Boston is criminally underrated. Their debut album was recorded in the basement studio of Scholz. It is still one of the best selling debut albums. You should just skip the song reactions and react to the whole album. It is truly that good. I grew up on Boston and have flashbacks of family car trips back home during the holidays whenever I hear songs. So good.
I think the same thing is true for the first two albums. The second is almost just as good, and in my humble opinion, even MORE underrated. Look up "Don't Look Back."
Dude - you are so cool !!!! Boston was so underrated...so many artist in that time were just phenom !!! EW&F, Jethro Tull...too many to name. I don't know of a band today that can play like Boston. A little Boston in the morning with coffee = a good dang day !!!! Thanks for checking them out. 😘
Boston came out of nowhere and set the rock world on fire in 1976-77. Their mixture of electronic & acoustic instruments, harmonizing vocals, high energy, and Brad Delp’s incredible voice and vocal range was stunning. Demand was so high that every song on the album got radio airplay. Getting tickets was impossible. It became the best-selling debut album of all time and stayed that way for many years. When one of their songs came on the radio, especially “More Than A Feeling,” you got shushed if you were talking. Many fond memories of this album. Their second album in 1978 - “Don’t Look Back” - was also a huge seller - 7 million copies. It’s a great album as well, but nothing compared to their debut. Like Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” one for the ages.
These two songs were the opening tracks to their debut album. Remember that this was back in the day that there was album Rock, so they could play 9 minute songs. They played both of these songs together on the radio. Could you imagine a 9 minute song today? No way... 😁
When I was a kid back in the 70s riding my bicycle around this song was the measure of my wheelie popping ability. If I could ride a wheelie through four bars of that guitar riff in my head I was proud of myself.
Boston is the greatest rock band in history!!! Brad Delp was the absolute most talented rock singer EVER!! MY Forever favorite band! You need to hear "Smokin"......Incredible! ❤🤘🏼❤🤘🏼
When this song used to come on the radio (came out in the late 70's), they would cut off the beginning instrumental part and start with the vocals, so I was surprised the first time when I heard the full thing in its entirety. But, yes, great classic rock song. Boston has many more!
1978 wow! what a year! what a great great decade of music....!!!! thank you for letting me grow up in that era! blessed we are who did!! so much a part of our lives..memories are so special! thegreat concerts ! remember you all !!! we are the blessed generation!!!
Best Band ever,Tommy Sholts,a MIT graduate built a world class studio in his basement,,he invented the distortion pedal. Tommy Shults played every instrument except t&e drums,,That would be Sib Sibion,,who is The Rocks father in law..Brad Delp did all over the vocals
That would have been the best the to see them too...everyone at their best peak performance...I was only 7 when it cane out..lol...but I knew it was special even at that age..glad to have been exposed to it at such a young age
This album is one of the best ever produced; it was a huge blockbuster when it broke out in the mid-70’s. You gotta listen to the whole album. This was a staple for me and my friends back then!
On the radio, back in the day, foreplay wasn't played, just Long time. When I heard the entire album, I became an immediate Boston fan. Still a fan 44 years later.
Definately one of the great bands. All of Bostons records were essentially rock operas. The songs in order tell a story. Check out more of their music. Smokin', Rock and Roll Band are a couple of favorites. Have fun !
that part that you played back 2 or 3 times I can tell you ive heard it thousands of times and still cant hear it enough ! great music, from a great time and era in music, they don't make music like this no more and sadly never will again...back when musicians were musicians my friend
Patience young Skywalker ... Kansas has one that the words don't come in til 3/4 of song. (And that's because Kansas and Boston are the goats of instrumental.) #progrock
Best debut album of all time. Tom Scholtz had to design just about all of the equipment used to create the unique sound of Boston, having a musical and an engineering degree helps. He played most of the instruments himself and the album was recorded in his basement.
It wasn't until a couple of days ago I realized that the picture on the cover of their album was guitars upside down. I just thought it was space ships.
Most of these tracks off the first Boston album are some of the most famous and popular rock songs ever, so you probably have heard bits of them all kinds of places and ways.
Both of the first album's these guys produced are what I call road trip albums... You just put on the first song when you get in the car and drive all the way through...
This has been used in a commercial at least. And probably some movies/tv shows. And you’re completely right! If you don’t live that part, you don’t love & appreciate music!!! Love your reaction!!
TURN IT UP!!!! Boston being M.I.T. nerds designed their music to be listened to at 100dB. Turns out that your hearing is flat at 100dB. That means you hear the high notes at the same volume as middle and low notes. Your hearing becomes more volume "curved" at lower volume levels. Go back and listen to Boston TURNT UP and you will hear the difference. It definitely sounds better the louder it gets.
There are several rock songs which have "shadows". What I mean is that certain songs are frequently, if not always, played consecutively. Examples of this other than this song(s) are Led Zeppelin "Heartbreaker"/"Living Loving Maid", ZZ Top "Waiting For The Bus"/"Jesus Just Left Chicago", Elton John "Funeral for a Friend"/"Love Lies Bleeding" and there are others as well.
It's also cool to watch young whipper snappers, enjoy the historic music we grew up with. We new it was good, but had no idea it would be music industry changing.
This was the song that you would often pull up at the red light just as Foreplay ended and and moments later everyone at the intersection was rocking out, those were the days. Maybe you heard this in traffic coming from another car dialed into local FM Rock Radio?
The entire album is fabulous; it was their debut. I loved this album as a kid. React to every song on this album. Gen X, we grew up with the best music, so many talented musicians. You probably have heard More Than A Feeling and not realized who it was.
Good reaction, reminds me when I started listening to this the mid-70s. Playing it on a turntable, lifting up the needle to listen to Parts over again just like you were doing. awesome album
Hey Doc do you know which rock band is most sampled by rappers and hop hoppers?? It's STEELY DAN. If you wanna see where Kanye got Champion from, check Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne. Peace bro.
Tom Schultz was the originator of the concept of the band. He did most of the recordings himself playing every instrument and recruited Brad Delp on vocals. What i find fascinating , and i speak as an older fells, is that my guess is this album was released before you were born? This was 78 i think....so if you are younger than 43 then the album pre~dates you........
I might have some of the specifics off a bit but generally the following is what I recall... You'll have to do a little research on the backstory of this band. MIT graduates I believe... Their music was so technically sophisticated that it really couldn't be produced live very well... I believe they had a contract for three albums and basically stopped after the second. Pretty much every song on both albums is a classic. then they finally worked out their differences and the technology was there to actually tour (1988ish) and sound great. They produced their third and final album which also had many great songs. I was able to catch them five times on that final tour album.
MIT Graduate... singular, not plural. There wasn't even a band when Tom Scholz signed with the label. Outside of the vocals, this all Tom in his basement studio.
Great reaction!👍😎👍 Awesome track from one of the greatest debut albums of all time! If you’re interested in another great instrumental song, check out ‘Frankenstein’ by Edgar Winter.👍
I love Boston! Every song on their first album is a classic. Did you notice the UFOs on the cover are guitars? Another new group for you would be Sugarland, try official videos of their songs Stay and Stuck Like Glue
Artists had these things called-'ALBUMS', back inna day. They were Also called- Vinyls', because- THAT was what they were 'Made of. We played them on a thing called a thing called a-'TURNTABLE' or 'RECORD PLAYED', or- if you were able to 'affford' one, a 'STEREO'. Most folks, at that time- weren't able to Afford a STEREO, Now- the Artistswould 'Record' many Albums at once, & SOMETIMES they would- 'Repeat' a popular song. Love the rock reactions, Doc. But if you like good build ups, transitions and amazing drumming, you gotta check out Rush. Working Man Spirit of the Radio Tom Sawyer I think you'll really love it.
"The high note in the GUITAR"? Listen to the vocalist, he's going HIGHER than guitar 😅 If you wanna check out Brad Delp's (RIP) range, you have to check out "More Than A Feeling" by Boston...he has this bit towards the end that you won't even believe if you thought THIS was high...
Boston - same album “More Than A Feeling”. One of the greatest mainstream rock songs of all time. One of the most perfect rock songs ever recorded
Brad Delp was one of the best rock vocalists of all time. It's so unfortunate that we lose so many people to suicide. Love this band and song.
I had no idea that he killed himself, are you kidding??
@@suzanneprock7286 no he is not
Brad died of cancer
@@michaeltaylor8835 No ! He committed sucide !

I grew up on Boston and have flashbacks of family car trips back home during the holidays whenever I hear songs. So good.
Their debut album is in the top 10 albums of all time, easily, no questions asked. Maybe even top 5. It's just perfection, start to finish.
I think the same thing is true for the first two albums. The second is almost just as good, and in my humble opinion, even MORE underrated. Look up "Don't Look Back."
Dude, they're pretty much universally revered. Far from underrated.

Boston - Peace of Mind. Same album. The whole album really is great
Great? It's almost if not a masterpiece IMO.
@@Bobman-ml5qf It's the best debut album in history, even better than AfD

Boston is the greatest rock band in history!!! Brad Delp was the absolute most talented rock singer EVER!! MY Forever favorite band! You need to hear "Smokin"......Incredible! ❤🤘🏼❤🤘🏼
Have you not gone back down the Boston rabbit hole yet? This entire debut album is incredible.
When this song used to come on the radio (came out in the late 70's), they would cut off the beginning instrumental part and start with the vocals, so I was surprised the first time when I heard the full thing in its entirety. But, yes, great classic rock song. Boston has many more!
1976 - not on my 8 track it wouldn’t. Ain’t no skipping in my Barracuda.... 😬

Livin' for you by Boston. Great love song.

Those VOCALS - Brad Delp - NO AUTOTUNE - ALL BRAD..

I had the pleasure of working for Boston between 1976-1979.
As a kid in the 70's...this fascinated me. Set me on the road to being a musician.
Damn Boston is so good. Anything from this album is fire. This is their debut album too!
They had to prime you with foreplay for the eargasm they lay on you later with Long Time. LOL
Foreplay just a longer intro to where the longtime ride goes. Tip of the iceberg with this bands contribution to music
I was 16 when they debut in 76. saw them at MSG in NYC in 79. Great live show.
Quality shines all these years later.
That would have been the best the to see them too...everyone at their best peak performance...I was only 7 when it cane out..lol...but I knew it was special even at that age..glad to have been exposed to it at such a young age
My fav band, right after Queen. I soooo loved the 70's and got to live them. I love your reactions to the music that meant everything to me!
This album is one of the best ever produced; it was a huge blockbuster when it broke out in the mid-70’s. You gotta listen to the whole album. This was a staple for me and my friends back then!
Just think how stupid music executives felt after turning this guy down time and again finally he gets home studio and does it on his own
Another-'SUCCESSFUL SURGERY' performed by, none other than...DOC RICH !!! BOSTON- ROCKS !!!!
Gonna blow your mind
The entire album was recorded on a 12 track in Tom Scholz basement in the 70’s
On the radio, back in the day, foreplay wasn't played, just Long time. When I heard the entire album, I became an immediate Boston fan. Still a fan 44 years later.
Definately one of the great bands. All of Bostons records were essentially rock operas. The songs in order tell a story. Check out more of their music. Smokin', Rock and Roll Band are a couple of favorites. Have fun !
RIP Brad Delp for real though. Doesn't get near enough love.
I would put him up against Robert Plant or Steven Tyler or Freddie Mercury any day.
Any. Day.
Boston was a great band. This whole album is a classic and great.
that part that you played back 2 or 3 times I can tell you ive heard it thousands of times and still cant hear it enough !

This song has ALWAYS been amazing. R.I.P. Brad Delp.
RIP Brad Delp. Rest high on that mountain, brother.
Best debut album of all time. Tom Scholtz had to design just about all of the equipment used to create the unique sound of Boston, having a musical and an engineering degree helps. He played most of the instruments himself and the album was recorded in his basement.
Next one from Boston - More than a feeling .. 👍🎸😎
Brad Delp and Tom Scholz were masters of the musical transition and production.
You should react to every song on this album. I suggest you start with "More Than A Feeling."
Absolutely. The entire album is a clinic on some of the best rock ever recorded.
“More than a Feeling” is their signature song. Brad Delp goes to another vocals level in that song. Worth reacting next.
Brad Delp rarely used falsetto to hit those high notes... He had an amazing range and it was ever-endearing...!
2 likes, 1 for for the reaction and 1 for the Tshirt , OH-
Junior high school days....I think half my school went to see them when they toured with this album. I miss the 70’s....
Created in a basement! Yes. Basement music!!! A lot case from basements back in the 60s and 70s.
Foreplay was first thought up by Tom scholz in 1969. He then used it on that 1976 album
You were right... it's called an 'Eargasm' lol.
It wasn't until a couple of days ago I realized that the picture on the cover of their album was guitars upside down. I just thought it was space ships.
Oh snap it is!!!
Most of these tracks off the first Boston album are some of the most famous and popular rock songs ever, so you probably have heard bits of them all kinds of places and ways.
One of those rare albums were EVERY song was a hit. EVERY song got radio airplay. All of them.
Sometimes 2 songs just blend together. Just dig it!
You'd have to been in a coma not to hear this somewhere. Boston, man...
Both of the first album's these guys produced are what I call road trip albums... You just put on the first song when you get in the car and drive all the way through...
Long Time has actually featured regularly in the Canadian television series, Supernatural.
Oh yeah, you got some vocals for sure. MORE BOSTON!!!

Welcome to another rabbit hole that is Boston!! Great reaction.
Just think this album yes I said album came out 42 years ago it would still be dope if it dropped today.
The entire album is fabulous; it was their debut. I loved this album as a kid. React to every song on this album. Gen X, we grew up with the best music, so many talented musicians. You probably have heard More Than A Feeling and not realized who it was.
Enjoyed seeing your pure joy at hearing this true classic.
Foreplay is what it is... foreplay. Don’t go popping too soon there Buckeye!
Boston is obviously amazing...but why isn't anyone talking about their greatest song. It is quite obviously Amanda. I mean really...
Ya know, the song is as epic as it seems sometimes. Boston, was one of the greatest bands, ever.
Peace bro.
Bruce Hornsby and the Range, The Way it is, is another one that was used.
I think this one made it into one of the music video games. Rock Band or Guitar Hero. But I'd think you'd remember if you played it there. Great song!

You're so awesome Doc!!! Rock on!!! 🤘🏼❤🤘🏼❤🤘🏼❤

Welcome to sound of Boston!!! Check out songs....SMOKIN',
PARTY, WE'RE READY, COOL THE ENGINES
Such a great song!!! I love sound of a B 3 Hammond organ!!
Rich, car companies use this song for their special events a lot, mostly just they "it's been a long time" and the instrumental following.
Love the rock reactions, Doc.
But if you like good build ups, transitions and amazing drumming, you gotta check out Rush.
Working Man
Spirit of the Radio
Tom Sawyer
I think you'll really love it.
Subdivisions, Red Barchetta, Trees
It' sort of a two part song. Both are always played with each other. Similar to the Queen songs: We Will Rock You / We are the Champions.
You knew exactly when that change was going to hit at 3:20.
You have GOT to watch the drummer play this
Wait for it
Go Bucks!!
"The high note in the GUITAR"? Listen to the vocalist, he's going HIGHER than guitar 😅
If you wanna check out Brad Delp's (RIP) range, you have to check out "More Than A Feeling" by Boston...he has this bit towards the end that you won't even believe if you thought THIS was high...
