jacket, including a press release typewritten on the record label letterhead, and a headshot of the artist/band. Good times! Nowadays though, when I fly over to LA for the occasional visit and dig, I head straight to Goodwill :) - Red
Hey Alex, I'd say you guys know how to dig. I think you left no stone unturned. I enjoyed the road trip. Enjoy the new finds. It's always great to see Sherv in his natural habitat. Best wishes to you in 2024!
Fantastic album recommendation from Votu Alex! Fully hypnotic album. That Carcáscara album is on my wantlist for months... beautiful album. Cool production of your video. Keep on doing this things...Congrats man! Thank you for sharing ;)
@@diamond_marimbayou blind was an inspiration for me! I was digging into this german label and I found that there not many but with a quite authentic fresh sound. I grabbed “One Tongue” too. It is more fusion and varied. “1945” track is a cool-funky-motoric one with a groovy bass-drums glue.
Cool stuff, Alex. Very nice seeing the fellas..the finds weren't bad either....naturally intrigued by just about all of them. The last one is the only one I have. Neat, such early Kobialka. Thanks for sharing. -Carm
Such an amazing, hypnotic track to start your video, Alex. I just couldn’t get beyond that wonderful Votu rhythm. Before I knew what was happening, an unseen power had taken complete control; forcing me to my computer and unto Discog…well, you know what happened next. Lol. Some really beautiful records you found. Well done and congratulations. Cheers 🍻
lt occured to me on the way home that we hit six shops in about six hours. pretty damn good for a friday afternoon in L.A. fantastic editing with music to match
Sherv, good to see you walking about with no obvious pain you suffered during your London dig, or the 9 hour commute. They just closed a major highway bridge here in R.I., due to serious defects. I was wondering how many shops were on your trip, six is a decent number, considering time constraints. Hope you did well!
Looked like a fun day Alex. I respect Sherv and your music interests. I would have loved to have been in LA. I am sure that I would have got some fine tips on which artists/albums were good listens. That Folkways label can surprises me with some really nice records from time to time. Pleasantly delivered Alex. Has Gimme Gimme been in business a longtime? Or is it somewhat of a newer shop? Thanks A~ Rob/Boston
Alex, nice video from the Meet - up, the guys look fine and fit for the new year. Nice to see you got Pierre Henry, I know you want the complete series. Carm showed a Daniel Kobialka a few years ago. Kobialka played on Ambrosia's hit single, ''Holdin' On To Yesterday'' from 1975. I always wanted to hear the music of Ken Hyder and Salvatore Martirano. Votu sound like they have been listening to lots of James Brown. Yeah, ''give the drummer some!''
Was going to ask what song was playing until you showed that record. Looks like you got some great stuff. Knew maybe 1/3 of what you showed but own none (yet).
Will see if this comment disappears or not..lol..nice six shops under the time constraints is pretty amazing actually..i have been lucky to maybe get 4 in..lol.. Great pickup's as well..nice you got that Salvatore lp.. Sure jamie sherv and jason found some great stuff as well...much love chris
Thanks for the invite and hanging for a bit even if I was super late. Look forward to doing again. Cheers!
Awesome video and a great primer/intel for my upcoming trip
can recommend all of these shops for sure, have fun
Looks like good times and a healthy stack. Nice video cheers.

Carm, I remember telling you the fun fact that Kobialka played with Ambrosia but I can't recall which one of Daniel's albums that you showed.

beautiful little document there. Nice finds. All from Estuario?
no from all over, maritime was the only shop I didn't find anything at
Nice snapshot of your dig Alex. Some interesting ethno-centric finds there.

of course, always try to give credit. I'm sure we'll have a dig one day.
Love Estuario, where you may have got the Votu lp. Looking forward to checking out On Maritime.
yes votu was at estuario, eduardo is a good guy. on maritime has a good jazz section, condition can be spotty though.
Work got done.
A fun day of hunting and gathering, it looked like.
Good to see Sherv in the wild. The beat will be in head all night. Nicely shot ✌🏻
