Greetings from Eagle River, AK! Just a little info to help ya out. Tok is pronounced with a long "O", like "oak". The Alcan Hwy. is one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken, especially through the Muncho Lake area. Definitely take your time sightseeing. Once you get to Alaska, be prepared for more rocks through the windshield. People here joke about it, especially when selling a used vehicle with an "Alaskan windshield" meaning it's full of chips and cracks. I replace my windshields only after they get to where we can't see through them any longer. When you get to Denali, definitely spend the money on the loooong, arduous bus ride deep into the Park, back to the Visitor Center (you won't be able to drive personal vehicles any farther back than Savage River, about 12 miles in). You'll probably get to see all kinds of wildlife and the views of Denali and the surrounding mountains is awe inspiring! It will make you realize the wonderous power of God's creation!
What a blessing to be able to take a trip like this and with your dad!
Just enjoy the route as you go. That is beautiful country you are in, take it all in no matter what route you take.
I tell my husband when things are going slow on the road God is saving us from an accident just take care it will be there when you get there enjoy the sights

Yay, we just made the trip from Florida to Wasilla Alaska. We missed the fires by 2 days and a rock slide by an hour. Praise the Lord 🙌 We are rving around Alaska the whole season. Maybe our paths will cross.
Butter is crazy expensive here, so we made butter from whipping cream. It's good to know some skills.
We got a long crack in our windshield 😮 not a normal bb shot but a long crack. Have a great trip.

My brother drove the AlCan when it was all gravel. He said Windshield issues were common and extra tires were a must.

My dad got stationed in Alaska and we drove up the Alcan Hwy >dirt road for hundreds of miles..we let the army move our stuff up there but he wanted to take that trip.for a adventure..I’m sooo grateful for the memories he gave me and a once in a lifetime childhood..we stopped at Alaskan villages..stayed in cabins and saw the most gorgeous rivers and moose!!..oh what I’d give for a moose steak!! We were in the big Alaskan earthquake in the 60s..I think I was about 7yr old..we also drove back down after we were there for 4 yrs..and I remember when we got back on asphalt near Canada..I told my dad to slow down.lit felt like he was speeding after that gravel dirt road lol…Have fun..stay safe!!!..

I would have when and gotten on the big ferry boat to Alaska. That's my plan when I head that way next year

If you know how to repair or replace a windshield or have any useful info regarding that or have a family member that does or that can even get her a discount, why NOT give a sister a hand? Maybe you're along her route or live in her state... I know she is not asking us for help, but God has given each of us talents and abilities and gifts that are meant to glorify Him and to edify (strengthen) the church. I don’t know if they still do it but when you get to Hanes Junction on the Alcan Hwy, if they still do the helicopter rides over the glaciers it is well worth it! Not cheap but views you can’t get any other way.
The Kaziar highway is prettier...but a little more remote and services are longer apart.

You will love Skagway. We drove up to Alaska from Iowa in a C-class RV and loved Skagway’s beauty and amazing history. Do not miss Klondike Gold Rush Natl Park or the Slide Cemetery. We enjoyed the campground near the cruise terminal. Take several days there. It’s a major but tough accomplishment to drive to Alaska. Stay strong and sleep well. It’s a trip you will never forget - enjoy it.

So good seeing you and hearing your descriptions of the things you’ve experienced! I’m so sorry about the stone through your windshield! When we start on long trips, we never know what to expect! My husband and I went west twice. Just the two of us first time, and with our two children the next time! Our first experience was great because we didn’t really know what to expect! Returning with two young ones was fun, as they were telling us to “look” at everything! We did, although we had already seen most things they were showing us, yet we wanted to seem very excited, because they really were!
