1993 was about the time I was introduced to Yellowjackets; Jimmy "Flim" Johnson of Flim & the BB's was filling in for Haslip in S. California. For over 30 years, Yellowjackets is still great. Alderson replaced Haslip with new energy many years ago. Check Alderson out; Buy the great album Yellowjackets with WDR Big Band.
You’re correct because I saw the “Jackets” with Jimmy Johnson on bass that year at the now closed for good Celebrity Theater in Anaheim CA. Jimmy put it down that evening especially his solo on this song…a great performance!
one of my favorite yellowjacket tunes. love J Haslip but Robben Ford made this tune spectacular. Still to this day with 50 plus years of music addiction, hundreds of live shows, and having seen Robben on numerous times his guitar work in this tune and his solo in this tune still takes my breath away. Always have to listen to it twice in a row.
Those pre-Gibson Tobias bass guitars were truly a special generation of instruments. And cats like Jimmy Haslip made them sing(bass solo starting at around 1:54). #respect
Wow Will!! One the most controlled stylists out there. To me, the choice of fill and restraint displayed at 5:50 sums up the genius of Will’s drumming. Love it 🙏🏼👾👾👾
The Yellowjackets are absolutely NOT a successor to Weather Report. Any jazz connoisseur knows that they have taken the “modern” jazz format to its highest level yet. Some fusion, yes, but which contemporary bands have not?
Вперше таке бачу! Басист грає на лівосторонньому басу, але струни стоять навпаки, та як ніби він взяв правосторонній бас і просто перекинув його на ліву руку.
This is one of the reasons why I am happy to live in this world.
Soulight
"This is one of the reasons why I am happy to live in this world."
Yeah. More of this.
YES.
