I am turning 65 and my brother in law said to me in a few months ago. He said 80 percent of our life is over. when I turned 61, I also loss my two younger cousins, 56 and 54. I told my spouse , it is time to enjoy and see the world when WE CAN STILL WALK and MOBILE. Life is too short and unpredictable. Even exercise and health gurus DIE.
So the last three years especially during covid, we traveled a great deal and got great travel deals. We share this with everyone we meet. WE DO NOT PLAN TO BE THE RICHEST INDIVIDUALS IN THE CEMETERY. ... PLUS IT DOES NOT MATTER, YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY IN THE BANK ACCOUNT. IF YOU DO NOT SPEND IT, IT IS NEVER YOUR MONEY. THE TRUTH. Mum is elderly, I'd stay in Melb, visit her as often as you can. After she goes, you will not regret putting your life on hold just to spend time with her. I'm the same with my dad, I just spend the past 7 days, everyday visiting my old man in hospital in Melb.
I'm 56, as soon as they are both gone, I'm outta here! My mum passed away in 2018, my dad will probably live to 100! So long as my old man is in age care home, I will still be in Melb. That's Life.
IF you do decide to tough it out like me in Melb, take the job, get an assistant for succession planning. When the time comes, you can make your quick escape and not leave the club hung out to dry.

I remember reading somewhere this bloke was in his eighties I think, and he was looking at his work retirement party on an old VHS tape. He couldn't believe how young he was at his retirement (likely 65). The point being age is relative. Look after mum - you will never get that time with her back again (and you will be glad you did), but also perhaps have some shorter breaks overseas to see if that is *really* what you want to do ? ... The grass is mostly not always greener on the other side. As for work, well, no-one misses that. ... All the best.

I will undoubtedly have a different view to many as you will likely already know.
I watch a lot of different channels on retirement and alternate ways of life and no matter how you slice it it will come down to money in a lot of ways.
It may be easy to generate that sort of money here but will you be able to do it whilst you're in the cheaper countries? They're cheaper for a reason.
Also I think that a lot of channels will tell you how good it all is as it's what they chose to do and it's working so far.
I often watch a retirement channel where they took a certain path that has worked up until now but there are some very specific things to where they are that wouldn't work so well in other places.
The grass is always greener over the Septic Tank springs to mind.
I wonder how many think about the later years as well and what they will do as they inevitably less able.
I had a small yachting channel come up in my feed a few days ago that were living the dream and doing a big trip after a refurb on their boat.
They were found washed up on an island in a 10ft rubber boat a few weeks after they set off.
Maybe a blended approach might work.
Work like hell for some/most of the year and then spend a month or so travelling to scratch that itch as well.
