Great song guys! I'm a Grayson county native and grew up in Galax, VA. Also, I am the artist who painted the backdrop on the stage of the Rex Theatre. It's great to see that it's still in use. Keep up the great work. Craig Bond.
Back in 1990 I bailed out of my apartment, took my rent money and bought a Greyhound ticket from Tucson to DC to see my gal... we had our 22nd weddin anniversary this summer... I can relate...
I RECENTLY JUST HEARD THIS GROUP ON PBS AND I KEEP PLAYING IT SO TODAY I LOOKED THEM UP ON GOOGLE AND AND HEARD SO MUCH MORE. I JUST LOVE THEM. CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THEM. I NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEFORE.
Bluegrass music....what is it about this genre?? It could be a song about crops getting flooded away, your woman getting pissed at you and leaving you for another man, your dog dying, wheels falling off your horse-drawn wagon, then your horse dying, lastly the bank coming to take your farm,....and it still puts me in a good mood.
One of the most 'American' towns I saw on my trip around that country. Sadly I hit it kind of late on in the evening and most of the stores were shut. Had some tasty ribs though in a place on the corner. Bluegrass Unlimited magazine brought me here. I'll get back to Galax VA some day and do the entire Blueridge Parkway.
These guys are awesome. They just keep on amazing me, there is no quit in this group. Can't wait to meet and greet at Rudyfest on June 23 at 3:30 & 9:30. Keep up the good work guys. Thanks Russell, Steve, Edgar, Wayne, Justen and especially Donnie for making the group sound so breathtaking good. Richard Lewis Adams County Ohio

soooooo good, i´ve got a Southern' soul!
I found the song´s lyrics, for all the bluegrass lovers!
Well I’ve been saving nickels and lookin’ for dimes
Cleanin’ out my pockets for all the money I can find
‘Cause my days are filled with sadness and every night I pine
For my sweetheart’s in Virginia and I’m in ‘Caroline
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
I jumped an open freight car thought that would be alright
‘Till the brakeman caught me sleepin’ in the middle of the night
So I’ve been out here walkin’ with my thumb up in the air
Checkin’ passin’ cars for someone to get me there
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
Now she can play the fiddle best you’ve ever heard
And when she sings a sad song I hang on every word
Been so long since I’ve seen her in that little mountain town
I just need someone to pick me up and lay that hammer down
Hey mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax
Mister won’t you take me farther on down the tracks
I’ve got to find a way can’t wait another day
To see my pretty little girl from Galax

0:24 jeb bush?
tune is lot like the Cherokee Shuffle (qv)
I know that girl they're singing about.
HURRA!!
Wish someone would look at me like she looks at him when he gets off the bus..
Love the song. But it's just the opposite from me as I'm the guy in East Virginia Blues.
Two videos of friends today added www.countryway.cz/index.php/videa-mates
Filling. Not Filling..Darn Auto Correct
CMT would never show this because it is actually good music, not this junk they call country music or a stupid reality show.
Thumbs down because that doesn't sound as much fun.
Love it!!
