Too fucking right! I dont think people realise how much can be lost in the first lap compared to how much can be won. Personally I think i lucked out on the start which set me up to challenge for the next lot of positions. Guess it all depends on the people your racing with. Some are fine....some......uhh. yeh! Restart the race! :p
This Video restored some enthusiasm for me to Race Online again. While there was 1st lap incidents, I can understand that as different drivers and really not knowing what to expect where people brake or lines they take (not like when in a series you know who you are racing) And after there was a lot of manners to the leaders. Thank you for sharing.
Glimiril Online public races are very up and down, hit and miss. For every video like this, that is worth putting up, I go through about 5-10 races of crap, crashes or just pure uneventful boring-ness driving in open air. So don't worry, your not the only one! ;) And no problem! Glad you enjoyed!
Excellent race Yorkie. Nail biting finish. I might have told you this before, but prior to subscribing to you I would never have sat and watched a whole race online from start to finish. Since subscribing though I've done it multiple times and I've even occasionally done it elsewhere as well. You've managed to give me a taste for it. :) Eager for something new to tide me over while I wait for "Project Cars" on the PS4, I'd been hoping to see "Assetto Corsa" on the list of Black Friday reductions. But sadly it's not been included and the piggy bank won't stretch to thirty squids this side of Christmas. Bah! :) Badger

REAL RACING GURU A PC and a wheel. I'd recommend google'ing the system specs for it. You can pick it up on steam but I'd probably wait for it to go on a sale to get it cheaper. And definitely get a wheel. Won't be worth trying to play with a controller unless you have no other option too. As far as I can tell everyone else is using a wheel, and you'll just find it hard to keep up unless you're seriously good at using a pad in sims.
Have you a video on the basic differences between these games? They all look so similar I would not know which one to get. The cars I would like to race most are the older BTCC cars like Primera/Accords/Lagunas, that would maybe sway which one I bought if there is little difference

I've watched your vid, then i tried to follow your advices and after several attempts i made my firt podium. So i came back to thank you. I'm new to online racing and new to wheel driving too. I used to play gran turismo and was not bad at all but everything is different with a real sim game and there's a lot to learn when you're not that young anymore and you helped me to pass this step. Awesome driving, nice english voice, and very tense yet fair race. Learned alot just from watching it. I just got into the sim world this week. On my second day now with Assetto corsa with DFGT wheel. My best lap in Spa is 2:29 with only ABS on. I hope to get somewhere near 2.19 like you. Lot of practice still needed though. Subscribed!
yonatan pandelaki Practice and familiarization with the wheel and cars will help you get a lot closer. I was slower than I was on controller when I first started using the wheel, but over time I caught back and up and passed my previous pace. Now I'm miles ahead and can do things on the wheel I can't with a controller. Just keep practicing and gain that confidence and you'll be sub 2.20's in no time! :)
Erik Schindler I've had closer finishes in previous races. Just the bits between the start and that final lap aren't really worth showing as having nothing entertaining or any proper talking points to this one as it's usually down to them making a big mistake rather than me slowly working to close a gap over time.

I really agree with you about that slowing the car down for a few seconds or whatever. That shit is stupid, infuriating and busts up your rhythm. Plus it usually means there is no point continuing as you know you have no chance to catch up.
From 20th to win in 8 laps, it is possible on the screen of the computer. This kind of archievement in real word will be like magic! But, very exciting battle. Minimazing mistakes - maximizing gains. Great cold blooded fight. It was pleasure to watch, but this unreal archievement... :)

As for sounding realistic, playing it last night after the latest update has taken a lot of immersion out of the sounds. They're good don't get me wrong but they're not overly realistic in terms of what the driver would hear.

@munaton monni Yes you should be able to play the game. i run an AMD phenom 2 black (dual core) with an Nvidia 650 (not TI) and i can play the game on medium gfx settings just fine. Yes its multiplayer right form the start (if you want) or you can race on your own, or against AI cars.. While yes you can technically use the keyboard as your controller, you REALLY shouldnt. This isnt need for speed, it is a proper racing simulator.. a keyboard is a digital controller meaning if you press "turn left" it will apply FULL left lock, if you tap the brake key it will apply FULL brake meaning your wheels will lock up every single time... At minimum for ANY racing sim, you need an analogue controller (a ps3 or xbox360 controller) as they have the shoulder triggers which are not simply On/Off buttons. but ideally you will want to use a proper wheel and pedals set. that way if you only turn the wheel 2 degrees the cars wheels will turn 2 degrees. The cars REALLY do behave just like a real car would under the same conditions. So if you do buy this, just go and spend $20 on a second hand X360 controller, it really will make all the difference.
I didn't see much contact between you and ESN when it happened, yet your rear bumper and diffuser took a lot of damage. Something similar happened to me at the 'Ring (100% mechanical failures in options), but my diffuser was basically fine. Did they change the damage system that much or was it the server overreacting?
That was some great racing from both of you. So tell me, please: You've been laping in the low 2:19s consistently. Did you manage to pull out 6 to 7 qualifying laps in that race always at your (and the cars') limit or did you actually control your pace to not mess up one single turn and performing clean laps?
Fabio Spatola I was pushing but not 100%. Somewhere around 95% as since this video I've been able to lap fair consistently in the 2.18's. Even still, going at these sorta times it's pretty easy to make a mistake that will cost you a few tenths.
consistency is pretty cool thing. I'm racing in one serie: I have a slower car than the top 6 guys, and I'm slower too, because they are in a alien grade, you know. but, in championship points, I'm sharing 5th position with one of the alien guys, because the aliens always crash when not winning, and I'm always 4th - 7th. I try to maximise my best-of-restness, and drive really carefully, and hey, it is working. they are 1,5-2 seconds faster in one lap
***** yep! If you get the consistency going well then it can get you the good results. Thats what I found when I was doing league racing a couple of years ago. I wasn't the quickest, but I had decent consistency and ok pace, good racecraft and a very good strategic head. The combination got me some very good results in the league, no wins, but at times I was punching above my weight. Now though, I've worked on my pace too and have gotten a lot closer to the guys I used to race with.
Yorkie065 yup. strategy, no damage, no mistakes, no hotheaded divebombing etc. good, clean race and safe but fast setup. I found out couple of setup secrets, and my laptime got 1 second faster, it was a lifesaver. still I need 90 inch multimonitors and USB connection from my spine and cortex to the computer like you.

xavlexav This was done with commentary in editing after the race. But generally it's fairly easy for me to keep my cool in situations like these. The only times when I can get really flustered is either when I am making a lot of stupid mistakes myself or there is a huge amount of pressure being applied.

+jeanbobbb I've not played it in a while but it is a bit more of a challenge. The tyres aren't as easy to read as they are in PCars and generally feel like they have less grip. Need to give it another go and get a good feel for it as I haven't played AC properly in a good few months.

That was some great racing from both of you. So tell me, please: You've been laping in the low 2:19s consistently. Did you manage to pull out 6 to 7 qualifying laps in that race always at your (and the cars') limit or did you actually control your pace to not mess up one single turn and performing clean laps?
Fabio Spatola I was pushing but not 100%. Somewhere around 95% as since this video I've been able to lap fair consistently in the 2.18's. Even still, going at these sorta times it's pretty easy to make a mistake that will cost you a few tenths.

consistency is pretty cool thing. I'm racing in one serie: I have a slower car than the top 6 guys, and I'm slower too, because they are in a alien grade, you know. but, in championship points, I'm sharing 5th position with one of the alien guys, because the aliens always crash when not winning, and I'm always 4th - 7th. I try to maximise my best-of-restness, and drive really carefully, and hey, it is working. they are 1,5-2 seconds faster in one lap
***** yep! If you get the consistency going well then it can get you the good results. Thats what I found when I was doing league racing a couple of years ago. I wasn't the quickest, but I had decent consistency and ok pace, good racecraft and a very good strategic head. The combination got me some very good results in the league, no wins, but at times I was punching above my weight. Now though, I've worked on my pace too and have gotten a lot closer to the guys I used to race with.
Yorkie065 yup. strategy, no damage, no mistakes, no hotheaded divebombing etc. good, clean race and safe but fast setup. I found out couple of setup secrets, and my laptime got 1 second faster, it was a lifesaver. still I need 90 inch multimonitors and USB connection from my spine and cortex to the computer like you.

xavlexav This was done with commentary in editing after the race. But generally it's fairly easy for me to keep my cool in situations like these. The only times when I can get really flustered is either when I am making a lot of stupid mistakes myself or there is a huge amount of pressure being applied.

This game looks awesome. Did a 2.16.9 in Project Cars with that BMW. Hopefully Assetto Corsa's physics provide a bigger challenge..
+jeanbobbb I've not played it in a while but it is a bit more of a challenge. The tyres aren't as easy to read as they are in PCars and generally feel like they have less grip. Need to give it another go and get a good feel for it as I haven't played AC properly in a good few months.
what's your DFGT and in-game wheel settings? Looks way more responsive than the way I have it, would be nice to try your settings :)
