Tone Test | Scott Dixon Aluminium Speaker Cab

- The folks at Scott Dixon say they've pulled a big cab sound out of a lightweight aluminium cab, so I did a comparison against a 1x10 and 4x12 with the same amp settings and no studio trickery to see if it delivered the goods.
You tell me.

Great straight to the point.
Great comparison. In comparison to the VOX and Marshall the Scott Dixon speaker cab seems to lack low end or is it because of the mic position? Either way a lightweight and sturdy cab does have its benefits.
Thank you! It does lack low end in comparison but I'm sure that could be eq'd back in to take advantage of the light weight. All speakers were mic'ed exactly the same - edge of the dust cap for close mic, and the same room mic time aligned. I think it was a very good representation of what I was hearing in the room.
I must have watched this video 100 times on repeat. Love it! Great comparison Rick. My experience has been that heavier boxes ten to have bigger low end. I think this comparison shows that well. I'm surprised at how well the little AC10 mics up.
excellent speaker comparison
Thank you :)
That's tough. I would have guessed the marshall but ultimately I liked the Vox best and the Dixion 2nd. I'm in the process of scaling down and I have just bought a Friedman PT 20, down from a modded JCM 2204 800 and picked up a used 1x12 Egnator cab, down from a Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks. Not crazy about the Egnator's tone. I might try sealing the back and or swapping out the speaker for a Green back. But that Dixon looks pretty cool. Glad I found your channel!
I had an Egnater 1x12 I wasn't crazy about either. I think the Scott Dixon could do with a different speaker in it to be a little less ice-picky around the 3-4k area. The light weight is great for an ageing rocker like me though. Also Check out Kammler cabinets for a big sounding 1x12 cab. I'll be doing a quick tone comparison of one of those soon. I'm glad you found me too and thank you for your subscription, assuming you did ;)
My summary of this video.:
Vox = cleaner more presence
Marshall = muscular and loud
Dixon = better for clean sounds
like Jazz, R&B, Reggae, C&W, and Funk in my opinion.
When the guitarist pick up the 2x12 cabinet I was quite impressed.
The days of lifting and transporting great sounding and expensive all tube boutique behemoths are long gone for the average guitarists.🎸🎼🎵🎶
Peter Callaway that’s a good summary.
Hawt damn! Them Neo speakers are pretty shrilly sounding.
Yep. Agreed.
I saw a video with the Scoot Dixon speaker cabs were terrific!
This European guy was testing a pedal size power amp through a 1x12 and a 2x12 Scott Dixon aluminum cabs and it sounded great!
Better than a boutique amp?
Well pretty close through a Helix top of the line multi effects pedal.
These speakers are not back strainers.
They are great for travel/fly rig.

Are you okay? What happened to your toe?
I'm ok, Mikky. My foot was a little bruised the next day.
