  • Canada is the best country to live in the world, according to the United Nations. It's also one of the happiest and safest countries in the world.
Do you know that more than 300,000 people made a move to Canada in 2018?
Canada is one of the few countries that doesn't just want temporary workers, it wants citizens from around the world.
This means that it has loosened the requirements needed to apply to become a citizen of the country.
Applicants only have to live in the country for three years in a five year period instead of four years now to qualify.
No matter where you live in Canada, your children have access to free public education from the time they are five to around the age of 19 depending on the province or territory.
Are you planning to move to Canada?
Here are the 10 best places to live in Canada for new immigrants:
    10. Montreal, Quebec. (affordable place, raise a family)
    9. Vancouver, British Columbia. (most active city, job, best to raise kids)
    8. Toronto, Ontario. (retire, job)
    7. Kingston, Ontario. (best place to retire)
    6. Halifax, Nova Scotia. (place to find a job)
    5. Calgary, Alberta. (best to raise a family, find a job, high income)
    4. Burlington, Ontario. (most affordable housing, best to raise kids)
    3. Quebec City, Quebec. (family-friendly city, cheap place, best to retire, job)
    2. Oakville, Ontario. (Overall)
    1. Ottawa, Ontario. (best education, study, raise a family, retire)
Please remember, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to these rankings. It all depends on your individual needs and skills.
We hope you will find the right place for you and your family.

As someone who has lived in a ton of Canadian cities, I have settled on Victoria in British Columbia being the best. Extremely temperate weather, laid back lifestyle, quaint English feel downtown, and the natural to-do list never ends. The trend of young people moving there from everywhere because its still a city with all the amenities, but not devoid of character like somewhere like Calgary is huge. Economy is growing especially in the housing market, and as someone who works in healthcare you will never be jobless.

Canada has very good system for immigrants. It has a system based on education background and work experience. So immigrants mostly come to help improve Canada in terms of economy. Additionally, it makes population of Canada not to decrease but increase under control.

Provincial Nominee Programs, an integral and rapidly growing aspect of economic immigration to Canada, continued to extend invitations for permanent residence. In this month alone, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia have each issued invitations for permanent residence. These provinces invited several hundred candidates combined.
Meanwhile, Express Entry (EE), has already had its biggest year ever. IRCC has issued over 100,000 invitations in a year for the first time since Express Entry’s launch in 2015. The complex and varied structure of EE allows IRCC to respond to the challenges of the coronavirus. For example, by limiting many of EE draws this year to the Canada Experience Class, IRCC has been able to focus on individuals who are very likely to already be physically present in Canada. This said, IRCC has also opened draws to individuals in the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades classes.
Canadian immigration policy this year has been like Canada itself, battered and challenged in extraordinary ways but also tenacious and resilient and poised to reach even greater heights once we get through the pandemic.
We can draw comfort, as I do, from the countless acts of compassion and kindness that have illuminated the darkness of disease and dislocation. I think of the Nanji family from Uganda. They were expelled from Uganda when the dictator Idi Amin banished all people of South Asian origin from the country in 1972. They had three months to uproot, but they were able to find a haven, a home, and ultimately spectacular business success in Canada. They pledged to one day repay their adopted country for her kindness and hospitality. The Nanji family has done just that, already donating millions to various health causes. When the coronavirus hit, the family again stepped up to the plate and donated $1.6 million to hospitals fighting the disease. They sent $100,000 to sixteen different institutions. A family who came as refugees, climbed the ladder of economic success, and in the end, enriched their new home. Could there be a more quintessentially Canadian immigration story?
Wherever you are, and whichever holidays you celebrate, I wish you and yours good health, a Merry Christmas and happy New Year. May 2021 bring a return to normalcy, but also retain the kindness and creativity we have seen this past year.

I'm thinking about moving to Saskatchewan. Saskatoon seems like the perfect sized city, and you can buy a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom House in a safe neighbourhood for $200k. Plus overall living expenses are lower. With government subsidized car insurance I would only pay $80/mo compared to $300/mo in Calgary. Plus there's a lot of lakes with really nice beaches a little up north for an inexpensive get away vacation. The trade off is the winter temps, and from an outsider looking in there seems to be a lot of discrimination towards the first Nations community.

what do u guys think of halifax? i know real estate is cheap there and it seems beautiful and peaceful?
i live in toronto now, its fine here but i dont like the super cold winters. its too windy and the summers are too hot. it is a fun city but a little nervous vibe, too busy close to downtown. probably nicer in the suburbs.
i used to live in vancouver, my review of vancouver is that it is visually a naturally gorgeous city but gets depressing cos of the constant rain and cloudiness. also small city, gets a little boring. but winters are around 0c so thats very pleasant

The comment that in Halifax "The primary industry here is fishing and trawling" is just fascicle nonsense. Although Nova Scotia does have the largest fishing industry of all the Canadian Provinces, fishing comprises only a small part of the economy. Agriculture, forestry & fishing combined in 2018 made up a total of 3.2% of the economy.
