So all that extra grounding people recommend for System 80 games is overkill? That's good to know because it seems like everyone insists on the big common wire to connect every board to the backplane. You're a gentleman and a scholar to share these things with us. Keep up the good work.

This is my first and only pin. Believe it or not I got it free(!) from a guy in Gilbertsville. It is in moderate condition, needed very little work. Biggest problem was the electronics would go all goofy during play. I found it to be a noisy 5V pot on the PS board. I haven't replaced it but working the pot a little usually gets it back working when it goes wacky.
Has an Automated Cigarette Company sticker on the back, another brass one with just a stamped number, the lettering was painted on and has all flaked off.
Why do you replace the diodes with jumpers? On my System 80 this connector is present, but the coin meters are not, and the wires dead end down in the base of the cabinet. Did these lines get re-purposed on other games?
Did you ever had a Gottlieb Krull (1983) pass through? It's a system 80A prototype, 3-level playfield, inspired by the movie. Only 10 were made. No speech and some background noises have deep bass in them. (I played it's emulated counterpart). The speech, sounding robotic, wouldn't really fit. Though it plays a sample of the beast roaring. Nice video though, with background stories told in a fun way. Keep up the good work.
Todd, what is the name of the company that makes that connector for the MPU? I can't quite catch what you say there. I just picked up a Gottlieb Circus with some nasty acid damage.

Great video! What kind of transparent paint do you use to touch up the backglass? Do you ever use Krylon Triple Thick Clear to protect the finished product? Thanks!
Steve uses the same latex paint...it seems to allow paint to shine through fine! Delta brand.
I never would have guessed Latex, rather than Enamel or Acrylic. Thanks for the info.
I've heard you mention burnishing the contacts for the displays on a coupe of your vids... How do you guys burnish the contacts? I've never seen it done?
Kevin Chrysler A Fiberglass eraser is needed to do it correctly. A good stationary store still stocks them. The contact pad is brished on both sides to remove the buildup on it.
Think just about all the videos I've seen so far all the guts are on the back wood. The above it's behind the lights/mirror etc. How many were designed backwards like that?
Its perhaps half and half on the early System 80's...the thin head Gottlieb's are all on the inside door though. Never really thought about it!!

TNT Amusements Inc Wow! It looks so shiny I thought it was clear coated. Gonna have to get some pledge or Endust. I had been using Nouvus 2 but this has opened my eyes!
Todd, Thanks for the great info. I'm working on a Haunted House for a museum in Roanoke, Va. I volunteer there because I feel they are doing a lot to revive interest in pinball. Your sys80 tips have been great. I've done the ground mod. However the game has a new problem I'm sorting out. None of the flippers or pops are working. All fuses are good. I had to replace a couple of flipper coils because they had gotten hot and the plunger would not slide freely. When we fired the game up from there is when we had the issue of no flippers or pops. Ideas?
+Brian Cox There is a relay that turns on the flippers and pop bumper power...but i do not remember where it is under the playfield...but you may have a connector loose on the driver board that turns on that relay.

Dear Sir, Because you know a lot about pinball I have a simple question where could I find a list of pinball machines that the game philosophy is getting replays from completing tasks on the play field instead of beating a high score
That would be of great help, most probably because all pinball machines on earth have been in your hands, I would kindly ask you to write some down here, that you for sure remember from playing and fixing them,

P..S - I did read something about Gottlieb having those type pf machines up until the seventies, but I've done some research and haven't come across any, this seems to me more like a mind challenge for who knows them and not a matter of getting a list that filters the machines by philosophy.
