    Not kidding i just face palmed myself, I have been recording my voice with garbage band and capturing with Elgato. I never knew you could capture your voice through the elgato. Im an idiot! Great video series dude! Just a quick one: is there anything I can do about audio commentary input lag? I'm using a Blue Yeti USB microphone but can't seem to figure out a way to kill off the delay between my input & what I hear back in my headphones while I'm recording. Am I missing something here? Thanks again!

      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому

      Hi mate, what console and headphones are you on?

    • @MichaelLowmanMusic
      @MichaelLowmanMusic 7 років тому

      I'm on a PS4 & have been using my studio Audio-Technica headphones. I'm also running a new MacBook Pro 15inch with more than enough processing power for the Elgato HD60 S. I've tried a bunch of different things, but can't find a way to deal with the 'slap-back' effect i'm getting with my commentary (in real time) ...& i'm not keen on muting the mic audio feeding into my cans either, I need to hear myself.
      So to recap: i've got my Elgato HD60 S setup correctly with my PS4 & my Mac. Sound & visuals work perfectly. I've then got a Blue Yeti USB mic connected to my Mac. It works perfectly as well. All setting are good & I receive signal from everything. The only issue I'm having is the .50sec delay between when I speak & when I hear that audio in my headphones. Driving me nuts man. Thanks for taking the time to think about this. Appreciate it.

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому

      +Michael Lowman All good man. Usually with gaming headsets they let you monitor your voice directly from the headset. What I mean by that is, when you talk in to your mic, the headset splits that sound in to 2 signals and sends one to the recording software or console, and it sends the other directly to your headphones without any delay.
      But the headphone you have aren't directly connected to your microphone. So the microphone first has to send your voice through the USB cable, through your Macs audio software, and then down the audio cable of your headphones and in to your ears. This introduces latency, and is impossible to avoid because sound can only physically travel at a certain speed.
      I'm not sure with Macs because I don't use them, but you may be able to set the latency so low on the mic that it's not noticeable.
      Search Google for 'Soundflower'. That software let's you split the mic signal in to 2 amd will send one copy of it to your headphones before going through the Elgato software. I'm not 100% sure if it will work though because as I said, I don't use Macs, but my friends who arr DJs use it.
      In all honesty, for all the hassle and time it takes to figure all that out, you'd likely just be better spending $100 or whatever and getting some Turtle Beach Stealth 400s,amf thr problem will be instantly solved, and they sound good too. I'm a music producer / studio engineer and I use those for gaming just fine :)
      Good luck man.

    Finally some tutorials that make sense! Videos are dope. I'm also using a Surface Pro 4 so these tutorials have been helpful.
    ...my Tv doesn't have a headphone jack, just a digital audio and standard A/V cables. I'm using a Turtle Beach Elite Pro headset. I tried plugging in to the SurfacePro and it works for commentary on the Elgato software.
    I am going to connect my stream Mic into the Xbox so I may communicate with other players.
    Will that setup work? or am I missing something? SurfacePro only has one USB port so you know how limited options are.

    can you please elaborate more on what you said at 06:41- 07: 01 when you said if you have a wired headphones setup what does someone need to do? you honestly did cover the logic to it..like the outs and ins...but where does someone attach the headphones to the ps4? at the back? on the controller? where? Also, do we need certain cables or splitters so that the audio will be split goin to the laptop and to the monitor? if its okay with you, you can do a follow up video on this so that i can fully understand and you can help others as well..It would be nice if you could reply asap or do a follow up video so that I can fully grasp on it..Thanks! Hi mate, yeah I mention it throguh the series that wired headphones can either be plugged in to your monitor or a home stereo, you can't plug them in to your PS4. It's in the hardware setup vid, the first in thos series.

    Thanks again for your concise steps by steps. I want to clarify to make sure I'm on point - this is a follow up from my previous question on your first video in the series where I couldn't get my voice to be recorded. So - with my wireless Turtle Beach 400's, they came with a USB connection that I assume powers the wireless radio/antenna - this usb stick plugs directly into my PS4 Pro. Attached to this USB stick is a small optical cable that goes around the side of my PS4 Pro and plugs into the Optical plug in the back of the PS4. My understanding is that if I instead plug the USB stick into my PC instead of the PS4, not only will the wireless antenna / radio be powered but it will then also transmit my voice so that the game capture HD software will then pick up the mic on my turtle beach headset when I turn live commentary on. Did I understand that correctly?
    Thanks again for your insight!

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому +1

      Yeah mate, so the USB transmitter (I’ll just call it USB stick) does 2 things. It transmits audio (game audio and your friends talking) to the headphones, and it also receives mic audio (your voice) from the mic on the headphones. So it’s 2 way (send/receive).
      Now, let’s focus on the game audio first. If you plug the USB stick in to the USB port on the PS4 (with no optical cable attached), game audio will be pulled from that USB port on the PS4, and sent to your headset. The problem here is, the PS4 can’t send audio to that USB port on the PS4 AND to the HDMI port (going to your capture card) at the same time. Here is where the Optical cable comes in.
      The PS4 CAN send audio (game and your friends talking) down the Optical Cable AND to the HDMI at the same time. So by plugging that Optical cable in to both the PS4, and the USB stick, the game audio (and your friends talking) is pulled from that Optical port and fed in to the USB stick directly (bypassing the PS4’s USB port) where it is transmitted to your headset.
      The mic audio is independent of this. Whatever you plug that USB stick in to is where your mic audio (your voice) will be sent to. Plug it in to your recording PC with the Elgato software and you can record it. Plug it back in to the PS4 and your friends will hear you talk. But you can’t do both. Hence the need for a second USB microphone.
      UNLESS you and all your friends are chatting on Skype/Teamspeak/Discord on the same PC you are recording on because that USB stick will be plugged in to your recording PC, and you and your friends are all chatting through that same PC.
      Does that make sense?

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому +1

      Oh, and the USB stick also provides power to the transmitter inside it, but not power to your headphones. The headphones have their own battery inside which you charge with a USB cable

    • @Cam-xg4xe
      @Cam-xg4xe 7 років тому

      Gotcha -- so if I want to do just my own commentary on single player campaign gameplay or my own commentary on a livestream by myself - I'll want to plug the USB stick into my PC so that Elgato recognizes the mic on my Turtle Beach headset. If I want to have friends in my party or opponents voices recorded as well as my own voice, I need to then have a secondary mic plugged in to my PS4. Am I on track?

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому +1

      +Cam 100% spot on.
      If you're doing both, it can be easier (depending on how far away your PS4 is from your PC) to just have the USB plugged in to PS4 with the optical cable going in to it, and then plug the second USB mic in to your PC.
      This way you still have a mic going to your PC to record your voice, a mic going to your PS4 so your friends can hear you, and the optical cable is still sending game and chat audio to your headset without interfering with the HDMI game audio going to your capture card.

    • @Gam3rC4m

      Alrighty, I think I got it then. Thanks again for your help! Off hand - do you happen to know if Playstation NOW will work with HDCP turned off? Currently, the PS4 Pro won't record gameplay completed through PS NOW which is one of the reasons I was looking to use Elgato (Aside from better livestream options). With Elgato, I figured I could then capture older playstation games without having to break out my PS3 or PS2 and deal with buying older cords etc. But if HDCP has to be turned on for PS NOW to work, Elgato won't work :(

    Hi Firstly thanks very much for taking the timeout to make these posts I've found them very useful but I am still confused about the audio set up. Having an issue with sound...I have a Razer Kraken Pro wired headset, Sony Vegas, PS4, Samsung Smart TV, El Gato HD 60, HP Envy i7 laptop and I have just bought the Blue Ice Snowball and a pop filter as I do want to record excellent quality. I would like to be able to game whilst chatting in party chat to my guildies (I play Neverwinter) but then add some commentary later via my Snowball. If I plug my headset in directly to my controller I think that is causing poor audio issues. Ideally I want the game sound recorded seperately to the voice chat so I can edit that chat or delete it in preference for recorded chat on the Snowball. I would also like to add music - do you have any links for decent copyright free locations? Hope that is not too confusing. I have some clips recorded but until resolving these issues don't want to put anything together fully.
    Cheers

    Hey mate! I’m just wondering if the plantronics RIG500 gaming headset works with setup 4 you showed in this video? (I’ve got an elgato HD60 s by the way)
    If they don’t work with setup 4 could you recommend some other great gaming headphones that aren’t overpriced, I’m willing to pay a decent amount though..
    I’m from Australia myself So pretty cool to see an Aussie on UA-cam that’s actually killing it! Great channel and great vids and you honestly do a world class job at explaining and making tutorials on things, MAD RESPECT MY MAN! 👊🤘

      +Holdsworth Productions hi mate, thanks for the kind words :) The rig 500's can either be used as normal wired headphones or USB headphones. If you are a PC gamer then they are fine. If you are on PS4 or Xbox though you'd need to upgrade to something like the Turtle Beach Stealth 400's, 500's or 80's, as these are wireless headphones that have both the optical and USB connections required that I cover in the vids. I use the Stealth 400's and since I bought them gaming has sounded better and recording has been waaaay easier. Also Astro A40's and A50's are in the same bracket and work too. All will work fine with HD60s

      And when you have to add another mic juts so your friends can hear you can that just be a cheap earphone mic? Lol
      If it’s possible I’d love to message you on Twitter or somewhere to chat more

    Does your voice travel the reverse direction from the TV to the laptop?? You have your arrows going in one direction, so how does the laptop get your voice overlay??

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  6 років тому

      Your voice goes from your microphone in to your laptop. It will also come out of your laptop speakers if you have your speakers turned up but you don't want to do that otherwise you'll cause a feedback loop (your mic will pick up your voice from you amd from the laptop speakers at the same time = not good), so you want your speakers turned down for that reason. And so your voice should only travel from your mic in to your laptop

    Hi. I have a question. The series is excellent, but what if I want to add a video recorder / camera into the mix to record, such as a Canon. How would this work? any ideas?

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому

      +Spikey Lemon That camera would have to be able to be used as a webcam. A lot of DSLR cameras can't do that, some can though.
      Alternatively, record the camera footage separately and line it up in editing (a pain in the ass but it works)

    im using the first setup with a blue snow ball but it keeps picking up my ps4 fan sound and ruins my audio, is it worth it to get the at2020 or a blue snowball that way hopefully they would only pick up my voice....can anyone help me!!!!

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому

      +NourCentia Hi mate, buying another condenser microphone (the snowball and AT2020's are both condenser microphones) won't help as these type of microphones are very sensitive and pick up a lot of background noise, which is actually what makes your voice sound good through them.
      Your best bet is to try and isolate the fan noise. You can do this by not having the PS4 so close to your mic. By putting something in between the PS4 and the mic like putting your PS4 under a desk with your mic on top of the desk. Or you can clean the fan on your PS4 to help reduce fan noise.
      Essentially your mic just needs to be further away, or not in a direct line of sight from your PS4

    • @NourCentia
      @NourCentia 7 років тому

      Thanks for the Reply!!! and hmmm i guess il just have to look at other youtubers set ups and move my ps4 away from the mic because right now i have my snowball on a microphone stand at the side of my computer so probably just have to get longer wires and have my ps4 somewhere else.

    So I've been running into bit of an issue with the Live Commentary recording. When I go to look over my video before I start editing, sometimes my commentary just drops for about 5 or so seconds, literally cutting me off in mid-commentary, and just recently, I've also run into an issue where the commentary track made a weird noise before going back to normal. Honestly, the whole thing is driving me up a wall, and yes, while I can use Audacity, I'd prefer to try to do everything in the same program. If you have the time, I can upload a clip of the latest incident if it can help give you some insight to my issue. I know it has to do with the program and not my Yeti mic, because the dropping never happens in the Audacity recording when I decide to try recording two commentaries side-by-side. Any help would be great.

    • @F4CEpa1m
      @F4CEpa1m  7 років тому

      Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. Should definitely be able to do it all in the Elgato software.
      In the Windows taskbar, right-click on the speaker icon and click on 'Recording Devices'. Right click on your Yeti mic and click on 'Properties', then choose 'Advanced'. From the 'Default Format' drop-down menu, choose '2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality), click 'Apply', then 'OK'.
      Does that help the situation? I know the Elgato software records natively at a 48000 Hz sample rate. If your mic is set to a different sample rate it can cause conflicts.

    • @bassdsex2087
      @bassdsex2087 7 років тому

      Definitely not that.My mic is set up with those settings. I turned off a couple things in the Elgato software, but I haven't had a chance to do a long record session to test it out to see if those changes I made work.
