It should not be sprayed on greasy parts because WD 40 removes grease from surface. Some of the parts requires lubricated surface to function smoothly. WD 40 removes sticky and grease wherever you spray. So use WD 40 in selected areas otherwise you'll ruine everything.
Hey there, is used WD-40 on the gaps of front weindheld as i saw some rust in there and then i wiped it with cotton buds. But some WD surely will be staying there into the gaps after spraying . Will that harm the windshield silicone? And will that cause water leakage ino the car?
No WD40 does not cause any harm to the windshield glass in fact it is a good alternative to clean glass surface you can safely remove almost anything stickers, tape mark from glass
As a long term and extensive user, I disagree with your suggestions. NO, this doesn't "prevent" something from getting rust. This CUTS already present rust. It acts as lubricant to some degree as well.

Never as because brakes work by friction, and wd40 lubricates the parts to prevent friction but you can try the wd40 brake cleaner
