Yay another strom 800 vid :) i ordered the vstrom 800 re(road oriented) and will get it in 3 weeks, cant wait. until then i have to do with videos. keep up the good content. ill watch the rest now!
How tall are you, and does the taller screen keep most of the wind off? For smaller folks the stock windshield might be okay, but being 6'5 it's a little small...
What were you riding before? I have a deposit on one but my prior bike was an HD 48 and I'm currently riding an HD M8 street Bob. Looking for something more practical and all around useful. Test rode a 650XA, and the 1050 is just too expensive. Have deposit on an RE not a DE tho.
It's really a great bike. The exhaust seems so quiet because of all the wind noise from the small windscreen, so if you change it out to a bigger one you will hear the exhaust much better.
I considered getting the base model in grey or the transalp and put crash bars and luggage on then I looked in this adventure model 800de and it was 1500 dollars cheaper just to buy this over adding all thar stuff plus the sparkle black and blue with the gold wheels is beautiful.. and I put the oem suzuki tall windshield on for 65 bucks extra and was a game changer
Good stuff. Thanks. Not huge fan of your manner of speaking. But you convey things in a way that gives us a real sense of the bikes. And not as jokey-jokey every 3 seconds as many channels.
Thanks for mentioning the adjustable quick shift. I've heard various comments on it on the several commenters and reviewers UA-cam channels. It's surprised me how most of them at first all had negative comments about the quick shifter, saying that it was clunky or unrefined. Then later I heard a few saying how much they loved it. It seemed odd considering that the praise for the GSX 1000GT was almost universally high for the quick shifter. I'm thinking most of these reviewers of the DL 800 have not known that the quick shifter is adjustable. I am wondering if it's adjustable on all of the 776 based bikes
I've got a 2020 650XT and am thinking about upgrading to the 800DE. I test rode it and loved the engine. But I don't like the tubed tires, and the bike is a bit tall for me vs the 650. Premium octane is also way more expensive up here. But, it was way more fun. Tough call. I'm in Oregon, by the way, so have great placed to ride (like you).
If I were in your situation, I would put on an exhaust (ua-cam.com/video/cCiNcXGAk7A/v-deo.html), and I'd keep the 650. You always acclimate to more power, but you can make lower power more exciting by adding some nice sound. Only kicker would be if you ride off pavement regularly or take a passenger, because then the improved suspension will be nice.
12:30 for your safety, stay on first gear, and look on the back always on the lights. As for a motorcycle, do you like this color? I'm before the buy and this is biggest problem for me. Which color to pick xd
The aluminium panniers are the wrong choice for this bike, get the plastic ones. Narrower, little less volume though but they are rated for more weight OTOH. Plus they looks nicer.
how do you review an ADV bike and not go offroad? i want to know what its like hitting a log dose the suspension bottom out easy? how is it in deep sand/mud? is managable in slow technical riding?
You know its frustrating for manufacturers when the people cant be pleased easily. Its just kind of funny haha you wish there was an analogue tach and here i am glad that they dont have analogur anything and just a beautiful big screen
I bought the base model. Now I'm struggling to find luggage for it. How do you like the headlight? I hate mine. The dealer adjusted it (slightly) and it's still terrible. I used to own a Tiger 800XC and this bike is worlds better in almost every regard.
Don't waste time trying to fix the OEM headlights on any bike. Just install crash bars and install accessory LED lights on those bars. I really don't understand why manufacturers can't get some basics right- lights, seats, windscreens etc. Perhaps they do it purposely to cut costs and also support the aftermarket accessory companies.
@@justathinker8669 I suspect they do it to pad the bottom line. Have you seen Suzuki's accessory prices for the 800DE? $700 for fog-lights! $400 for heated grips! The mirrors too narrow. However, in a totally bizarre coincidence, they just happen to sell mirror wideners. What are the odds? 🙄
Thanks for the video. I don’t know what it is between your video footage and the latest UA-cam app but this is the highest quality video footage I’ve ever seen on my large screen iPhone. It felt like I was right there riding the bike.
I really like this bike . Only thing keeping me from buying one is the colour choices . I absolutely hate them all. Lol 🤷🏻♂️ The grey isn’t bad, but they ruin it with yellow . And the other options are white or yellow or black with what they call blue, but the blue is purple to my eyes .. and it looks absolutely gross with the gold/bronze wheels . (And I hate purple)
Great bike but several significant cons: engine high vibration, heat emission (right leg), terribly heavy, tub tires. If exhaust is too quiet, go to plumbing store and buy some pipe.
My engine doesn't have any significant vibrations. I also don't notice any excessive heat.. like it's warm for sure but so is any gas bike. Definitely heavy. Not much different than a transalp once you cover up the sump with a skid plate, tho. Probably like +25lb on a transalp that is ready to go offroad. That plumbing store pipe will make em even ;)
Terribly heavy? How so? It's a touring bike. The T in ADV is silent. It stands for touring. That explains the huge fuel tank, sturdy sub-frame and factory luggage.

My 650 cost $5,300 brand new in 2018 (2017 model). Such a great bike. This new one is very nice though.

Looks like much less weather protection from bodywork.
I’m ready to take the leap with the RE, but the fact that Suzuki chose not to put cruise control on it is really holding me back
if your riding roads that require cruise control your doing something wrong
