  • We are in Georgetown Penang to celebrate the famous Chinese Mid- Autumn festival here in Malaysia, also known as the mooncake festival or moon festival. This is the second most important festival for Chinese - Malaysians after the Chinese new year so we explored the famous UNESCO heritage site of Georgetown to join the locals in the yearly celebration.

I think the lantern that is not allowed is the one that functions like mini hot air balloon. They make a paper balloon and light a candle underneath and let it fly without any control which can accidentally ignite fire on buildings. 👍👍 Enjoy your stay in Penang guys.

A bit upset you guys didn't see the lion dance, it has always been my favourite part of Chinese festivals. The ladies sharing moon cakes with you guys are very wholesome though. Moon cakes can be very expensive so it's really nice that they are sharing them with you.

Wow, those aunties really represented Penang well. We are forward and friendly. Very generous of them to share their mooncakes, usually it's meant to be shared with family and friends or coworkers but with total strangers isn't that normal. Not to mention that these mooncakes can be very expensive.

The local authority has advised the public not to release sky lanterns in the interest of aviation and fire safety. In this festival, people usually hang lantern in front house or on a stick.

Our Lantern Festival here also known as Mooncake Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival, no to be mistaken with The Lantern Festival in Taiwan and Thailand. Where people release flying lantern into the air. Those lantern are banned in Malaysia. During Mooncake festival/Mid-autumn Festival here in Malaysia, we pray to the moon, eat mooncakes and tell folklore stories to the kids. And the kids carry small type lantern in the hand with a stick to walk around in the neighbourhood as a form of celebration. The celebration now is very different from the tradition from thousand of years. How that clears the confusion.

''Pad Thai'' just means ''fried rice noodles'' in the Thai language.. char kuey teow is the same thing ''fried rice noodles'' in the Chinese language.. the next time you see ''kuey teow goreng'' thats the same thing but in the malay language.. they're all the same.. its just fry noodles.. different stall with different cook will be different.. you are in Asia.. the culture has been interwoven for thousands of years.. i think you need to learn simple local words.. its very straight forward.. its not complicated.. you should try ''mee goreng india''.. indian fried noodles with an idian twist.. they are all staples of Malaysia..

the flag carrying is called chingay ... is a tradision flag dance perfromance and the flags weigh atleast 5Kg from the start but that big is about 8-10Kg but is about balancing and performance but if is windy the flag is hard to control. so if talk about lanterns well is due to covid so to lantern walk ... but the floating/flying lantern is ban in malaysia due to last time there is a case that the lantern got burn and falls down to a house and burn down the house... so the lantern is ban but we used to have this lantern walk around the Padang Kota Lama.

The Chingay Parade is an annual street parade held in Malaysia and Singapore usually in celebration with the birthdays of the Chinese deities or in some cases the procession of the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin) as part of the Chinese New Year festivities.[1] The term Chingay itself originated from the Chinese communities of Southeast Asia, which is a phonetic equivalent of both the Chinese words "真藝" (zhēnyì) which means "true art" in the Penang version, and "妝藝" (zhuāngyì) which means "a decorated miniature stage" or float in the Singapore version. PAYM (People's Association Youth Movement) has been an active contributor to chingay in Singapore. Today, the parade is celebrated by all communities of both Malaysia and Singapore.[1]
