    Another nice film! Thanks.
    I remember going down to Key Largo in late 70s and early 80s to vist my Aunt and Uncle. On rough days my uncle would flat out tell me " If you weren't here kid, I wouldn't be out here on a day like this "

      Thanks for watching our channel. The Keys must have been amazing in the 70s and 80s! You must have done great memories of your grandfather and those early Keys years. Stay tuned, more great videos to come!

      Elizabeth and I just did a trip today. Snorkeling and boating only but it was great. Stay tuned for some underwater action soon.

      Patch reefs are where it’s at when the wind and the offshore waves are just too much. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Dan I love watching your content, catching or not. Off the coast of NC/SC the seas today are 3-5 which mean a lot of 6's. No patch reefs and trolling 45-80 miles out. If NC was not my home I would surely be in the Keys or as close as I could afford. Keep it up.

      Sixes are just not doable! It’s amazing to us just how “off” the marine forecast can be from day to day. Thanks for being a member of our channel. It helps a lot!

    We completely relate to the things you are talking about. We spend a week there every winter and rent a boat. Having to plan the trip well in advance we are always at the mercy of the winds. Love these videos!!

    We like all the information that you give how do you tell the male from the female hogfish and thank you for info on targeting the species that you’re fishing for?

    • @FloridaFishingCouple
      @FloridaFishingCouple  3 місяці тому

      Here are the 7 things you likely didn't know about Hogfish:
      The Hogfish uses its elongated pig-like snout to rummage and graze for crustaceans that are buried beneath the sand. The shape of its snout and the way it uses it is what gave the Hogfish its name.
      Juvenile Hogfish start out as female and then become male as they mature.
      Hogfish have been recorded to live for up to 11 years.
      Hogfish social communities are quite interesting, with one male mating with and protecting a group of females.
      The common name for Hogfish in Spanish is “doncella de pluma” which literally translates to “feathered maiden”.
      Males tend to be more intensely colored than females with a signature black spot behind the pectoral fins. Females are a pale grey or brown with males exhibiting brighter red or orange colors.
      Even though they are a part of the wrasse family, Hogfish are closely related to parrot fish.

    Hog fish is my favorite. I used to spear them and you're right it's ridiculous that you have to throw back a dead 15". My last few fishing trips to the keys the weather has sucked. Except the Short Key trip, that was fun. Hopefully I can go fishing one of these days

    The last 3 years Ive come down its been brutal. Luckily Im just in Tampa so I can get out off Clearwater anytime I want. I dont think Ill be making the trip down for a long time. trying to fish in 4-6 and 5-7 all week is no fun.

    • @FloridaFishingCouple
      @FloridaFishingCouple  3 місяці тому

      I agree. We came here from the Sarasota area and it was great for a few years. Now it’s just always windy and 5 footers every day. Been a real challenge.

      @@FloridaFishingCouple Our last trip down. it took us 3 hours to get from Key largo to Marathon with the traffic( we stayed right behind the large Tiki hut at the 7 mile bridge). I live 4 miles from the ramp here in Pinellas county so making the trip is getting harder to justify. If I want to fish and dive patch reef I can do the same thing just south of Crystal river the only thing we dont get is lobster and clear blue water. But the gags, mangos and hog fish are actually bigger then the keys.

    Your wife doesn't need fake eyelashes and you brought nothing for dinner ???? oh and teach Heiko how NOT to drop his catches back into the ocean...................tell him to unhook the fish inside the boat not over the rail !!!
