The writer of this text if it's the reader (Dan Shultz?) must have been totally ignorant and disrespectful of Aboriginal culture and spirituality to demean it by calling it a "folk story". That's like calling Judaism, Taoism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism "folk stories"! Perhaps most Americans can't conceive of a culture at least 65,000 years old from its arrival in Sahul, once the one continent of Australia, New Guinea and Tasmania. Aborigines are the longest continually living modern human cultures on the planet.
The Seven Sisters story he tells is so wrong and bizarrely Disney-like, nothing like those told by Aboriginal people today in their songlines. Those are the creation stories from "The Dreaming" not the "dream time" as he mistakenly said. They could have been from some time during the last Ice Age, more than 11,000 years ago before the Earth started to warm again. The Dreaming about the Seven Sisters has been handed down in the oral tradition about astronomy, learnt word for word, grandparent to grandchild around the country since that time.
Seriously, this is a disgrace. If you want to tell a story from anywhere, at least do your proper research and get the basic facts of it right, out of respect for ancient cultures, and for this one, for all Australians today.

Share the story, we will listen. Is there a website or channel that can reveal the depth of these cultural creation stories that you speak of. Most people on this channel have a great love of story in all forms. I would love to learn more to develop my understanding and appreciation of all people and history.
