Long iron was the easiest for me. I prefer my 1/2 iron instead of my driver. My driver turns into a nascar. Shit damn near ends up behind me
Have you tried an adjustable loft/lie club? I bought a used Callaway xr16 driver, it’s 1” shorter than standard, and I’ve put it on +2° Loft and Draw bias, now my natural swing hits a nice fade, before I had to use such an un natural swing to try and get a ball to go straight
@@MrTuts4life I have a cheap complete set from dicks lol It’s not the best but I can maintain par/bogey
That's because you're not a good golfer
Drop your back leg back. Where your big toe is at your ankle.
Usually I have no problem with my driver, but one day I just couldn’t hit it straight and just went with my 2 the rest of the day haha.
The way you described using your body to hit the ball was an absolutely phenomenal way of describing it. Well done👍
So true, my golfing brother.
I took a long time getting to scratch, and this was one of the last things that fell into place for to get there.
Well put. Thank you.
Entering tournaments? Being a scratch golfer is good enough to get on the PGA tour. Less than .005% of players actually play par or lower through 18. Hell, 70% of PGA pros on tour dont even finish an event even or below. You are truly in the elite.
I agree to a certain extent, back in the stance will give you a lower flight when needed. I play my irons in the center unless needed otherwise.
I concur with using the body to hit the ball. It's made a tremendous change in flight and distance for me especially with my 9 and PW.
When starting out in golf as a 4 year old. I was raised on whatever clubs my dad could get for me. He never bought into the cheap starter sets. It was always bladed irons, from my first trimmed down Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge Iron Set at age 5. To today my current set of Titleist Z M FORGED S200 irons. Blades I’ll always use it’s all I know.
That’s impressive among some people today it seems. I know if I saw someone using blades on the course I’d think “man, that’s where I wanna be”
Gonna actually start makin some time investment into golf this year after just random rounds here and there. Just practiced just these tips on some swings and it immediately felt so comfortable. Thanks!
These are good tips for any irons, honestly. Any club that isn't a driver, wood, or hybrid off the tee. Any of the other clubs (including hybrid off the deck, or even a wood off the deck) involves hitting down at the ball, and rotating your body to generate momentum.
Good golf tips.
hitting down is crucial
Focus on making solid contact and trust the club will do the rest. Ball position is what changed my whole entire game through the whole bag. Once I got that figured out it’s so much more fun lol. But trust the club, it’s designed that way for a reason, ball position and clean contact and the club will do the rest for you
What position for what clubs?
Thank you - these little tips make such a difference and provide more joy which makes me want to play more golf.
Those tips are the key to striking all irons optimally. The difference between longer and shorter clubs is that the shorter ones are more forgiving of poor technique.
There is a practice drill in Hogan’s Five Lessons which I found very helpful. Use 1/4 swing drills from backswing to finish extensions focusing on the mechanics of using passive hands and using hip and shoulder turn get the club head to lag and release. This is relatively easy to do with wedges and shorter irons because the heads are more massive and shafts shorter so they will react by accelerating around the hands sooner. As the club shafts get longer and heads have less mass they require more time and space to release around the hands.
Beginners will naively try to speed up the club head by pulling it down with the hands but that contracts the muscles in the forearms locking up the wrists and inhibiting the free release of the club head mass around them. During the 1/4 swing drill with progressively longer clubs will help break the habit of trying to help the club down to the ball with the hands and arms.
I smoke the 4 iron 210m carry with the ball behind center
Great tips 👍🏾
Also using a sweeping motion as opposed to striking down on the ball like the rest of the irons. Helps me anyways
I desperatly need help with my irons i am new to golf and i can drive a decent shot but when it comes to fairway shots im hopeless 😂 thanks for the tips ill be sure to test them out.
I think it's very important for people to learn to flatten the wrist. Idk why there isn't more emphasis on this
I’ve only played ~100 holes of golf so far, but the only things I’ve found semi consistent and fun are my 30-50 yard wedge, and a 7 iron🤷♂️
My 7 iron is my best friend. And I’ve only been out 5-6 times
I'll definitely try this new advice tomorrow. Tenx
Yeah, I’ve doin this wrong the whole time. Thanx for the tip.👍🏽
Got it....better stance, dont flick hand, use body, dont pull up, keep swing down. Great, thanks
Now I just need to learn to hit my 7 iron. For whatever reason, I hit my 7 iron the same distance as my pitching wedge. 9 and 8 irons I'm good with. 6 -4 I'm good with. My 7, however I get no distance out of.
Thanks helps me a lot

Been playing for a year and on Fairways I always chunk my Irons, I need to stop flicking at the ball
A solid tip is keeping your hands firm
@@winkindinkin7870ya if anything over grip the club slightly and learn to play the fade that comes with it and then tune the hands once the motion is down. That helped me figure out the long irons within a single season.
@@winkindinkin7870 if by keeping your hands firm you mean strong grip pressure, then that’s a terrible tip
@@SuperWholeMilk agree 100%. Grip it lightly and let the club do the work. There's no manhandling a long iron.
You might be dropping your back shoulder
I put my right foot like 2 inches behind the ball since I'm right handed then put my left foot like 1/2 a foot in front of it then that seems to work for me
I prefer a -1 iron, its got anti-loft that sends it into the ground.
Nothing wrong with having the ball in the back of your stance, making good contact is more important and many beginners will bottom out their club closer to the middle of their stance
Flicking and Chunking my Irons is my worst problem
I went there yesterday
Explain how you figure out how far away you stand from the ball?
I hit every iron without taking a divot.. make good contact, but I definitely need lessons 😂
Me too man and I’ve shot in the 70s a few times.. but never making divots so I know I’m doing something wrong 😂
One comment : if you have good ball contact, why do you need to take divot? I sweep more and have a good ball contact most of the time.
Long iron works best for me, but I put the ball on the inner side of my right foot. I guess everyone has their own stance
My 5 Iron is my favorite Iron currently.
Bombed my 5 240 yards today.
@@tannercook4322lies
@@christianjustice9586 He isnt lying but lofts arent universal among club sets and designs. My amateur set of clubs compared to my brother nice set of Callaway blades is shifted one club down. My 8 is his 9, 7 is 8 etc. Also the length of shafts are different. Maybe his 5 iron has stronger loft.
Thanks
Different strokes for different folks
I’m tryin man, I’m tryin
Weight on front foot??
With your longer irons you do want to hit it on your way up hitting down on a 2 iron per say will cause you to hit it fat more often than not trying to hit down on it given my experience and I'm mid to low handicap
Something that many people (and, strangely, club manufactures) overlook is the lie angle of long irons. As a player, instructor, and professional caddie I can tell you that it’s nearly impossible to hit upright long irons.
First, the over all “standard” lie of all clubs has gone more upright over the decades. Clubs have become longer too - and because lie and length are proportional, that make long irons even more upright. To make matters even worse, without taking their customers much at all, the OEM’s changed their lie angle progression throughout the set.
Historically, lies moved flatter by 1 degree for every half inch of length. So, your 3 iron was one degree flatter than your 4 iron. But, now it’s only half a degree for half and inch. This seeming subtle change makes a long iron so woefully upright that it almost make me think they’re doing it on purpose to convince people long irons are hard to hit so they can sell more $250 hybrids.
Flatten your longest iron down 4-5 degree and you’ll be flushing it because they’re actually easy to hit.
If I thin, how is it better when I put the ball forward than let' s say in the middle? Thanks.
I never knew the ball position mattered with different irons omg….i always had it in the centre area no wonder I did best with just 7 irons
One trick that ALWAYS works for me is to use your driver stance with your iron swing
Idk why this works but even when I was trash I could hit good long irons this way 😂
I literally tell my buddy this every weekend and he doesn’t listen to me 🤣
Hey man it gets heated out on the course lol I know good and well the “screw you dude, I GOT this” feeling
@@Lancer_0010 LMAO 🤣 it do be competitive af out there 🤣 especially with some of my crew
Idk what has clicked for me lately but I’ve been bombing my 4 iron any where from 240-250 and it’s been so consistent to the point where I don’t even hit driver till a par 5 or a really long par 4 but even then I’ll still pure a 6 iron in but yet can’t hit a 3 wood 225 yards
I'm good down to 6 iron...5+ is terrible end up 150 yards most of the time..I move ball forward in Stance with the 6 and hit it fine 180 but 5 is a no go for me I get the hybrid out at this stage
I love to play golf..how can I swing without hurting my bad knees? If anyone is playing with bad knees have any tips?
I play golf but not often.
But if u know a lot about golf , you should explain better. Not like" do not put a ball towards back because you have a longer stick".
Everything here is what you need to start with. My driver starting really sucking so I've started using my 3 and 4 off the tee, played a whole tournament like this a few weeks ago. Hit my 4 iron 224 from the fairway onto the green, that was one of my favorite shots I've ever hit.
My long irons always go left, consistently.. cant seen to find a solution for it…
If only it was this easy!
Yep, easy as that!
What shoes are those?
I can not stop hitting off my back foot. I been playing for two months and can’t break the habit. I either hit the ground and not close to ball or when I do I’m falling back and shooting off back leg. Any help please
That’s some plush grass propping that ball up
Thx
Looks like using long irons out of the rough is the first issue
Why is that? What do you like to hit with for long range shots out of the rough?
Long irons are for pros. Weekend golfers need the 9 wood. If it's good enough for DJ and VJ......it's good enough for us. Hybrids don't come close to the modern lofted fairway wood.
3’8
You don't want to hit down on it to much you want to sweep through it
No you want to hit ball then ground first. Sweeping is fine but won’t give you that flush contact.
Nice
👌
What’s long irons 3-4-5?
Yes
Ball position is everything for long irons... How people think they can trap a 4 iron is beyond me lol
Longer irons actually dont need to be that far up in the stance, but Im not a professional either
I'm doing OK now
The question is… why should beginners hit long irons!
Nope middle or jst back forward takes it hook
why does a longer club mean move the ball up?
Can’t hit the short irons either 😂
Step 1 throw long irons in the bin. Step 2, buy hybrids. Worked for me 😂

Don’t flick your wrists, cast out your hands / arms like casting a fishing rod. This will increase club head speed.
And just like a fishing rod you wouldn't cast at the top and stop, you cast and hold your wrist at the cast position all the way through. Casting a fishing rod is a great example.
Casting is fine as long as you don't go over the top
@@GooseDuck-ft4ko true but if you do it right, it’s after your body starts it’s rotation for your downswing. Its like as the body is turning, after your arms bring the club back to the swing plane. you extend your right arm like casting a fishing rod sideways ig.

Amagine topping the ball tops it in a pga tournament
No Sense to Play These. My 7 Wood is a Weapon!
tips from a pga tournament leader I see-- creds plz
Long irons are easy.
Ok
Or just hit a hybrid haha
First step figure out what a long iron is
Other than ball position, isn’t this how you hit literally any club?
No, Not your driver.
My 4 has been working dreams for me. However I use none of these techs.... I'm sorry but not everyone can be an instructor... no joke don't lift up on the ball. And ball position forward is correct, yet you work with your body size. And lastly. I don't use my body as highly mentioned. I use mine as i would treat my driver. I cleared 190 yards on a par 3 and landed 3 feet from the green WITHOUT using my body
Sports Ohio? Lol
Not taking tips from someone who uses the best shot in the video. (.)
Beginners shouldn't even bother with long irons in my opinion. Grab a hybrid, and leave the ego in the bag.
The first tip is to not watch help videos on UA-cam.
These tips have absolutely nothing to do with long irons. So sick of UA-cam wannabe golf pros
im slightly confused! you said here is how you hit long irons and show us a slice an topped it 1 shot it goes 7ft in front of you. is this a joke?
He was showing you what the average person does wrong and then how to make good contact on the third shot.

Why do bikers think they're above the law?
Yikes
Teaching a beginner to use their body with words SMH
Make sure you have the second brain or golf is hopeless.
Step 1: Don't swing ridiculously inside like this guy
それを説明してできないのが初心者やで
Drive it far enough that you don't use long irons.....Problem solved.
Next?
Ball position is not the problem
Ooooooh grass tees!
I can only hit a 7 iron.
Same tips everyone says and don’t work for a majority
Ok
