A little behind the scenes info here. I filmed this video yesterday and stayed up late last night editing it. I thought it would be fun to take the camera to band practice and include a song at the end. When I uploaded the video last night, I got a notification that the video has been copyright claimed because of the song. Problem is, I wrote the song, self published it and own every inch of it. It's happened to me a few times before, but I disputed the claims and won after a little while. I like that UA-cam tries to protect people's copyright, but the system has a long way to go. So, I disputed it last night and when I published a few minutes ago, I got a notification that youtube would limit the reach of this video. If I had a bunch of free time, I would have just edited the song out, but I always publish at 8am (Indy time) and I haven't missed a day for the last two years or so. So, I'm letting it ride. The dispute will be cleared, but it can take up to a month. I'm only sharing this, so y'all can get a feel for some of the silliness that happens behind the scenes. Also, that guy that busted me was really nice about it. And lastly, the audio for the song is straight off the camera. It's not great, but it's way better than I thought it would be.
They work both together as when Woody Guthrie could sing ‘Tom Joad’ as a salute and passing on John Steinbeck’s ‘Grapes of Wrath’. Story and song are the working hands of passing knowledge. ☮
Hey Otis. Your Saturday morning videos have been part of my weekend routine for a while. Kinda like touching base with an old friend as the weekend begins. We have some tangential connections, which is interesting. Anyway, I want to thank you for your videos, especially this morning's. I hate to admit, but this video was the first time that I've been exposed to your music, rather than just your excellent commentary and interviews. Something about that song hit me. Not sure how to put it, but the "real-ness" of it hit home; both the song itself and the setting in which it was performed. Old friends/artists in a cool old place making real music. As the kids say, it hit me right in the feels. Nice to see real things. I needed that this morning. So, thanks, man. Keep up the great work. I'll be checking your music out on the various venues. Have a good weekend.
Wow....simply just WOW! What a great song...so very real and wonderful. Thank you Otis for all that do for all of us "vintage" singer/songwriters...you jumpstart our weekend....and I feel blessed to know ya !
I am currently sitting next to my gf when you mentioned that "...music is supposed to be fun, and you can just do it with the people you love, and do it the best you can". Hearing that, I paused, rewound the video 10 seconds, and played it for my GF, who just started singing and playing mando and upright with me around the house a year ago. We smiled. Thanks, Otis.
Morning Otis, You Handled the cat in the matching yellow jacket and hard hat perfectly! Just doing his job. You weren't confrontational, treated him with respect and didn't make your agenda more important than what it is! You never know what people are up to sometimes these days?! Thanks for sharing the music, great Mojo abounds with that great space, worn in gear and good people! Enjoy your weekend!
A very kind man doing his job, but he can't stop you from being on a public street, provided it was a street and not a private property access road Cash is the only guy to ever get video of Derek and the Dominos, which is quite an accomplishment. Awesome Strat. Mine's a ',93 i got brand new
I was driving around this morning by myself with my mind going 1000 different places with all the should’ve would’ve could haves. Thank you for the song. Cheered me up .
Expanding my horizons by listening . Just wanted to say, that through your channel I have learned so much, and you have brought so many voices and stories to many people that give new perspectives. Art and artistry brings some calm to not only the savage beast, but to all of us, and that’s a great thing. One of the best introductions for me was Kenny Vaughn, forget the talent for one second…..what a great guy, who wouldn’t want to have Kenny for a friend, and you too, and so many others. I watched Kenny at Dee’s Lounge on his 70th birthday and I would not have known Kenny or Dee’s if it were not for you… Thank You. Keep up the good work.
One more thing nice tune by the way....... McCartney spent some time in Nashville...in 74 stayed on curly Putnam farm.. Recorded a country inspired McCartney original called Sally g. Think he recorded junior's farm also Cherry Atkins on it.if memory serves ...along with Nashville studio cats Right on otis! ........And I believe Putnam wrote green green grass of home
I didn't know it when I first clicked on this video but it was the perfect way to start my day. It made me want to play music again after a long hiatus. Thanks Otis.
An article years ago quoted Grandpa Jones saying that banjo playing should be fun. Unable to play Scrugg's style he almost quit. I was in the same boat, I can't righthand roll to save my life. Jones settled it in his mind and continued flailing, I stopped beating myself up and continued plectrum style. Right down the line: it's supposed to be fun! Another fine video, Otis. Thanks.
Sounds great, Otis! The band backing you is perfect. I would love to see a show in my neck of the woods sometime. I'm not holding my breath but we are down here on the FL panhandle right between P'cola and Panama city. I always have to travel 5-8 hours west, north, or east to see any music of note. Kinda dry down here. Anyway, all the love for you and yours! Thanks for the ditty!
I must've have watched a dozen or more of your videos without picking up on the fact you had a band. That Caroline song is really great! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheers
One of my fave installments so far, yeah for the historical factoids , but the gear rundown with your band and especially that song! Brought tears. Music should make us feel something and I have to admit that after 50 years as a musician, my skin gets too thick to things. But that excellent performance of a beautiful song got through. Thank you.
Always love your stories Otis, thank you! Love hearing you guy's play. Sounded great!!! You ever need a bass player, let me know and i'll come down from Canada🤣😂🤣 Peace, really enjoyed this video!
Enjoyed video! It was cool to leave in the first part (getting busted). Lol.. Liked the song despite my closed caption making up some of its own words. Ha! Band sounds great!
Love the band and it was a pleasure to sit in on a bit of your rehearsal. You make my Saturday mornings brighter every single week, Otis. I sure wish I could hear you guys play live, but I live up in the Northwest and I guess that would be a far way to come for a gig. Portland, where I live has lots of places you'd do well at. Seattle has a few small venues, too, that are super cool and laid back. If you come out this way you could hit a lot of places in between as well. Missouri. Colorado. Eastern Oregon (Spokane). Central Oregon (Eugene, Bend). I'm sure you have fans like me that would hook you up with places to stay for the whole band. Might not be luxurious, but we'd be proud to have you in our towns. The welcome mat will be out if you ever want to drift westward.
Great stories, a confrontation with authority, guitar talk and all rounded off with a great performance of a great song. That's the best show I've seen this year so far in ANY medium!!

'Ole Audiophile to Otis Gibbs: My mother was from Tennessee & loved listening to music. We kept an A.M. Radio on the kitchen counter powered up dawn through dusk at least six days a week until my father saw his way into purchasing Mom a huge console stereo hifi for the living room. We all grew up listening to country music in a big way typically on WSLR/whistler radio. Johnny Cash was a huge part of that. Eventually as a kid, I became fairly disgusted with all the twang in Country, especially ole' traditional country artists. I went my way while mom went hers upstairs in the living room. That's the way it stood for a long time. I eventually softened my stance as I became accustomed to more different styles of music. Then, lo & behold, Johnny Cash covered Nine Inch Nails. Wow! My mind was blown. Little about Johnny Cash surprises me now, least of all this. Thanx.
Hi Otis. I'm liking the slight change in style but keeping it real as always. We both share a room in rustic heaven too with lovely old Pbass and Strat and the old practice room with the paint pealing. Great song too and informative and entertaining video as always
Hi Otis I've been meaning to tell you this.....I know your a working musician and that's your life and passion....but dude you have a great look and speaking voice..... you're natural drawl and head tone fantastic you really ought to think about acting..case in point levon helm I'm telling man jump in get an agent I promise you you will be cast ...and there's a great chance you can you're material in the project also.
Never ending fountain of stories and thanks for letting us be a fly on the wall to your band practice. Man, i hope you guys make it out to play Phoenix someday 🙏🏻
Thank you, Otis and band 🙏🏻 Great stories and a lot of history in those people. Nothing like getting busted 😂😂 at least he was cool about it. I remember listening to "Wings Over America" as a young boy, probably before I remember listening to The Beatles. Too young to realize who was who, and too young to care. I just liked the music. Happy Saturday, Otis Be good to you 🙏🏻🤍
Otis, you're just one of them danged hippies! You tried to be cordial, but the dude wasn't having it. In the words of Stephen Stills, 'it makes me wonder' what's going on that they're so secretive about? Great post! OG from Idaho Keep'em coming!!
Hang onto those guitars boys. Mark Knopfler just auctioned off his collection for a shit ton of money, could help your retirement should the day come. And for those of you unfamiliar with Midwest Nice, you got a good example of it at the beginning of the video, on both sides. May not be great , but it's real.
Band sounds fantastic! Great feel...
Sound is excellent Otis. Great sound with drums and an unmiked acoustic👍🏼
Great job. I love it. Adversity’s around every corner at times. You overcame it well. I really like the song. Thanks for the inspiration!✌️
Thank you. Looking forward to attending a live show one day,
As much as I enjoy your work as an American music roots historian. I really enjoy hearing you as a working musician. Thks for another tune.
They work both together as when Woody Guthrie could sing ‘Tom Joad’ as a salute and passing on John Steinbeck’s ‘Grapes of Wrath’. Story and song are the working hands of passing knowledge. ☮
Beautiful song.
Thanks for the story, Otis and the song
The algorithms like to play tag with the free spirited ☮
Cool song, man...thanks for another video...hope you all and yours are doing well today!

And I thought I was just here for the Paul & Johnny story, pleasant surprise for the ride along for your band rehearsal and member’s stories !

I really enjoyed this song and your rehearsal. Sounds to me like this one is ready! Great-channel you have, Otis. Thank you from SW Michigan.
Great tune and real comfortable relaxed performance - just right. Same with how you handled the requested exit stage left at the first site
Enjoyed the beginning Johnny Cash was being Channeled when you got "Busted" I thought of the song when you had said the word. Lol
One more thing nice tune by the way.......
McCartney spent some time in Nashville...in 74 stayed on curly Putnam farm..
Recorded a country inspired McCartney original called Sally g.
Think he recorded junior's farm also
Cherry Atkins on it.if memory serves ...along with Nashville studio cats
Right on otis!

That immediate post-Beatle-era with Wings that is covered in "Wings Over America" was unique time with a uniquely talented group of people.
Thanks Otis and band. Great tune.🎶

Sounds great Otis! When are you coming back to the Netherlands
Gotta love that Hoosier soul music! Go Gordo!
You could go across the street to Happy Days. They’d be cool with it I’m sure. And the coffee is pretty good too.
Very cool.
Nice performance, I’d like to see more.
Otis, you're just one of them danged hippies! You tried to be cordial, but the dude wasn't having it. In the words of Stephen Stills, 'it makes me wonder' what's going on that they're so secretive about?
Great post!
OG from Idaho
Keep'em coming!!
I liked the look into your bands world. That room looks interesting, can you tell us about it some time?
That Strat, beautiful.

Hey Otis I hope to see your concert in Key West in April
Hang onto those guitars boys. Mark Knopfler just auctioned off his collection for a shit ton of money, could help your retirement should the day come. And for those of you unfamiliar with Midwest Nice, you got a good example of it at the beginning of the video, on both sides. As a lifelong resident of Indy, I’m always surprised at you original locations for shooting your videos Otis.
Really nice Otis
❤❤❤
That was a nice song brother!
The old playbowl in Irvington plaza in the background cool
